I have been a carpenter for over 50 years and this is one of the smartest ideas I have seen for a long time! Great job!!!!
I’m impressed that this trick is new even for a seasoned carpenter. Thanks for sharing
I’m long since retired. Over 30 years ago I used a 1 X 4 with spring clamps for the very reason you stated. Never used the little gauges. Pretty sure I wasn’t the first person either. Good idea using the 2 pieces. Eliminating the spring clamps 👏
Much better than those stair gages. Man, I could have used that last week. I just cut 120 risers last week. When you flip the square with the buttons the angle changes because the buttons don't hit at the same point where they were set. ...Total pain in the butt. To make a nice one that'll last, one could use some 3/4" finish plywood. I like this because you could screw it any where to make sure it doesn't slip. Very cool.
Thanks for commenting !
I need one of these and saw one on youtube made of titanium that I assume was around 200$ I only need to build one staircase so this is out of the question. Your solution is so perfect and free. Thanks!
Thanks this is awesome. I was getting started with using stair gauges and saw this. It is so great.
I was taught that before my License. This tool is so awesome and it doesn't cost an arm and leg to make. But because i hardly make stairs, i had to look for this everywhere. Thanks man you took me back to school
I see Kody you have Makita sets (Festool is great but damn i can't afford it) and so do I haha....
I guess great pros like us use similar tools :p
Thanks for sharing that!
Awesome!
Nice!
Yay! This makes sense.
Ok awesome! That makes me happy.
Killer jig I’m gonna build one of those!
Easiest to build but one of the most effective tools I’ve used.
As a real rookie on stairs building (and most everything !) this is a very good idea! Cheers ! My stairs are going to be M&T &peged.
Glad to hear!
Good video!
Thank you! Glad it’s helpful
Super pertinent video! Would love to see it in use. If you have a vid can you upload and/or link? Many thanks, I'll be giving it a go all the same!😎👍👍💣💥

Ive got same stick for 25 years only its a 2x2 oak balluster i ran center of in table saw so ends are still solid and i have one screw in center for tightening square. Call it a hillbilly stick
Love it!
How do I find an ICF contractor? I’m in west Texas and need to build my home
Find a local ICF supplier and ask them who does the installs. Check on Instagram. Or try ICF base, I think they have a bit of a network happening.
Been a long minute since I needed my stair nuts and low and behold they were nowhere to be found in my van. Just ordered some new ones from Bezos and somehow in doing that ended up here. LOL. Great idea thanks so much for sharing. I have to ask did you think this up yourself or did some old boy share it with you?
I think the journeyman who trained me showed me that trick. Wasn’t even an old boy either.
@@uptokode I think I may have seen my grandfather do that.perfect in that you can go to the other side and carry out your lines. Thanks again.
It really is perfect and yet so simple! You’re welcome
Threw stair guages in garbage years ago because of the sticks ability to mark to the end of material
