Which of these features are you most excited about? I'll go first - the proxy recording is pretty awesome!
It's going to be awesome. I'm only a hobbyist but would love to record in the highest quality possible for little projects but my computer was struggling. I've dabbled with proxy files but it was taking more time, so I tended to shoot at a lower quality. I'm also quite interested in the AF improvements.
All in all, a fantastic update.
Part of the reason I switched from Sony was the lack of decent firmware updates for current cameras, a total lack of respect for people who spend their hard earned cash on the products.
Is it not available for 6K recording? Or even for FHD recordings and have them as backups?
The AF changes are exciting but I'll have to play with proxy recording. My laptop is a potato so having proxies from the camera would make editing a lot smoother.
Do you know if you can shoot proxies while recording over HDMI?
The autofocus and pre burst, as I love the S5ii for bird photography!
This is why Lumix deserves support.
I’m glad that LUMIX is recognizing the S5ii/X does have a place in photography with these new subject AF modes. The car one especially is huge.
Lumix cameras have been hybrid cameras always. I used my gh5 for all of my photo work even tough everyone called it a video camera.
Totally agree! :) it’s great to see both cameras get the same features
Reassurance that I have made a great choice of buying Lumix S5IIX. Way to go, Panasonic.
Yes, my X brother 🙌
That’s awesome to hear.. I recently switched from Sony to Lumix and I am so happy with the new Lumix, it seems as I am enjoying shooting more with Lumix than I did with Sony.
I’m glad you’re enjoying the switch :) I also used Sony before Lumix and I must say, I only really started to love what I do when I started using Lumix :)
I also switched from Sony to Lumix.
Same, I had LUMIX G7>G9, then Sony a7c>a7IV then back to LUMIX S5ii
Sony’s have great features on paper, but I never felt “inspired” to create. With LUMIX I just feel like creating/capturing something all the time, either photos or video. I recently picked up an GX85, and that is literally on me most of the day
Let’s goooo! Finally get car autofocus in the S5iiX! It’s game on now! Thanks Lumix!!
And Josh. Appreciate the video as always brother!
Imagine if they brought out car badge or car headlight AF 🤣
I love the AF as is. To see that they improved it is incredible. What a helluva brand.
Just made the switch from Sony to LUMIX. Really excited to support them.😊
One of us! One of us!
Beast of a camera for the price and keeps improving. You don't know how much time proxies recording is gonna save me ❤
Yaaay! Good updates! Was already happy with both the AF and stabilisation, wouldn't have thought they were gonna improve these areas
Looking forward to downloading this :) Thanks for the update.
never thought the cloud update would be the thing I was most impressed by.
they still have some autofocus work to do but it’s getting better!
It’s great if you’re already a user of Frame.io , but to be honest I think the workflow of this option would make it beneficial to have a frame.io subscription and then charge the client directly for quick rushes etc 👍🏼
@@JoshCameron I’m not a frame IO user - if you have adobe creative cloud you got 200gb of storage in frame io by default my guy.
Which autofocus work do you mean?
Your AF Settings guide for the S5II has been a great help. Maybe you can film an update that covers the new features from this update? Other channels seem to be leaning into “the update is great/awful!” clickbait, rather than actually going in depth on how and when to use the new features. Thanks!
Brilliant news 👏🏻 Reminds me of Fuji's previous Kaisen philosophy. Great that Lumix are recognising that people will appreciate and support them for such an approach
So happy to see this. Lumix is such a great brand
and thats why I have LS5IIx - can't wait till22nd
Great news, thanks Panasonic!
Go go lumix!! Im so glad to own the s5 ii & s5 ii x
These cameras are honestly the best ✌🏻
Well explained, great firmware update, thanks Josh. I recon that this update is a good indicator of where Lumix cameras are going and is part and parcel of bringing parity across the Lumix camera range aiming squarely at the pro user too. So pleased that I invested in the Lumix system all of those years ago and their FF, L mount system in the early days. Big updates like this often signal new goodies are on the horizon 😉.
As someone with a lot of MFT kit who recently got an S5IIx, this is great to see, especially the AF modes from the G9II.
Great update, thanks.
Thanks for the roundup
They’re preparing for the S5R I can feel it!
is that a thing? I'm curious 👀
Absolutely AMAZING updates. These are making it harder yet again to not upgrade from my S1 😅
S5/ii/x are so wonderful for video (understatement) that we forget how jaw-dropping it ALSO is for photography.
All really useful features, its being released in the middle of my Thailand trip so I'll update after that. 😎👌
Thats so awesome. I love it.
Thanks for the video! The entire Lumix stream was laggy, so I got the news from you instead lol
The next best source for Lumix info that isn't Lumix ;)
Tiiight, definitely will be upgrading.
Gotta love Lumix.
Great improvement for us stills photographers! Looking forward to trying it out with burst on birds!
Can't wait to test the Animal Eye AF properly next time I go on safari :)
When I was deciding on which mirrorless system to go to, I considered Sony but I'm glad that I went with the Lumix s5ii. And these new features are just going to make it even more of a powerhouse!
Sorta looking forward to this 😄
I really wish these other subject detections would also come to the S5. This has been needed for a while
Great video! What I'd love to see added would be the Monochrome profile and 1080p PDAF in high frame rates for the s5ii and Real Time LUT for the S5. Can't ask for everything I guess but loving what Panasonic is doing with these updates!
Amazing video, thanks!
So exciting. Very curious to see how much better AF is
Love this upgrade Josh - are you going to make a video on how to set up the S5MKII for photography ?
今天上午刚刚升级了固件,感觉还不错,松下值得支持,来自S52X松下忠实用户😂
Solid improvements, hopefully G9II can receive similar proxy and C2C updates.
WOW just the proxies alone is an epic upgrade
Huge!
I have 3 x s5iix, nearly perfect camera. Go Lumix🙌
Just added the Firmware. Lumix really has done things the right way. Reading more and more how people are switching to the camera and feel this new update will make even more people switch. My thinking is if Lumix had added what the S5ii/X an G9ii have to the GH6 or the S5 the cameras that now has them wouldn't be talked about as much or people would not be as exited. The amazing thing is that all these new features come in a camera body that is less then 3k.
Awesome!
Thanks for the tip-off
This is great! I'm a wildlife photographer and filmmaker and I've been very upset because my s5iix doesn't have AF animal recognition, I get a lot of out of focus photos! I have missed many good opportunities with endangered animals!
I'm looking forward to trying the new update focused on the eyes and body, right now it's a horrible focus, the unique Animals + Humans feature is an odyssey to get the photos in focus 😔
Great by LUMIX
Wow proxy is great! Especially for 6k. Nice!
A nice update, but would have loved the G9ii photo styles added, the 4 x audio tracks to have an option to toggle off and lastly improvements to the low frame rate issues with exposure simulation. I see requests for this on the forums over and over, and it seems to get largely ignored
And that’s one the main reasons I switched to LUMIX from Sony. Respect for their customers with updates and upgrades. That proxy recording is the thing we didn’t know we needed 😇
Question: do these new AF modes work for video too, or photo only?
I was thinking of getting a Raveneye for my DJI RS3 to use Activetrack with my S5IIX to have B-cam footage for cornering on my Street Triple (although DJI and Lumix partnered to allow you to use that function, you needed to set AF to human/animal in the current firmware so it wasn't going to work well with a motorcycle), but this seems to make that entirely moot. Now I can set the AF to motorcycle and that partnership between the two companies is going to be perfect for my use case.
I always had problems with the Human/animal detection autofocus. Cuz when you have both in frame it kinda glitches out. But now knowing that it gets fixed soon gets me very exited and hoping that the whole autofocus gets improved a bit aswell.
Wow 👏👏👏👏👏
Great video Josh! These upgrades are very useful. On another note, since you're the Lumix expert, which Polarisers and ND filters do you recommend for your cameras? Asking mostly for the S5ii, thanks
This is awesome Josh!! I literally just updated my s5iix last night to be on the latest firmware and after watching this I realised another update coming,
That’s awesome looks like Panasonic is continuously making upgrades to this camera 😃 the proxy files is very handy especially for outsourcing the edits
Yeah exactly, super cool right? I can see the proxy function being extremely beneficial for most small teams!
This update indicates that Panasonic had already equipped the S5ii/X with some advanced hardware to receive some "Real" improvements in the future such as the proxy option as it needs hardware support from the camera to make it happen not only some software add-ons or tweaks ... Well done Panasonic I can't wait for this update on my S5iix.
as an a7siii shooter seeing stuff like this is making me wish sony would push more updates and not ruin there cameras with unfinished updates lol esp since all the issues we have been having.
Great stuff Josh! keep up the great work!
Join the dark side 😎
Cool, all good extras. I hope it fixes the most basic issue of all though - the slow start up! Utterly bizarre..
If i look at all the features i really think the slow startup does matter the least. I switch it on before it reaches foto position and when it is in place it most of the time is all ready.
I noticed that as well was wondering if it was only mine or a setting that needed to be changed
Hi Josh, thanks for sharing. This update is nuts. The only thing I miss is the Leica monochrome picture profile that was introduced with the G9II. Is it included and maybe not mentioned?
Unfortunately it’s not included, but hopefully that will come with time!
Great video mate! Forever going to be shoving my camera in my cats face now !
😂😂😂
I am really loving your channel, I found it trying to look for which system to upgrade to (Sony was in the run at some point) but I am fully commited to Lumix now, they just seem like they listen to the costumer more than any other brand. I do have a question for you (or anybody experienced with Lumix) I am looking for reliable AF and decent photo capabilities, this camera will be used 100% for social media content (YT & IG) Up until now I have been using a Nikon system (DSLR) because Im a wedding photographer, but the upgrade won''t affect my client work, just my social media... Would the Lumix 5ii be plenty? I rather save money to spend in glass but I think as far as AF goes the mark II is pretty good.
Proxies are a great addition and really happy to see it. I'm shooting open gate most of the time though and access to proxies probably won't make me prefer to choose a lower resolution (unless it's for a different frame rate or codec). What is the likelihood of adding this feature to the larger resolutions do we think? Great to see a feature rich update regardless!
I’m not sure whether that’s a processing limitation or not, but that would be a nice extra bonus for this feature to receive somewhere down the line! I’m sure this is just a sign of what’s to come generally for all Lumix cameras! :)
Nice overview, Josh. I think it’s very ironic that LUMIX released this really substantive firmware update on the heels of Sony’s very underwhelming firmware updates last week.
It’s all part of the game right? Each brand has to show they have the edge somehow, and I think Lumix is really bringing the competition to the table :)
I don’t need to sell my Sony, I don’t need to sell my Sony, I don’t need to sell my Sony 🙈🙉
😂🤣🤣🤣
You don‘t need to sell your Sony! You don‘t … 🎉 I did …
Something tempting u. Come one. I sold mine already
IME proxy files are usually considerably bigger than original files (Cineform, DNx, ProRes, etc vs h264/5), since proxy codecs are usually lower-compression (and intra- rather than inter-frame, for easier real time NLE processing). How are these proxies smaller, are they just recorded with a significantly lower bitrate than the originals or something?
I hope panasonic update the s5 too is my Bcam and still rock
It’s crazy the cloud integration to frame is even possible. Now if they also support Blackmagic cloud, we will be really cooking
Wow👌👌
I saw on other channel that they improve face and eye detection and nów its not lose tracking when you put objects, or your hand and partialy cover your face.
Nice video, thank you. Do you know if Panasonic solved the issue with mc21 and ef sigma lens (this strange delay while shooting)?
This sort of great sort of 😂😊
Nice, autofocus features are alway very welcome.
Especially with animals.
Do you think we can expect 60fps without a crop on 4k, or it's hardware limitions ?
Thank you your work!
would love to know aswell
I think the full frame sensor cannot be read at such a high speed and that’s why it needs to be cropped
@@daniellrodriguezs2308 probably you are right. But other cameras have this capability, maybe with some algorithms optimisation it would be possible
does this update improves af in 1080p 50 fps and 100 fps mode???? currently it uses contrast detection af and its very poor in 1080p mode otherthan 24 fps in full frame field of view.
Thanks for your video. Sorry if my question is dumb but do we still need to purchase the paid firmware upgrade in order to shoot raw on the sII? Because I couldn't find where I can purchase it from, and wondered how much it would be!
Is the setting of the LUT for the Proxy depending on the LUT of the main footage or could I basically shoot my main footage in VLOG and the Proxys with a LUT?? (kind of like JPG and RAW for photo)
lumix, I love you!!!
So happy that I decided to leave sony and canon for pana
Being able to proxy record AND shoot prores via ssd is GAME CHANGER
With the new proxy function does this use the existing file size or create a new one? In other words does it eat in to your card space to create the proxies and thus losing recording time on your originals?
Great updates, but I wish they would improve the HDMI lag.
biggest thing why I returned the camera.... without the hdmi lag, it would be THE BEST CAMERA!
since you know the camera so well, maybe you are able to answer this question : How can i set the camera that it DOES NOT LOCK THE EXPOSURE AUTOMATICALLY ( AEL LOCK ) when half pressing the shutter button ????
Lumix hardware and software has always been top tier, and their support and consistent updates top tier. Really unfortunate they let Sony get the lead because of their autofocus choices in the past. I was one of those who transitioned from the GH4/5 to a Sony because of it. Such a shame, they could have been much bigger in the creative space.
The proxy and the Frame io integration is crazy, thanks for sharing 🙏🏾🙏🏾
Was just gonna say that !!!
much more compact than the Ninja + Atomos connect !
I'm here for the motorcycle detect AF 😂
I bought into the S5's too early. I got the S5 OG. It would be nice if some of these features made it to that
Yeah they havent updated the S5 since 2022. Talk about being left high and dry
Does it include the Leica Monochrome profile?
Hi, You have, Crane 2. Question: can You power up S5, S5II, S5IIX via dummy battery with Crane 2 power output? Thanx!:)
Is it now possible with the new firmware to use the phase detect autofocus in FHD?
I wonder if the E-stabilization addressed the sort of side to side floating of the image while shooting handheld. I only notice it when super wide but, I bet that's it. Feel like the GH4 - GH5 - GH6 never did it, smaller sensor maybe is the reason..
That how it works on G9II which have this function. EIS on high setting remove wooble, warpy image.
@@ryszardzokowski812 I've never had it on HIGH, ever. And the "warping" image isn't what I'm saying.. I'm talking about the smooth, floating, almost like being on a boat at sea, horizon moving slowly, side to side..
What is the actual crop factor of the e-stabilization high setting?
i really wanted to know how good is lumix S52's dual is with ois lens like 24-105 compare to only in body is with kit lens like 20-60 or sigma lens 28-70. but i can not find test like this in whole internet, seems like lumix S52 is still a bit unfamiliar for the most
Is there a possibility for this update also to come to the S1 or the S1R specifically?
Anyone have a problem with IBIS wobble on their S5ii/x? Seen it on various clips online and am wondering if anyone has noticed it too or had a problem with it?
Do you know if it can also record theose proxys while recording with external recorder liek the BM Video Assist? That woulkd be awesome to just have a backup if something fails with the external recording. Thats why I love Lumix, they always support there Cameras and add features, even when the cameras already have a lot of them :D People still run to Sony but when they try to update cameras they just make it worse :D No but siriously Panasonic really cares and that's just awesome.
Great video. But the specs page now show much less options for MOV formats than earlier. A bit concerned :
I was probably in my custom list , not the main list :)
#teamlumix
Great news ! Makes me glad I bought a Lumix instead of a Sony
You're part of the cool club - Sony is too mainstream, and being indie is in fashion now anyways ;)
Would be cool to test battery life with the proxies on, since it processes the video twice maybe will we have a substantial drop in battery life? It would be useful to confirm that.
That’s actually a really good point, I never thought of that!
Taking about being left high and dry what about the OG S5? Any firmware update planned for it?
Hi I have a question, s5II or maybe s5IIX record in 4k 50 fps in full frame or apsc mode?
Hello Josh❤, Is there a way to authenticate lumix camera(because I am buying a new S5ii off Facebook Marketplace), is there such thing as fake cameras? Anything like serial number that I can check. Please share thoughts 🙏🏻
Not bad
