I was an owner of the ATi card, i had good times with it but sadly it died just after 3 years of purchasing it. Also i'm glad i found this channel, i hope your suscriber numbers rise up quickly, your videos are entertaining to watch educatives and very well made. Keep it up!!
Hi Nexus Tech, this was a fantastic and detailed legacy comparison. Thanks so much for your efforts. I also got a HD 6870 for $25 a few years ago and plan on pairing it with a Xeon E3-1220 in a cheap gaming PC flip. It's crazy how much these older cards can actually do and it'd serve the needs of someone who wants to play through a backlog of older games really well. Cheers.
I had a GTX 460 when Witcher 2 came out. Really loved the card and the game, Bad Company 2 was a game i also enjoyed a lot and it was my introduction to the Battlefield series. I also played it first on the 460. Great times those were.
I had 2 of these exact same 6870s running in crossfire for two years, the performance in the supported titles was awesome, very close to a 7970. The only downside was that this crossfire setup was lacking in VRAM capacity and that's why I actually replaced it with an R9 280X at some point. It was great though and I enjoyed so many games with this setup.
Good video! I had a 6850 and liked it. I think I paid about 150 bucks for it new and at the time it would handle pretty much everything. I did upgrade when Tomb Raider came out though to a 270X.
this reminds me how much I loved my immensely overclocked 570 220mhz on the core stable.... paired with my q6600 @ 3.8Ghz.... those were the cheap gaming days the 460 was the groundwork for taming fermi and I always wanted a msi talon... but like I said above... damn that 570
I don't knw how you do it but you keep posting amazing math-ups I've been wanting to test myself! I have one of those same Sapphire cards, and a GTX460 Superclock edition from Gigabyte, it has a higher clock speed and beefier cooling - if you wanna borrow it and put it to the test against a stock Gigabyte 460 then hit me up!
I really like that you repasted these old cards. Even if it removes a pretty solid scientific stat, the paste on cards of this age is certainly too dry to be properly thermally conductive, and its likely that any owner of a card of this age has replaced the thermal paste anyways.
i remeber in 2010 when i was playing Fallout 3 on my humble 9400 gt on a q6600 striving to get to those 30 fps, and i was dreaming of getting my self a 6870 which i nver got in the end. nevertheless i spent my best gaming years on my 9400 and after 3 years i got my self an r9 290 paired with a 8350FX which i working fine today after all these years while i replaced it now with the a XFX 6800 and an 5800X3D :) how years pass so quickly!!
Back in the day, I had bullt a fx6100, over clocked to 4.5ghz, paired with 2 6870s in crossfire. Welp, it did ok, but the weak support for crossfire, and the poor optimization for those bulldozer chips made it really not worth my while.
@@sysierius I owned both of these cards at the same time. These two were always compared to each other based on price and specs. I eventually chose to keep the 6870 which I still own and ditch the 460. The 460 always scored better in the synthetic benchmarks but very rarely did it outperform the 6870 in actual gameplay. Also to me the visual fidelity of the ATI cards was always a little crisper to me. But I would still own both given the opportunity to get my 460 back and the mate that came as a x-fire package with my 6870. The 470 was not in the conversation at the time due to price, although they may be closer now.
I still have a perfectly good running xfx 6870...i also repasted and was kinda horrified that the vram had no therrmal pads on them....must put it in my old i7 920 rig and give it a go again
I loved my 6870 when i got it back in 2010, friend sold it to me for 100 + xonar dx for it, used ti till 2016.
Had the same exact HD6780 model. I gave it to my friend, he still uses it to play games in 720p!
you are a good person
How kind of you! :)
i also did give one to my friend

Hello mate, thanks for kind words, appreciate it :) So your 6870 only lasted 3 years, that's a shame!
My 6870 died recently, the card lasted around 10 years.

I like these legacy GPU reviews! there's plenty of them and are actually affordable🤣
aww! Thank you!!! :) Be sure to stick around, more coming soon
I had this Sapphire 6870 1gb back in 2011. I bought it just to play BF3 and it ran pretty smooth at high settings 1080p. Really nice
Anyone else early that you have to watch in 360p.
Mm
Hey! Early squad! Thank you :)

Heeey! What is up ? Thanks for sharing! The 6850 was much better value for money back then, not much slower! :)
dang it make me wanna buy just to put it as display xD anyways! nice video! the quality of the video keep going up!
I'm glad to hear that :)
I'm surprised how well Far Cry 3, Alien Isolation and Wolfenstein run on these cards at 1080p.
Impressive.
Same here! Considering their age, great performance :)
I had a 6870 for about a year in 2016-2017
I could play battlefront 2015 at like 50fps so I was happy.
Thanks for sharing mate, what are you on today ?

Hello mate, thanks for sharing! NOICE! Surely, that must have been close to a 580 ? Gotta love that cooler design... :)
Even though the HD its better with just a small portion i will still pick the Nvidia because of the SLI compatibility. Awesome Legacy battle btw 👍👍
Thanks mate :) 460 is a great card, I would pick 6870 still :)

Heh! Thanks - The lack of thermal paste on 6870 was shocking!
Hello bro may i ask which is good gtx 660 or hd 6870?
I have a gtx 460 to collect. I think i got the same model as yours. I need to get the radeon 6870
Very cool comparison. Interesting how Nvidia and AMD push FPS more in different benchmarks. Will you take a look at GTX 590 vs HD 6990?
Hello mate! Yes, they are sat next to me, should be episode 8 :)
@@nexus_tech Great to know :D

I had a 460 for BF3 as my 4850 couldn't run it well enough.
Try a rig with a older cpu the fps may drop
But 6870 was half tier higher card test should go gtx 460 vs HD 6850.

Gtx460 way outsold any amd gpu. Sad reality with a lot of compassions
Well, I think it was not first or last time this happened, unfortunately :(
1st
GTX 4060
Slightly unfair comparison, should have been the gtx 470
So early im watching in the impressive 360p 😎
GTX470 was more than 100 USD more expensive than HD6870, so big NO.
@@StarFury2 the 6870 is a higher tier.......
