      Michele, we carved the two mugs together, but the big ones were done over a couple of weeks. I think my fingers would fall off if I had tried that. Sorry to give the wrong impression. It takes a long time to carve, but it's not a difficult skill to learn. I hope you try it!! :)

    Why do first do wash over all the carving as you cover it up with underglaze? Also is the wash just watered down underglaze. What color?

      Most of the time the washes are magnesium or iron etc. Not underglazes. It stays in the crevices and allows the color to come through the underglaze or glaze to show the texture better. The glazes don’t cover it up.
