Great question! According to David Martucci: “The two missing branches likely refer to the two major territories that were once a part of Maine: New Hampshire, separated from Maine in 1629; and Northern Madawaska, yielded to Canada as a result of the Webster-Ashburton Treaty of 1842.”

Really they should be anchored within a bolder graphic background design, maybe such as 2 broad stripes, the horizontal midpoint line defining the ratio of the two elements. . There’s a reason why countries adopt bold colours for flags and not buff, it’s very hard to reproduce accurately and it’s a recessive colour, your flag will disappear in a line up. This actually ruined it for me, the original flag with the important distinctive roots and pruned branches with a proper looking tree is how it aught to be. “The original in its modern version” is not the original.
If the flag has any significance at all, changing it is wrong. Flag design specifics always just come down to options. So we might as well just picked a new one every year if you’re gonna change it. At some point it stops representing the state and starts representing change in general
Both the OG 1909 flag and Adam Lemire's flag look great, but the simplified pine tree one is an absolute travesty! It gives off Liberia county flags vibes...
That's completely subjective. By that definition, the stars and stripes is a terrible flag. No child is drawing all fifty stars, or even all thirteen stripes (and in the right color order).

No mention of the Revolutionary War roots of the flag or John Locke’s “An Appeal To Heaven”. Seems you left some things out. I’m not from Maine so I have no skin in this but I like it better. The tree itself seems over simplified but it definitely stands out.
@PeruvianPotato it was also a Massachusetts thing but Maine was at one time a part Massachusetts. Plus it's goddamn hard to draw and sew
@scriptiekoreajapanm5263 They Drew and Sewed it 100 years ago but you can't do it now? Skill issue
If the flag has any significance at all, changing it is wrong. Flag design specifics always just come down to options. So we might as well just picked a new one every year if you’re gonna change it. At some point it stops representing the state and starts representing change in general
Put a chickadee on it or no deal, humans! Yes, I can vote in your "Maine." It is a good place to keep a low profile.
Both the OG 1909 flag and Adam Lemire's flag look great, but the simplified pine tree one is an absolute travesty! It gives off Liberia county flags vibes...
I wish my state, Florida, would change their flag.
The new one is simple, just like it’s large city residents
Question 5 was defeated, but as stated, I'm sure the Pine Tree Flag isn't going away.
The original is super nice!
Flags should be simple - the blue one is too complex. I like the new 5:05 design a lot.
Rule of thumb, if a kid can draw it, it's a good design.
That's completely subjective. By that definition, the stars and stripes is a terrible flag. No child is drawing all fifty stars, or even all thirteen stripes (and in the right color order).
A kid can draw a smiley face flag, does that mean it would make a good state flag?
I drew a lot of disembodied butts as a kid. Good flag design?
@@vrubinst as long as accept it, yes you can. If the Russians made flags showing a bear splitting an atom, you can make a butt flag.
Unless it’s a Cybertruck
So Good
I visited Bangor and i only saw the pine tree flag.
Question 1 is so much more important to get PAC money out of politics.
Tl;dr: it was that CGP Grey video
We could of picked before the old one and the new one. REMINDER: the flag were voting on isnt the same one the guy was wearing or explained in the video. Its an ugly simplified version.
One of my neighbors displays a large version of the pine tree flag on her front porch. Looks real nice, even here in Sacramento, the capital of California.
Usually states look for a woke reason to change the flag. Our orbiting planet governor pritzger in Illinois certainly is.
Yet the current state flag of Maine has a pine tree and a Star on it already, why not just change the back ground color instead
The older flag is still better
That pine tree on the caps is horrendous.
Yes!
Maine entered the Union in 1820, so for 81 years, Maine didn't have an official flag?
YOU CANT JUST COPY OUR SC FLAG BUT CHANGE THE TYPE OF TREE AND TYPE OF NIGHT SKY ILLUMINARY AND THINK WE WONT NOTICE!
I’m surprised. No red banner or hammer and sickle? Although, I guess it’s got a tree so it’s Green which is the main religion in the East.
You're not too bright, are you?😂
The New California flag should be the Bear mauling hippies
It is a disgrace of Maine voting to forget the initial settlers and the original Native Americans. It just Maine going so left they want out of the Grand Union of Great States and Commonwealths of America just like the other two states.
Too many blue flags as it is, I wanna see more original designs.
Sorry, can't get past the vocal fry to watch this video.
2x speed is your friend.
As An oregoniAn i like the blue flag best however id like to see maine go back to the original design! As u said everyone went blue so go back to your own roots proudly!
Is that the Tree of Liberty?
The host on here looks a lot like my baby sister who is now 63 years old.
Did all the “professional fact checkers” verify the guy who designed the original flag had a “non offensive “ history because my god had he shot a native on his homestead he would be classified as a “Indian killer” and maybe a “racist” and OMG we can’t have a flag made my someone of that caliber…………durrrrr
the culture war is rotting your brain
Cool flag YES! ❤
The simple answer.....''Follow the money.'' That's who is running this campaign.
“Mainers??”
I always thought they referred to themselves as “Mainiacs”
No mention of the Revolutionary War roots of the flag or John Locke’s “An Appeal To Heaven”. Seems you left some things out. I’m not from Maine so I have no skin in this but I like it better. The tree itself seems over simplified but it definitely stands out.
Isn't that more of a Massachusetts thing than a Maine one?
@PeruvianPotato it was also a Massachusetts thing but Maine was at one time a part Massachusetts. Regiments recruited from the area that is Maine flew the flag during the Revolution and I think it's also popular at least at one time throughout New England. I'm pretty sure some units in the Maine National Guard still use it. Either way the resemblance is undeniable. Your not wrong though
An appeal to heaven.
I think we need to change the US flag. After all, it was in place when slavery was allowed. I find those memories offensive.
