I just ordered this and ironically your video has shown me it should be perfect. I have a mid-rise lift, and usually have my car about 3' off the ground when I work on it. For your purpose Harbor Freight does have lower profile transmission jacks, that aren't all that expensive...but more than $42.00 though.
I don’t think it was really good to used in a floor jack or lowered cars. On larger cars and trucks, it’d be a better fit. I did use it for my tranny drop more of a platform to hold til I could get other jacks underneath to lower the trans.
@@TunerwithKids I need a differential housing cover cradle to lower the center section out of the Ford 9". About 80lbs of ring gear etc. Hard to do laying underneath the car, lol. Maybe in my younger day perhaps. Thanks for the reply and Cheers from Michigan.
I have the same model but I didn't need to do a slip fitting for the base of the adapter. Just took the flat round adapter out and the trans adapter for the jack no problem
7:50 I completely agree with you and I have done the clutch on my Honda Element two times without a hoist and in order to even get the transmission under the car, I have to roll it into position on my creeper. I might then be able to use the height of the rig you made on an ordinary trolley jack to raise the transmission back up to mount to the motor but I'm not so sure that the 18 in of full height would be enough for that part of the procedure. Great concept but there are some technical difficulties. Maybe add a large-diameter thread rod under the adapter so you can then get another 6-8 in of lift? Anyway, what I do is use one of those cross-braces and with a FWD car, you only need one of the screw-drives provided with the kit. I use the other screw drive to winch the transmission into position. Works great but you have to "reset" the screw drive a couple of times.
Yea this ended up being a good tranny jackstand. I used it a few times to drop IS300 tranny. I just got a MaxJax 2-post lift, so maybe this will become more useful with a lift.
Glad to see the issues raised by this type of attachment. In other videos removing a trans without a lift ruclips.net/video/dHGMFkwi2jQ/видео.html they use this kind of jack. Go to 25:12 in that video and you'll see something more purpose built for low-access. You have made me wonder if I should just do a free website for my garage and let them do my clutch + oil seal change. Seriously. It's better for them and for me. Cheers, Binh.
I do some brake bleeding in my GS350 Fsport brake upgrades video. Toward the end, not really a How To, just footage of me doing it with my daughters in the car pumping the pedals.
Already did it, twice! Only thing this was good for was to hold the transmission while I was disconnecting the wires and bolts. Else it was pretty useless for floor jack work.
@@TunerwithKids yeah I agree. I actually loved your video. I got one and ran into every single problem you did. Even the adapter not fitting on the jack. I'm gonna modify one. There's absolutely no reason someone should be under a car 3 foot in the air with jack stands
@@TunerwithKids I angle grinded the entire bottom off until it was a flat peice of metal. Drilled a hole in the middle for the screw plug and problem solved. 3" low profile transmission jack. Not 8"

Nice job. Yeah I think I might get one of those for my 66 C20 clutch job. Prob will put the truck on jack stands to get more clearance off the ground.
I had wondered how this would work. It looks like it is better to just spend the $129 on a harbor freight transmission jack.
Very cool, I think the key to all this is using Two Jacks, one to get car up to make room for jack with the adapter on it.

these are designed for basic hydraulic jacks to slip on. These newer "racing" aluminum jacks dont play well.
@TunerwithKids oh ok then jack is pretty basic for a husky. I didn't realize yours was craftsman. Great craftsmanship for the adapter btw👍🏾
You can use the 5T jack stands, which gives you at least 20 inches, that should work. In my case my jack is a 1/2 inch hole so my nuts are screwed.
They make one for a floor jack that makes it lower than the transmission jack one. It works alot better with the one for the floor jack
worked fine for me with 2tons walmart jack

ironically i was looking into buying one to finish my is300 build and i see one in the back lmao
You should be make a video How to Bleed your Brakes

Did you ever make the jack adapter to work with the jack?
Naw, I have a lift now so don't use this anymore.
Buddy full time job with this IS.. get quick jack lift
Need a 4-post lift.
You have the chain and hook on the same side.. that wont be much use!
Fast forwards right through the assembly part.......
I hate to say it but you need to concentrate on getting the car higher like 36" higher just to get the transmission out from under the car.
Already did it, twice! Only thing this was good for was to hold the transmission while I was disconnecting the wires and bolts. Else it was pretty useless for floor jack work.
They’re called wing nuts not butterfly nuts 😂
get bigger jack stands, jack up your car higher, clearance issue resolved,
With my new MaxJax lift, this will actually be useful now.
yeah those suck no wonder I've been bench pressing transmissions into trucks for 30 years, they are just way too tal
On a high truck or with a lift, this cradle would do fine but not doing it gangster on your back with jack stands.
@@TunerwithKids I feel you brother I feel you

That’s the word😂😂
Performance tool makes way better adapter than this one.. I used it and PT one is really sturdier than this one you are using.
Too much work!
What the hell man! Why would you slam through the assembly? That’s all anyone wants to see in your video! The fast forward deal sucks
Thought it would be the boring part. Also it’s not a hard to assemble item.
You fast forward past every bit off the assembly process and went straight to rigging up non factory parts, useless video
I mean if you can’t assemble this thing without a video guide, maybe it’s not a tool for you.
