Aretha Franklin sang this for the soundtrack "waiting to exhale " Whitney didn't want to sing all the songs on it so she and babyface hand picked her fellow sisters to sing those songs.
Some of you may not know....but Babyface the mastermind behind the Waiting to Exhale soundtrack...intended for the entire soundtrack to be sung by Whitney. However, Whitney wanted it to be multiple celebrated singers coming together. But can you imagine what she would have done had she sung it all by herself being she was still in her prime??? I think it would have sold even more copies than it did and maybe even rivaled The Bodyguard, which is still the best-selling soundtrack of all time.

This whole Poland concert was restrained, subtle, yet full of creative freedom-sorta jazzy R&B, I just love it- it is a rare and interesting showcase of her ability to play with phrasing and timing, without strictly using her vocal power/prowess to overtake a song. I wish I had the whole concert on dvd..

It looks like she is singing in very frigid air, that can't be good for the vocal cords. I believe that it wasn't just drugs that diminished some of her vocal prowess like everyone says. It was repeated stress on the vocal cords, like seen in so many of her amazing performances, where she did so many amazing and powerful things vocally.

(1999) One of the best performances of this song is the one she gave in Chile, 1994 Her tone is so beautifull ... there are lots of singers who just want to reach high notes and sound forced and with horrible tone... But Whitney sang the songs naturally and the notes came naturally too (at her prime) ... Pure pleasure to listen to!

A song is merely words before a singer and musicians interpret it. A good singer should be able to sing any song. The arrangement and phrasing might be different than another singer has done, but so what? 'Different' doesn't mean 'bad' or 'inferior'.
Whitney lost her voice at least after 2004. never before. in the late nineties she made more R&B songS so it was a different style with different intonations but her voice was still there. it would be full to say that she still has a great voice but she did enough in the past to be remembered as one of the greatest SOUL voice ever. hopefully she will get her voice back but most of all i wish her peace and happiness. May love be yor forerunner!
