DEEP PENETRATION - Diving the ill fated Salem Express - Safaga Red Sea 2022

- This is a video of our group penetrating deep into the wreck of the ill fated Salem Express.
We entered from the stern doors of the car deck and penetrated all the way to the bow and then turned back at the truck. Inside the second compartment, there are 2 cars, a Nissan and a Toyota. After the penetration of the car deck, we moved around the wreck and entered the restaurant and the bridge. Amongst the wreckage and cargo, you will see how life has thrived where it once ended.
The Salem Express was a passenger ship and car ferry that sank in the Red Sea. It is notable due to the heavy loss of life which occurred when she sank shortly after striking a reef at around 11:13pm on Saturday, December 14, 1991.
She operated between the ports of Safaga in Egypt and Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. She sank after colliding with the Hyndman reef on the Egyptian coast. Many bodies were recovered after the sinking, but eventually, a halt was called due to the danger involved.

Descended onto this wreck 17 years ago. Saw a child’s suitcase and a shoe. Turned to my buddy, we looked at each other and both decided that this dive wasn’t for us.
I saw that same show in 2019, was on my first solo dive, I felt the same as you
nah that'd freak me tf out. about to start an open water course but idk if I'll ever have the balls for diving inside a wreck where people drowned, nightmare fuel
Think most wrecks have some sort of morbid history in one way or another, that’s part of the interest of diving them. Good look on the start of your scuba journey and I hope buoyancy control comes as naturally as breathing does to you 😉
I’d dive on the wreck, but not in it.

Just did the same dive, aside from in reverse. It's quite intimidating and eerie going down that corridor with. single tank set up. The noise from the air escaping sounded like screams, I wasn't the only one to hear it. RIP to the poor souls. Good video.

I find all these shipwrecks interesting and eerie. I was told this had a haunting presence. But what fascinates me is that lugged. Still intake after 32 years.
First time I dived it solo, very eerie. Second time was better with a few people and a lot more time to explore

Relatively in good condition for being down for nearly 32 years; looks like it’s been stripped over that time period. Bittersweet though since so many people died in it.
