  • In this TouchDesigner tutorial we create time slices of animations and display them in a flexible grid. This enables you to essentially show the entirety of an animation or video in one frame.
Make sure to have Realtime turned off when working on this technique.

Hey Bileam. I can’t believe you’ve just put this out. I was thinking of making something similar-ish. You’ve save me a tonne of work thanks 🎉. Phil

For the dynamic grid size you can set the scale of the rectangle to 1/(Gridsize - 1) (which I feel is really close to the ^-1.1 that you did), and leave the scale of the grid SOP at 1. Although this also doesn't give you consistent margin.
For consistent margin, I think you should use a UV ramp centered on 0 (I don't know what this is called) for instancing instead of the grid SOP, and set the uniform scale of the rectangle to 1/Gridsize.
On both versions you can scale the rectangle again for the padding.
Amazing video as always, thank you!

Could you describe the use case for this?
I understand if you wanted to print out frames of a movie into a poster style this could be useful.
But are there any other use cases?
Many thanks for your tutorials :) love your work

thanks! yes exactly, it's more for posters or cover art etc, mainly just for fun 'cause it looks cool 😌 you could also play around with the texture3D normal settings (active) and this instancing setup for live videos/animations

Amazing🤩! Have you ever considered doing a tutorial where a shape/object morphs into another shape/object frame by frame?

I'm at 13:17 and when I click pulse or hit one on my keyboard I watch the timer increment but it doesn't show the value change in text3d if I have that operator open, only if I click on it after hitting pulse and I can't see any frame change on null_tex. Did you switch back to me.time.frame somewhere?

See if it works one chapter later with the noise sphere, I forgot to connect the Reset you've gotta reset the Texture3D as well when clicking Start

@@elekktronaut Ah I figured it out. @9:48 you were going a bit fast and on the trigger chop I had set Attack peak level to 0 instead of 1.

@@ValidPlacebo ah yea sorry about that, i've changed the annoying default values so often by now that i don't have the patience to go through it slowly anymore 😅🥲
