Great revue. So much to reap from it. From one of the greats. His ring and rope off P3 DL lecture along w/ Tabary's version is on my R&D list for a routine. Won't being buying this one though. My shelves are full. BTW have you ever done a review of Show Doctor by Mcbride & Haas? As a theatre actor & teacher, imho it's got a lot to learn from.... and not in another "tricks to do way" ;). Thanks for all of your work!!
I'm currently reading Adam Gopnik's book, The Real Work which has extensive discussion of how magicians develop mystery of their craft. If you haven't read it, you might want to check it out. It isn't *just* about magic and magicians, it's about how we develop mastery in general, but as the title suggests, there's a major focus on magic and magicians to illustrate that process.
@@EruditeMagic -- That should have read 'mastery' of their craft. I think it's probably only a chapter on magic, but it's a very good chapter. His son has an interest in magic so he spends a lot of time with Jamy Ian Swiss who -- as you'd expect -- has a lot to say on the process of being a magician and how one acquires expertise. The book takes its title from magic subculture, the notion that so-and-so has 'the real work' on a particular effect. I think the whole book is a worthwhile read, but whether there's enough magic content to interest this channel, I'm not at all sure.
I got this a few weeks ago, but it hasn't connected with me yet. It's probably because I've picked up a few other books recently and just need to spend more time with it. I ordered a cheap coin purse and plan to learn When You're Behind, You're Ahead. I'm definitely a card guy, so it will be a bit of a challenge.
Very funny start to this episode. It made me start thinking, when is a book officially out of print? When the printer prints the last book? When they ship to the publisher? When the very last book is sold? If it’s the last, it should be sold out, not out of print, right? 😊
@@EruditeMagic No,I don’t think it’s for me.Price wise, inflation these days is through the roof, so I can understand the price, but maybe for that price you want a book to have two or three hundred pages and be more modern. But for his fans it’s probably a must have if they haven’t got it.
I think the first time I saw him, it was footage of him performing for kids on a Disney cruise or something. His interactions with the children were so engaging that they completely overshadowed the magic (which was good, but nothing mind-blowing) but he had such an engaging personality and made the children so comfortable and so involved with the process that it seemed impossible that you could ever get bored of watching him. The same thing has been true every time I've seen him interviewed. It doesn't matter what he's talking about or what he has to say. He's just so charismatic and interesting and empathetic you could listen to him talk for hours.

Love the dramatic opening.

Thanks for the feedback, George! I don't own the McBride book, but I may have to look into it

Interesting - never heard of it! 🤷🏻

Best of luck! As I understand it, that's one of the few routines from this book that Williamson has never re-released.
I just picked this up! So good to see a review on it. Thanks as always!
That's great, Dusty - enjoy!
I saw hi at magic camp and he was amazing i will definitely be buying this soon
That's great!!
Excellent review! I will add it to my collection when I have more room in the dog house 😆
😄👍
Nice review 😊😊
Many thanks, Robert!

Good question! I don't know the answer to that
David Williamson is the GOAT of entertaining magic.
David, is that you?... 😉 JK! He is one of the best 😄
David should do a new book, 35/30 years wiser!
Agreed, that would be great!
😂”Too skinny!”Dr.Kildare!😂Great work Jeff.
Thanks, Kalvin! Do you already have this book?

Glad you could make an educated decision!
Unreal just got reprinted I thought you were gonna do a video on it
That's likely coming
were you performing street magic?
Make that in the resale market from $75 to $125 😂
🤣👍 #askmehowiknow
According to inflation calculators $40 in 1989 is over $100 in today’s money so by my calculation this book is very under priced. 😉
There you go! I often do those calculations for periods much older than this, but did not for this episode. Good catch!
His manic style distracts you from his magic
I disagree. I absolutely loved his manic style when I first saw it on the World's Greatest Magic 🤷🏻

There's no doubt he's a great storyteller, and comedy magic may not be as strong as serious pieces, but it depends on what you're after
