FINALLY after watching many videos I'm glad someone says your trap won't be 100% solid in frozen ground and can still catch coyotes thanks for an honest video about winter trapping
Excellent video, well done. I use waxed dirt for the trap bed and then peat moss on top. The freeze-thaw-freeze-thaw cycle of today's wintertime makes any trapping but cable restraints a constant maintenance headache.
Long time subscriber : Have a question concerning freeze and thaw. I'm currently using wax dirt for the first time this year. I'm going solar and letting the fur pay for the supplies. I have been using salt for freezing in the trap bed and the springs. I do keep check of each trap to make sure that my equipment is in top notch after I use salt. Do I need to continue to use salt for freeze proofing or does the wax dirt eliminate the need to ? I am self taught , I use your channel for guidance. Thanks so much for the information you have provided through the years. I'm in Blue Ridge Mountains NC.
Good things as always brother! I like to drag a sled in sets like these to carry items and cover tracks. Hay sets shine in snow too, have caught many fox, bobcat and yotes in them! Keep up the great work
I've been just started to watch your videos for the last couple weeks and like them alot I'm a big hunter but never really got into trapping and I learned alot sence i started watching keep em coming I subscribed
You said it, frozen ground trappin is a pain in the ass lol, we have the same kinda weather in Nebraska, no way a yote will ignore that set up. Wanted to ask have you used the cookie cutter in these conditions?
Great video but like you said...Normally by mid november I may have over a foot of snow on the ground or more...Not alot of snow this past november but alot of rain...Top notch video brother...
+NSTRAPPERHUNTER the loamier the soil the more wax it takes because of absorption. sand will not absorb much wax at all, but it looks really out of place in the clay type soil I trap in. I personally use about 80% clay 20% sand and it seems to work well for me.
Well done, the only thing I would do different, is to use a chunk of charred wood for my backing instead of snow, which when it melts leaves the set without backing, and at this time of year they like to pee on anything that sticks out.
Great sets, I wish I could say I only get a foot of snow at a time, got 2 feet in a matter of a couple hours the other day...lol. I'm sure I will be seeing a coyote soon in them sets.
Best video on RUclips! keep up the good work Stu. you got the heart of a teacher and just know that you are teaching the next generation of trappers.
+Wade Wittman thanks
How do you kept deer from getting caught
andrew rivera pnce you get good you can make a set and catch only your target animal it takes many years of practice and trial and error

Once again, a great video. Keep up the good work Brother 👍👍

Хорошее видео!Спасибо!
Good looking sets for sure. I'm making a few of those portable pockets to use next season.
+Huntnfishnuts thanks good luck with them
Is it possible to catch em on cornfields ? I trap on two properties that have coyote/fox on them just not sure how to pic set location

put a big thumbs up !
Snow is better. The ground freezes way harder when it's uncovered.
excellent tutorial.
Thank you, and keep up the good work.
Thanks
Good video! How do you pull earth anchor
How do you remove the anchors from frozen ground?
You said it, frozen ground trappin is a pain in the ass lol, we have the same kinda weather in Nebraska, no way a yote will ignore that set up.
Wanted to ask have you used the cookie cutter in these conditions?
+STREETERBOYZOUTDOORS semi frozen ground is the max. ounce the ground freezes the cookie cutter is no good
You ever thought of trappers anti freeze. It’s a jar of flakes that keeps traps from freezing
would you use this set when you get more then 6" of snow?? say 2'??
+Adam Craig never had 2' of snow to try. i would think that would be alot of snow to move to make a set
will the snow get in the way of the trap when it goes off?
TankDaBoss17 Gaming nope
HELL YEAH BROTHER
I like your theory. I you had an extra camera you could see what they do for sure.
Great video but like you said...Normally by mid november I may have over a foot of snow on the ground or more...Not alot of snow this past november but alot of rain...Top notch video brother...
+Heith Gagnon thanks
aren't you afraid?
the sheep can be trapped?
Do you have a precaution for this?
thanks
Nice job Stu and I think I'm going to make some waxed dirt for next fall. What type of dirt do you find is better. Later buddy and all the best.

Thanks, got to give it a try.
I tried real dog crap this year for my scent attracent and caught 4 so far. Just like your house dog gotta smell that new dog
question what state ?
Can i just use rebar stakes for coyotes?
Yes but double stake it
have you ever tried power snares... they a lot faster or even senneker snares on the coyote or are you not able to use where you are?
Snares are not legal here
To keep the trap from rockin, Did a hole under the frame so it is suspended by its perimiter with no support under frame work.
Great job. Same set works in deeper snow like I get here.
+Stewart Frerotte thanks
"one hell of a Trapper"!
A portable pocket?
what brand is that hammer/hatchet I would like to get one?
+David Bartch estwing
No luck with the traps. but got 3 in the crosshairs this winter
So .. did it catch? Where's the money shot?
Have you tried power bedding with nails
What’s the best way to dispatch a yote without using a gun?
You could prolly use a bat
A good air rifle will do it. Has to be a good quality one though and they aren't cheap, probably cheaper to get a little 22 revolver in reality.
Can you use like a trap bed cookie cutter for your traps
you said not a tree for a long, long ways but yet when you show the area there are trees right behind you....lmao!!!
What type of gloves do you wear an do you use buckwheat hulls in the winter?
Nice video
+West TN Outdoors thanks
You will make someone a good wife someday !
that blizzard was horabul.
Can anyone tell the the hammer he is using?
Gavin M estwing
Can anyone tell the sunglasses he has?
Well done, the only thing I would do different, is to use a chunk of charred wood for my backing instead of snow, which when it melts leaves the set without backing, and at this time of year they like to pee on anything that sticks out.
+John Holmes yeah after the snow melts a solid backing can be added. while I have snow I prefer the visual of the urine
What's up
Great sets, I wish I could say I only get a foot of snow at a time, got 2 feet in a matter of a couple hours the other day...lol. I'm sure I will be seeing a coyote soon in them sets.
+Bradley Coles thanks, bradley
great video as usual. thanks for sharing.
+Adam Sinclair thanks
I do all my trapping in winter , Saskatchewan Canada
What size duke foothold would you use for Fox, Coyote, and Bob cat?
Good looking sets Stu!
+Todd Wittenmyer thanks
What part of IL are you from? I am from Salem area, there is a lot of great deer everywhere in IL..Now I trap and shoot game in Nevada.
Thanks for the video, best one I've seen for in the snow. Do you feel these would catch fox as well?
Be a responsible trapper by dispatching the critter asap. It's been suffering for hours.
👍🤘👊
