I know I'm a few weeks late but I just had to share my gratitude. Of all the amazing things that Georgie and the team at SL have done, I have to say I am so proud to see this fundraising event that took place. I remember when keys for life first came on the show and being really moved at what the organisation is doing. I understand 1st hand what it's like to have family members in prison. When I was 20 BOTH my parents were put in prison due to a business error they made as they were joint CEOs. This left me and my older sister of 2 years to become surrogate parents to my younger brother and sister who were 10 and 13 at the time. We both were working as freelancers in media at the time, trying to get ourselves established - but had to put that on hold and try to figure out how to fend for ourselves. Not once did we get help or support though the authorities knew they had essentially left 4 kids at home without parents. It took 3 years to dismiss my Mums case and 5 years for my Dads and then they dropped all charges! But it took us years and years to recover as a family. There is so much hidden shame and fear when this happens to you. And even now, years later at 43, even talking about this period is difficult as it was so deeply scarring. So, you see, for me , everytime I see what you are doing to help Keys, I cry tears of joy, as it is quite personal. Black men struggle to recover, to find good employment after prison. So the way the men especially are embraced by SL and given a chance to turn their lives around is amazing and I just wanted YOU all to know - it will make a huge difference not just for those who have come out of prison but for their wider family unit, too. So thank you, thank you. Well done Team SL and special hugs and gratitude again to Georgie for all she is doing! 🙏🏿🥰🤗
