Thank you Pablo. This is the best instruction I've found concerning the solera /molde. You have saved us hours of expensive trial and error.
So many "tutorials" on the internet, and in print, get lost in the minutiae of how to do basic woodworking, and in so doing, never seem to fully explain the concept and critical design factors of the solera in their entirety.
You just put the whole thing in a perfectly understandable package.

Pablo, thank you for the great video! Your channel contains actually the best bunch of information on using luthier molds I've ever found. I'm a beginner in guitar making and a decision about types, sizes, angles and other features of solera was very difficult. Now I have answers on almost all my questions.

Even for me a guitarist this is a very interesting and enjoyable video to watch. My flamenco guitar that you made I think is farely normal but I have a kind of memory of seeing flamenco guitars of yours some years ago where the back was very tapered as it meets the neck; or put another way the sides were significantly less deep higher than the sound hole towards the heel. Anyway thanks for this video.

I wish I had seen this Before I built my first instrument. I ended up building something quite like the solid mould but much less refined. My guitar came out very nice (for a first try) but as with everything, I know I could do better now. However because of my struggles, I do at least understand how and why the moulds you demonstrate work so well.
I would recommend to anyone to watch all of your videos before they start. Priceless information.

I build my first guitar without the assistance of any mold, work ok, but was difficult to keep symmetry to the bouts of the guitar, now I'm building my second guitar and this video's are gold! Thank you very much for the time and the information contained in your videos, priceless!

Pablo, do you ever build other types of acoustic guitars such as the Martin body styles? Or just classical styles? I am a beginner and I plan my first build to be a Martin OM.
Andy Sparks, I specialize in classical and flamenco guitars, perhaps one day I will have a go at building a steel string but at the moment it is not my area.

Interesting that the neck angle is forward for classical guitars. As an electric guitar builder, I am used to angling the neck back!

Hello Pablo, another excellent and very informative video. Thank you. Please can you tell me at what point, exactly, on the solera/mould, does the angle of the neck have to start? Presumably, the neck section of the crucifix frame, on which the solera sits, will need to be planed/machined to reflect the angle? Regards Rick
The slope start at the point where the 12th fret would be, right at the point where the neck meets the body of the guitar.
I cut the slope from the front of the solera, not on the frame that supports it.
Dear Mr Requena, thank you for your excellent videos. I am self-learning to build guitars. I have a question regarding the depth of the sides of the moulds. The tools I have now only allow me to make and finish the sides of depth around 70mm. If I want to build a classical guitar with sides 100mm and over, is it a problem because the sides of the mould are too low? Thanks.
No problem, 70mm is fine.

I`m curious, is the dome on the solera domed like a circle, or is it domed straight from the lower bout to the neck?
The upper bout is flat and the dome is located mainly on the lower bout.

Pablo I'm really interested in building a classical guitar for myself. I've read Classical Guitar Construction by Irving Sloane and Guitar Making, Tradition and Technology by William Cumpiano and Jonathan Natelson but I really like your approach to building a classical guitar. I'm wondering if I could obtain a set of plans on the method you use to construca a classical guitar. Thanks for your videos and help.

Thanks Pablo, I'm about to try building a Solera mould. For a flamenco guitar mould, what do you think will be optimal dome radius/depth, and consequently neck angle or relief (ramp in the solera) in order to achieve a nice low action. I'm sure it also depends on bridge height. I currently own a Felipe Conde flamenco guitar and the action is pretty high and I can't further lower the action at the saddle, too bad for an expensive flamenco guitar, it feels mole classical with its current action, want to avoid this. Thanks for openly sharing all your knowledge in RUclips !
Hi Fabian, I use a 25 feet radius for the dome on the soundboard, and for the neck angle I set a 1.5 mm drop on the part of the mould that supports the neck, I think all of this is explained in the video.
Thanks again Pablo ! I was curious how it differs between a flamenco and a classical guitar. Flamencos have the strings at the bridge closer to the soundboard.
@@FabianRomano1 the mould is exactly the same for both classical and flamenco guitars, the different set up is achieved once the guitar is assembled.
