I've read some of the recent reviews. It takes courage to leave the rat race behind to lead peripatetic lifestyle. You present an entertaining and informative channel and are clearly one of the best. Your old man would be proud of you.
If a sailor has anything, it is a great acceptance of life TODAY! As people, we know nothing of tomorrow. Embrace all the good in TODAY, regret NOTHING of yesterday, and press on into the vast possibilities of tomorrow! You are a good and decent man. Any father would be proud to call you his son. Forget any personal disappointment you surely have related to dear old Dad, as a father of 2 grown boys, I can ASSURE you I let it ALL go many years ago.🙏💪❤️
Sorry💜, hold your memories tight and sail on. I left Australia for Mexico to sail back home across the Pacific, my mother was 90yrs when I told her of my plans, she encouraged me to go, and did not want me to come back for her funeral if she passed. I had a strong feeling that I would not see her again. I did not attend her funeral, I sailed on, grieving at times while sailing across oceans and visiting remote islands, I also gently held my memories of her, and reflected on her guidance and the values she instilled in me.
Keeping your Dad in my prayers. What you are doing means alot to us here on land. SHowing us what bold, pragmatic risk taking yeilds. Very much appreciate what you do and your sharing it with the rest of us. Your Dad must be proud.
So sorry to hear about your dad Kevin. As others have said, he must have been so proud of you. It couldn’t have been an easy episode to share. My heart goes out to you and your family. 💕
Hi Kevin, I am watching your videos since you made the Atlantic loop 2 years ago, I am also a solo sailor and learning from you. This is the first comment I male, to express my being close to you for your dad. Be strong and be well, you are a source of inspiration for all us solo sailors. Maurizio
My condolences to you and your family. Sorry for your loss. Even though I do not know you or your family. I know through all your doings, travels, and accomplishments your dad must have been a great and very proud man. You are an inspiration sir. Keeping living a good life as your dad would want you to carry on.
this video brings me sorrow , but also one of the most cherished memories of my father…I had bought a very neglected vagabond 42 that my aging dad had considered to be one of the worst decisions of my life until he saw the completed refit…he was aboard numerous times with my family for some very nice weekends…one day out of the blue he drove to my house and told me that he had been listening to a voice recorded book in his car. he explained that it was about a highly experienced father who set out to design and build a yacht with his inexperienced son, and sail around the world..they did just that..after returning, during an interview, he was asked of all of the great sailors who have done this, who does he admire the most…the man replied without hesitation, “my son”… i was wondering why he drove to my house to tell me about this story …my dad, although he was a very loving man, was not one to easily hand out praise to me… he said “ this is how i feel about you”…it was very difficult not to choke up, because those words meant so much to me, and still carry great significance in my life… i thought that it would have been so easy to have never heard him say this, even though i knew deep down that he admired things i had accomplished… just in case you had a dad who may not have had the chance to tell you this, i can say with great confidence that I am certain he felt very proud and admired his son.
I’m so sorry for your sad news Kevin. Prayers to You and your family. I’m kinda without words right now but, it takes a strong man to share your personal life with us. Fair Winds to you and your father. Much Love and Hugs!
Heavy hearts and thoughts, Kevin. I lost my dad when I was 16 and I think about the time we shared pretty much everyday at some point. It's been 51 years since his passing and yes in time you heal. Thanks for sharing the personal reflections, points in time like this what ties us all together. Jeff and Julie s/v OoLaLa Westsail32 hull#81
My condolences to you, Kevin. There really are no words, but it's clear to me that your father had a very strong influence on you as you seem to be a history buff, and also clearly received the gift of a love for sailing, so he surely lives on in you. Something I'm certain he recognized and of which he must've been right proud. Fair winds....
I am sorry for your trouble. If there is anything to say at least your dad lived in his own house so long and didn't suffer to much indignity before he died. I remember thinking what lovelly straight toes you have which is a testement to the love and care you had growing up. Yours in sympathy.
I did not need the explanation; the message was written on your face. Like you I was blessed with a good father who taught me to sail well; I miss him but he’s always present I’m my mind so I still try to make him proud. Fair winds and good holding Kevin, Will
Condolences to you and your family Kevin. Your dad is likely quite proud of you and your accomplishment in staying a free person. From what you have shared you lived the best of both worlds and succeeded in corporate life and the free life. I wish only the best for you in whatever path you choose in the future.
All my best to you and your family. My hope is that your connection to the ebb and flow of a life at sea gives you an extra measure of wisdom and comfort on this difficult passage.
So sorry to hear about your dad, Kevin. Thanks for your honesty in this video and all previous. I have followed you for several years now and I thought it was the proper time to come out of the shadows, to offer my condolences and thank you for the inspiration! I am a RUclips sailer who accaisionally sails out of Santa Barbara with hopes to sail my own boat out of North Calolina some day, while it is still feasible for me. Fair Winds!
So sorry to hear about your dad. Been down this path myself twice after losing both parents and it’s unfortunately a fact of life we must all face when we still have elderly parents. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your sister. Not a Patreon member so I’m sure he’s passed into what will come next for all of us has happened. You’re memories of your life with him are now your most valuable possessions. Hold them close. Take care and fair winds.
Well this is fun- sorta... as RA bangs to windward into a choppy sea state. Kevin your definition of fun is vastly different than mine is. Sorry to hear about your Dad. Receiving news like this at sea- and not being able to be with him is tough on you. We humans only get one life to live- and when we're gone we leave behind those cherished memories of our time we've spent together. This is the one time- I wished RA had a motor, to power you to the nearest harbor with an airport- so you could fly home to be with him. Hang tough partner.
So sorry to hear about your father. Hang in there brother. We all are pulling for you. I know this happened a while back as the videos lag behind real time. Best wishes 👍🏼
Grand Mananer to Mainer: most sincere condolences. Many years ago, rxd word via radio, while on transit frm Hfx to St. George’s, that MIL had passed. It is particularly tough when you are at sea and it is effectively impossible to return and be with family. From what you have published, it seems he was a man of the sea and would have understood. Now, 4 mos past, hope things are OK with you and yours.
Fair winds and following seas Kevin! So sorry to hear about your father. I know these videos are very delayed and just want to say I’m sending the best vibes to you and your family. Thank you for sharing these moments with your viewers I don’t know how you kept your composure.
Sorry to hear about your dad, even though this was taken Dec 27th ish....sharing it now, my sympathies and understanding when you just can't be with a family member because of circumstances. John
That foreboding sense is real. It's that which we know without knowing how we can know it. As you knew something was wrong, he knew all was right on RA. He stood his watch until you got to the Bahamas likely recalling at the end happy times when were planted the seeds of a life well lived.
Agree, something was really at me, more than just the discomfort of passaging. Then I open up my Iridium GO mail and get the message from my sister that dad is in critical condition. Dad taught me to sail, so I guess it was fitting that I was at sea then.
Our greatest accomplishment as parents is seeing our kids grow up to be decent human beings. Your dad is surely proud of you. Take care.
Thanks. Fair winds.
Kevin, so sorry to hear about your dad.
Considering all your achievements your dad will leave us as a very proud man. Your a good man Kevin!
I'm sorry about your dad 😔. Your Chanel is my number one favorite!!
There is no greater joy in my life than watching my son’s dreams come true. I bet your dad has felt that way too, Kevin. Peace.

We are so sorry to hear about your Dad. Jeannette broke down n tears when she heard, saying he would want you to carry on.
