Ahem... that isn't William Smith's setting of the Responses.... ARCM throws up its hands in horror "Oh NO you-know-who's back!" "Who?" "You know, that funny chap who was always posting silly comments on AOS' recordings before it became part of ARCM (that's us folks) NOW HE'S BACK IN TOWN GROANS..."
The setting of the Responses is the one by Ayleward a perennial favourite but the Smith is my favourite the setting of "And with thy spirit" and the final "Amen" are exquisite!!
Well it's happened at last the Varley Roberts anthem has finally been admitted into my Likes fold! By courtesy of the service as a whole though as you will know, I CAN'T take this one seriously....I think a good dose of Orlando Gibbons is in order!
Seriously though, I must make it clear I have NO PROBLEM with the words it's a wonderful Scriptural text it's the music that I think is a bit (!) weak...
(?) Weak?? Surely you mean ... sentimental :-)
Yes I think that's a better word : - ) : - )
