My amp analogy: Solid state is instant coffee, easy to make, instant results and can taste great.
Valve is real coffee, takes a bit of work to get the right blend and taste, but when its achieved it's awesome, wholesome and keeps you awake all night.

Right. So after fidgeting through google.
The amp's based on a late 50s circuit. It was manufactured in the early 90s. It was made to be simpler to use in order to differ from other valve amps in its price range. It's also one of the best reviewed valve amps in its price range.
Quick side note. It's a trending search term on PMT's website. I'm pretty sure it's because of this video. Well done, Dave.

The Blues Junior and pro have been the most gigged amps in history. Hell of a lot of blues players use them. Miked up correctly are super tools. Great for pedals. I’ve built a blues junior without reverb and Bassman tone section. I love it. Covers Floyd to Bad Co with OCD, and deep blue. Add some fuzz and you go back to Gilmour

Great sound. Great playing. Nothing quite like a guitar plugged straight into a valve amp with it turned up a bit. It sounds good, it feels good. It’s also a total rabbit hole! I got lost in it about 20 years ago and still haven’t found my way out! Still loving every minute! Good luck and enjoy.

Wow I just discovered this vid. I have bought exactly same one somewhere a month ago. It is super simple and sounds insanely deep. DS2 and ibanez Wah are also happy with it. Really good for the effects. First week I spent playing simple chords over and over and listening to the sound as it was another universe transfer for me (my first real amp). Extremely satisfied and even more after seeing you enjoying the same. !! It made me play 2 times more than I used to.

Fender small amps are really useful for any style of music ,playing in pubs or small venues .I use a 65 princeton reissue for most gigs jazz or rock and never had a problem with volume or tone and the ability to take pedals is a bonus. I was born in Grimsby in 1963 what is like now ? I bet it has changed A lot since then - does The wheatsheaf still exist and Ribey Square? Any way welcome to the world of small Fender combos , the future is bright!

Great tone! I am not an amp "snob" and have gigged successfully with both tube and solid state amps. At my age now I prefer the lighter weight of solid state amps but those Fender Pro Jr's are great amps. I have the 5 watt Fender Champion 600 reissue from years back with two tubes (valves). All it has are "High" and "Low" inputs and one volume knob. You can also hook it up to an external cabinet too. It sounds great for apartment use.

Don’t know if you realize how fantastic that sound is coming out on that little amp. It literally stopped me as I let the channels play while I work. So different than those other amps that you use. To me.. this is IT!. Seriously, maybe the way it records? I don’t know, but whatever it is that is making that special.. is special and you have an amazing sound going on there. Edit: I should emphasize that particular sound was the first 4 or 5 minutes of the video. Save that setup.. whatever it is.

Whats not to like, mid-strong tube breakup at reasonable volumes, small footprint, light weight, comparatively cheap retubing, good with pedals, world class sound, etc.? Even if you have bigger, louder amps, a small Fender-style valve amp is what most players are looking for, regardless whether they realize it or not! The pro junior is kin to a champ 5f1 mixed with a 5e3 deluxe because of its raw cranked breakup. It has a 15 watt, push pull power section using a pair of el84's instead of 6v6's so the pro junior is its own thing but still with a nod to these amps. To be honest, this pro jr. is a great modern amp but a 5e3 sorted to control bass flub sounds considerably better than the pro jr., in my opinion.

These are great amp, I had a Fender Blues Deville Tweed and the tweed was a lite color not the darker orange looking one. I took it apart and bought a can of lacquer and put one coat on it and it looked fantastic, so i thought great i will put another coat on it and wow it was dark just like you have there. It was a brand new amp that looked like it was 100 years old. It looked like an xtream reliced guitar that nobody would believe that it could been really that beat up in real life.

    Hi Dave,
Thanks for another nice video! Like your honest and cheerful approach in your videos.
As far as I know - you don't bias EL84's.
    They are like preamp tubes.
At least I have never seen an EL84 amp with biasing abilities.
If it runs that hot I would have taken the backplate away and see what happens...

Watching this reminds me that I can buy all the gear in the world, but practice and building skill is so much more important. I wish I could just buy skill.

Dave, if you're concerned about the heat, add a box fan on a bracket inside the cabinet.
I've done this with many of my blackface amps. Select one for low noise.

Godman it i love your vids. I just go through a gambit of different emotions. I was feeling crap today 4 in the arvo. I opened up a bottle of red sat on the couch and just basked in the comfort i get from your jibber jabber and your sweet playing. You made me feel so much better hahaha or maybe it was just the red wine mmm. I got a blues junior in my lounge so i relate to this one. I love my BJ LOL

Dave your soul is playing. Golly Bill. What is it. Is your soul melding with the guitar? Is the guitar living off your soul? Do you have enough soul to keep you both alive? Hell I don't know, but I like vacuum tubes. I have some 100 years old. Amazingly , they still work. They are alive when the filament heats the cathode and the electrons start buzzing around in there. It's magic.

Hi, I've always used a solid state amp. The last one was a Vox valvetronics (with a valve in preamp I guess). Anyway, now I bought a economic valve amp. The difference betwen the two is awesome. The valve amp is really creamy, the cleans are sweet, the dirty tone is aggressive but not nasals. I'm really satisfied.
