Vongola looked like he was being measured for a new suit 🤣 If I'd started to build that bed at the end of August I would finish around April ! Fantastic job Marina xx
Bears are a fact of life where I live in British Columbia. During berry season (July-September) you see them frequently, and I couldn't count the number of times I've personally had them on the trail when I've been out hiking or running. A week ago during a rainstorm I heard a crack from out back of my house, and found a ceramic water dish I leave out during the hot months for the sake of birds & small animals split in two - with the furry backside of a bear just wandering around the corner to my neighbors. Turns out it was a family of bears, ones I'd seen a bit earlier crossing the road but they were back again wandering the back of the homes in mid-afternoon a day later. No harm done. Conflicts typically happen when it is a mother and there are cubs - if you're between them she will do whatever is necessary to protect them. Beyond that aggressive encounters are rare, but bears do get put down when they become habituated to food sources left out by people. Much is done to educate the people about taking sensible precautions regarding leaving out things that attract them, but unfortunately there's always people who ignore such advice and ultimately the bears pay the price.

Wonderful harvest. I purchased a soymilk maker, electric...now it's so cheap to make soymilk. 1/4 cup soy beans well washed no soaking needed, and 1 quart of fresh cold water, the milk is ready in 35 minutes!
Lovely bed and bowl holder for Vongola 🤩 And I would love to see the process for making your own tofu, milk and yogurt. Those things are expensive in store but I've never considered making my own!
A fantastic job on the beautiful bed and bowls for Vongole! And it is exciting to see endangered species returning to their natural habitat. But equally it’s understandable that people are nervous too. My brother lives in California and regularly camps and hikes in bear country. It’s all about respect, education and knowing what to do.
Exactly! Hope municipalities will start working on programs where they teach how to act with a bear otherwise accidents are just bound to happen. A part of me thinks that they are not doing that so that accidents happen and they have an excuse to remove/kill the bears?

OMG what a gorgeous dog bed 🙌🙌🙌 We live in the Kootenays ( British Columbia Canada) so bears are a regular occurrence, and living amongst them is Very doable, just do a bit of housework and it should all work out .
We live in a culture that isolates many of us from the cruel realities of nature. That makes your struggle with finding the most ethical balance between the needs of wildlife and your own needs difficult. I remember a story depicting an aboriginal person giving thanks to the deer he was about to kill to feed his family. I thought it was a good illustration of the dilemma.
Those sweet potatoes 😂 I didn't know about their leaves! 😮 It's lovely that you've had a nice crop. So good that you noticed that Vongola needs a bed with a cushion to support his neck without his nose on the floor. I've noticed this too. All dogs need it and no manufactured beds provide it.
Nice to see you back Marina. I do hope you find a local market for your jewellery/craft wares - it would save on postage! must try growing the sweet potatoes for leaves too. Thanks for putting out a vid! I always enjoy them and learn from you even though Im 78 yr. old.🦌💌👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hi Maria. I live in Western North Carolina and encounter bears all too often on hikes, it's kind of scary. No attacks that I've heard of over the past few years, though - knock wood. We got hit here pretty badly by hurricane Helene. My area fared much better than others, very sad for many. Make sure you have plenty of provisions up there in the mountains just in case you get some uncharacteristic weather. That sweet potato, OMG so funny!!!
Good idea! There are small solar fence setups designed for campers to protect their campsites in predator country, something like that would be ideal to protect beehives.
What a brilliant dog bed, so comfortable. I totally agree with your views on the the bears and wolves. Your videos are so enjoyable. Love and best withes from Ellan Vannin/Isle of Man.
You are right! We need to learn to cohabitate with wild life as we did so many years ago. On the other hand, we also hunted animals for food and clothing. We did not hunt for sport.
There's just something about a hound dog. They are so laid back and cool. That floppy face and droopy eyes just make you want to hug them. What a lucky boy. The bed looks great. If you do end up making a bigger one, he's going to be in heaven. A nice comfy spot in every room. That corn is beautiful, BTW. I hope you get lots of seed for next year. Love your videos. Much love from the States.❤🤍💙💙💙
Thanks for the video. More please if you can. Great job on Vongola's bed/sofa. Good to see you happy, healthy, fit, lean and tanned. Be very careful of the bear.
Making a bit of noise usually alerts the bear of your presence, and since most bears are shy, they will avoid you. It’s moments of surprise and/or fear, or if there are cubs around that a bear will feel the need to defend itself. Otherwise, you’re fine. That is a lovely bed!
Love the poop emoji sweet potato! And the dog bed is beautiful 😍 I agree, the animals were here first and humans second. The only thing about sheep specifically is we need them for wool for clothing and that does not hurt them, we've actually bred them so they suffer if we do not shear them. They unfortunately require very large pastures that it would take years to build fencing for, but yes hiring a night shift and extra cattle dogs is a great idea as wolves will know better than to want to fight extra teeth every time. Now cows on the other hand.. 😂 I don't think are quite as necessary as a food source. Would love to see your tofu press and cooking process!! We are here for all your projects, these videos give us such lovely escapism.
Thank you Zarina! I haven't quite made my mind up about sheep wool. I think I would be ok with keeping a few but I don't think making a full income from it it's ok (in my mind anyway) cause there are always going to be people that care about money more than they care about the animals. But in any case I was thinking about night stables for the animals (that's the word I was looking for 😂) I know it's a huge cost but that would surely solve the issue?
Your puppy dog is so loved. That is a beautiful bed. Maybe you can make a trundle or foot stool for his legs😅. Here in the U S. farmers have donkeys or llamas in with their sheep to protect them from wolves. No one wants to get kicked by either of those two.
I've just started listening to a podcast called Tooth & Claw. It's about animal attacks but also about why it might have happened, animal behaviour and human behaviour around animals. It's weirdly informative and entertaining!
Marina, you look like the summer has been good to you. You look so healthy! 😊 Here in Canada we have bears around all the time, and I often remind people that WE are the ones who need to learn to live around them, not the other way around. We should all be better educated when it comes to the seasonal times for bears, by not putting them at risk of being relocated without their young or worse, killed. Love your new creations for Vongola.❤
Always interesting and inspiring. Did not know that about Sweet Potato greens. Thanks!! Would love food making recipes please. Including what you do with your beets. I have too many this year and really can't think of what to do with them. Suggestions please.
What a good video! 🥰 I haven't see you around in a while and I was missing your videos a lot. I love to see both of you living a peaceful life, is very inspiring! I can't agree more on your take about bears, wolves and humans. If they are coming back because the forest is healthier than before and they have more space to live in, then we need to respect that and learn how to live together without conflicts (as much as possible). We all have the right to live in this beauitful world. And, btw, I would love to see you make tofu! I also don't eat meat and I love tofu a lot, so it's gonna be really interesting to see the homemade process. Saludos desde España :) ❤
Hi Marina it's so lovely to get a video from you. OMG you are a total wizz at making things. Vongola is a lucky boy, hes so sweet. Your veg garden has really provided you with amazing veg. I didnt know about the sweet potato leaves, would be great if shops would sell them. Ive never made tofu, praps you could do a wee lesson in another video.
I have heard having a dog will help keep a bear away. He will go where there is no dog. Lovely video.
I had a close encounter with two wolves few months ago..I managed to film them too and it was pretty awesome :)
Woooaaah! What an experience!!
that iswhere we get clothes from!!!
Great choice of material! It's beautiful! 😊❤
Love to see a video about making tofu, milk, and so on.
@WildSheGoes I agree, it's a difficult conversation but people should be talking about it. Ah yes the stables! Perfect, I think so too.
Amazing job on the woodwork! You are a treasure and I’m sure vongola appreciate you so much!!!!!
Great skills. Yes please to tofu making and yoghurt and soya milk etc
I agree! Would love to see how it's done.
Your puppy dog is so loved. That is a beautiful bed. Maybe you can make a trundle or foot stool for his legs😅. Here in the U S. farmers have donkeys or llamas in with their sheep to protect them from wolves. No one wants to get kicked by either of those two.
My sweet donkey was death to any coyote foolish enough to enter our pasture!
Wow, l never even thought of bears being where you live! Ps. I think the little doggy day bed needs a footstool 😄🐕
I think he does too 😂
I've just started listening to a podcast called Tooth & Claw. It's about animal attacks but also about why it might have happened, animal behaviour and human behaviour around animals. It's weirdly informative and entertaining!
Fascinating.
Marina, you look like the summer has been good to you. You look so healthy! 😊
Here in Canada we have bears around all the time, and I often remind people that WE are the ones who need to learn to live around them, not the other way around.
Thank you for this lovely comment! I am planning to make a video only on soy products (milk, tofu, yogurt, cheese) so stay tuned!
So interesting what you were saying about the wildlife, bears etc. Knowing how good you are with creatures, l can see you making "beds for bears" lol 😊 See you next time Marina........Alioban 🐕❤😊
