For several hours they threw back the curtain of the gods, with thunder and brimstone, and u were emotionally and physically spent when leaving their shows. Thank u, PH, for being such an important part of the musical fabric of my Baby Boom gen. Much appreciated.
Had the extreme pleasure of meeting these fine Musicians and driving them around in Detroit every time they played there. 1967 til 1969. Robin Trower days. went to at least 15 of their shows in that period. The music community has lost another one of the truly great performers and songwriters. Goodbye Old Friend. am sure I'll be joining you fairly soon. Day Hello to BJ for me.
Saw them live in 1974. PROCOL HARUM were a most modest band; they were on stage to play - not for lightshow bathing. They were an essence of true quality. They didn't sound like many others - they were originators. Not a hit machine, but creators of very outstanding material. Thank you so much for uploading this! Barrie J. Wilson was in my humble opinion one of the very few really creative drummers - he illustrated PROCOL HARUMs grand "poetic and musical paintings" to another dimension - no less. Rest in peace, boys - you gave me sooo much more than most of them others - you made me rich by owning your recordings!
No twirling sticks, no BS. BJ got down to business. He's a drummer who is underappreciated and underrated. He never needed a giant kit like Neal Peart.
Awesome! Thank you for posting! I saw them twice in the 70s with Robin Trower. One of my 3 top bands that never aged, together with Doors and Beatles. Procol got super lucky getting BJ Wilson, he was targeted by Led Zeppelin but didn't join. Twist of fate, because Procol would have never gone that far with the drummer BJ replaced early in the game. Brooker & Co remain timeless, they are the single most unique band in the history. There is simply no one like them.

While I 16 and still a JR in HS, my parents finally gave the OK to go to my 1st show on 4/21/73. My and my buddies saw Procol Harum @ the Felt Forum, NYC. Due to overwhelming tix demand, there was a late show added the same night and being already my best Saturday night ever, we all decided to go to the late show as well. So my 1st two concerts would be this GREAT band!!
@@Nudiescorner Did you do 1st show or late show. Stupid me, we did both (the 2nd was my 1st scalped tix) & almost missed the bus back to Central NJ. I've seen PH 7 times , with just about every member that was ever in the band, and this concert was one of the best ever. BJ did an outstanding performance on power failure. RIP Gary, BJ, Dave, and Alan. heaven must be rocking out now.
One of my favorite bands from the late ‘60s and early ‘70s. Melodic, dynamic, and powerful. Killer vocals (RIP Gary Brooker) and great playing fom eveybody. This is the first I’ve heard of the guitar player who replaced Robin Trower. Robin’s great, but so was Dave! Great bass playing too, although he’s hardly shown in this clip. And the drumming is just spectacular. What a great band! And it’s great to hear Conquistador again-I hadn’t heard it in years.
Wow! What a performance! Takes me back to the unbelievably fertile period of live rock music from the late 60s to the mid-70s. Countless number of great bands and shows, but Procol Harum was like no other. Small group of friends and I followed them relentlessly and saw the band every time they came to the NY/NJ area. Fillmore East, Schaeffer Music Festival, Felt Forum, Academy of Music, Capitol Theatre…what memories! Gary Brooker, Matthew Fisher, Robin Trower, BJ Wilson, David Knights and those that followed always delivered. Incredible musicianship. Glad to have been among those who truly appreciated their excellence.
Procol Harum is much loved by many including me! I was 11 when first heard them, 1st single stayed 6wks at No 1 in 1967, I got to see them the following year. I wish I’d kept tickets of their gigs I went to but saw them at Mothers, Birmingham, then several times at Birminghams Town Hall and London too. ( RIP Gary, Keith + B.J. ). Robin + Matthew still going. I love this band and all who sailed in her so so much!
Wonderful to hear all of thsi live but especially for me (most) of 'In Held Twas In I'. If Procul didn't invent prog with 'Pale' then they certainly invented it with this suite (1968!) and it's a wonder they're not more celebrated and acknowledged as such. Incredible band.
I went on RUclips tonight just so I could hear all of "In Held Twas I" again. In my youth I played the album all the time. Incredible musicians and Gary's voice took me to another place. That he (and so many others from this group) are gone leaves a hole in my heart and soul.
AMAZING!! What footage. Such a breakthrough, exciting, creative yet underrated band. To see them in their heyday in such an authentic way is truly magical. Gary Brooker one of GOAT! R.I.P.
Like both ,friend ..but to hear this one, just the band ,push their instruments to the limit, makes it special to me.. Copping is on footpedalls on the last part, that Hammond is ready to explode. Orchestra? Who needs it..@@Chazthefurr
Man, Gary had the goods. Greatest band ever. B.J. so defined their sound. In those days, drummers were so integrated into the ensemble sound. Truly percussionists, not merely there to provide a backbeat. Keith Moon, Charlie Watts, Ringo, Carmine Appice, Bonzo, Bruford, Bob Henrit...many more.
1970 and I was 16. Loved Procul Harum, was off to Isle of Wight to see them and was ill. My mate saw them and even now delights in telling me he was at the front and fell asleep when they were on. Never got to see them.

Agree that Barrie J Wilson was a very gifted drummer. He for me later became the centre of PH, the one to watch for me, along with Gary and Keith, they were great backstage too. Glad to see fans looking for autographs. I saw them on my 16th birthday at the Mothers Club in Erdington, Bham U.K. And in Bham and London more than 10 times. Great musicians and band.
@ 4:30 Look at Chris. He is watching Gary. Poor Chris is READY for the next section but it sounds like Gary does not cue it! Alan definitely continues on and it actually sounds like Gary is still continuing the previous section WHILE he starts singing the next section. I'm not criticizing, we're human, mistakes happen. I love PH.
Thanks for posting! I've seen countless performers ( seeing Buddy Guy, John Hiatt and Sonny Landreth together this July), but I have never seen a band quite like Procol Harum! So appreciate B.J. and Gary Brooker. RIP.
Merci !
Sure brings back memories. I was in a refugee camp in Capua, Italy when their song, Whiter shade of Pale became a hit. Also, the jukebox in the cantina always played "American Woman" by Guess Who.
But what dark keys in Chris's release. And they drill a hole in the stomach, I love the sound. And how BJ whisks away at his pots. Overall, a memorable concert, you can see that the band has solidified after the success of the album "Edmonton".

Yes, a unique voice -- but don't underrate Gary Brooker as a keyboard man. One of the best.
Yes there is no underrating Gary that's for sure...
I absolutely love this. Fortunate to having caught PH twice in '72. Love hearing Dave wail on the Grand Hotel stuff. RIP Dave, Barrie, and Alan.
RIP Gary
Sadly, Chris Copping is now the only one in this line-up still with us
@ 4:30 Look at Chris. He is watching Gary. Poor Chris is READY for the next section but it sounds like Gary does not cue it! Alan definitely continues on and it actually sounds like Gary is still continuing the previous section WHILE he starts singing the next section. I'm not criticizing, we're human, mistakes happen. I love PH.
I saw your brother in 76 great musican Dave ball rip bj Wilson .Gary broker now also r i p .yeah one of the greatest band ever❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Magnificent, epic....Procol.
Thanks for posting! I've seen countless performers ( seeing Buddy Guy, John Hiatt and Sonny Landreth together this July), but I have never seen a band quite like Procol Harum! So appreciate B.J. and Gary Brooker. RIP.
Just fantastic. This gig showed Procol at their best. This performance is how I will remember them. TY for posting this incredible concert.
What a band, and the Sound...great

Uau, Apostolos, this is becoming the new best youtube channel of preciosities!.... Loving it, thank you so much! Greetings from Portugal
Dave Ball!!!!!!! What a fab guitarist, and a well-deserved successor to Robbie, imho!
Merci !
A million times, YES! much appreciated for the GOLD. Thank you.
Great concert!!
The high lights of the Procol era. So powerful, so great, many thanks. And BJ, WOW.
Thank you so so much for sharing this treasure. Means so much to be able to see this as well as hear it. Incredible memories.
Thanks for posting...but it's put me in a state of procul harum.
...........sublime.........
Grand Finale... shivers every time I listen to it!
More like tears, mostly of joy.
PROCOL HARUM espectacular 😉🔟!!!!!
What a gem! Thank you!
Sure brings back memories. I was in a refugee camp in Capua, Italy when their song, Whiter shade of Pale became a hit. Also, the jukebox in the cantina always played "American Woman" by Guess Who.
Great to hear them include some tracks from the excellent Shine on Brightly album
Extraordinary Chris Copping then on organ playing
Keith Reid was present too at their Montreal show then i still have his autograph
But what dark keys in Chris's release. And they drill a hole in the stomach, I love the sound. And how BJ whisks away at his pots. Overall, a memorable concert, you can see that the band has solidified after the success of the album "Edmonton".
Thanks for this archive document
