  • WATCH: Seattle Kraken General Manager Ron Francis speaks to the media after head coach Dave Hakstol was fired on Monday. Francis is expected to address the media about “the changes to the Kraken coaching staff” beginning at 2:30 p.m.
Hakstol went 107-112-27 in his three seasons in charge of the Kraken.
Hakstol was a finalist for the Jack Adams Award as coach of the year last season as Seattle finished with 100 points and reached the Western Conference semifinals in its second year.
The Kraken failed to match expectations this season and spent most of the year trying to climb back into playoff contention after a terrible start, and failed to build on the success of that playoff run. Seattle finished tied for fifth in the Pacific Division after going 34-35-13 with 81 points, and was officially eliminated from playoff contention with two weeks left in the regular season.

I will say this. Dave was the right coach at the beginning for this Franchise. He took an expansion franchise and brought it from the depths of the first year to an outstanding playoff run last season. This season was different. No success after a remarkable season last year. But I do hope he does get a new Coaching opportunity in the NHL soon. He is definitely great with young players.
As for potential hires, as an Oilers fan, I would want to see Woody behind the bench next season. There's also Gallant, Quenneville, Everson, and McLellan. Whichever the direction of the front office, I can't wait to see the Krak next season on the ice. Cheers from Edmonton!

It was a bit knee-jerk decision to fire Dave Hakstol, especially after last season. Dave deserved better than this, and definitely deserved at least another year with the kraken.

It was a bad hire in the first place.
