They don't need depth at forward at all. Now healthier, they can afford 1-2 top 6 injuries at a time, that's without Landy back, who may be a middle 6 guy in a couple months. The avs forwards getting healthy made their bottom 6 elite. But they had like 3-4 of them in the top 6 at times earlier. If Landy can get back they can afford 2-3 forward injuries at a time, that's a lot of depth, and the guys falling off the roster now have some experience too. They need depth at Defense, every single depth peice picked up has disappointed heavily so far, fairly consistently. If no one steps up, and a couple of them are old slow bruisers suited the playoffs, but if they don't come around the avs have like 5 defensemen, you want 7 at least.
I remember the cup run, the 2nd line was insane, top 6, interchangeable parts. They need time healthy but could have that again with Middlestad at 2C, and 7,8,9 top 6 contenders. Kadri played so well, bit there is actually more top 6 depth, and if they can all gel the rest of the season, 👌.
First off, neither Avs nor Sabres are my teams and I have no reason to care about the actual goal. My take - no intent or penalty/interference on Wedgewood injury. People get pushed around in the crease every game and it's very rare to see it result in serious injury. But the play should have been blown dead. Leg injuries are no joke, knee injuries like ACL/MCL tears are even worse, and to those saying Wedgewood wasn't in danger - contact can make those injuries much worse. There's no time for a ref to assess such an injury so they should err on the side of keeping players safe. Rules may say possession etc, but refs blow plays dead all the time for players on the ice not getting up, even when it's way behind the play. I know this is just opinion, but those stoppages happen all the time and should have here. As far as the "oh, so you want goalies to be able to fake injuries to stop goals" some are arguing online, get real. Watch the video of the actual incident (which is up on at least some mainstream sports channels). At time of injury the puck was behind the net, no one within ten feet of it and it was headed to the corner. Several seconds of Wedgewood writhing in pain with a ref looking right at him before a goal on a wraparound that would have been saved like 99% of the time by an NHL goalie. This wasn't a goalie suddenly clutching his leg with a shot being loaded or players screening/jamming away at the puck in the crease. Penalties exist for delaying the game with a dive, and there's video review to account for refs having to make a quick decision. This clear injury during a non-event period of play has no relation to faking to stop a goal.
I just thought it's deeply unsporting to see a goalie is quite clearly down hurt and just carry on, says a lot about the Sabers current state that they'll take whatever they can get. I'm a Bolts fan but really like this Avs side and was so happy to see them dig in and get the dub. Hoping you guys can go deep this year, as my Bolts look capable of occasionally looking like a contender but then they have some really worrying performances that I'm just glad the best teams haven't been able to take advantage of ATM. @@hermankermit-warm1121 I agree it was a bad call. I don't blame the players though, they are trained to play until the whistle blows. The fans saying this is how injuries should play out and comparing Wedgewood's injury to faking bug me.
@ColinGrym yeah, I think that's a really poor excuse though, players are people, they can think for themselves, no team would want a goal scored against them like that. What happened to being sporting in sport? I get the culture is slightly different but I'm from UK and used to watch an insane amount of what u guys call soccer and it's an unwritten rule even at the highest level of the game that if the players see a player is legit injured they will stop the play for treatment for the affected player, it literally has no bearing who's in possession of the ball, what the score is, or what the occasion, it's as I said an almost unwritten rule, it seems even more bizarre to me given just how physical hockey is and on this instance the Sabers continue the play waaaaaaaaay beyond a point you might think the Avs tender is pulling a fake injury. Like I said I get it might be a culture difference but I found it pretty revolting that a set of highly paid professionals can be so callous towards another pro. I agreed with the Avs coach when he said if they score immediately as it happens that's different but to play the puck around the back boards and then fire it in is just deeply unsporting, if my team did that id be ashamed of them, but then I guess sport is becoming a win at all costs event now and not a game being played for enjoyment and fair competition, it's just a game at the end of the day. Hopefully he isn't out for long, it looked like it could be a nasty one though sadly.

Well, the potential loss of our backup goalie and landeskog “hype guy” replacement last night is very concerning. Would love to see a video on how shitty that no call was. Through previous experience (Calvert), Avs fans are very knowledgeable on the injured player on ice rules. The refs had the power to blow the play dead and actively chose to allow it. Anyways, I am concerned about the probable loss of Wedgewood - his presence in the locker room cannot be overstated. If this injury is not season ending, be terrified. If it is, idk could be a bigger deal than it initially seems. Blackwood does have a history of injury and a solid backup seems important to his success.
Gushing over Avs miraculous terrifying victory over a last place team. Take a breath. And clutching pearls about the injured goalie non-call. Nobody minded Kadri injuring goalies when he played for the Avs.
As a Devils fan, I absolutely HATED the way that they treated Mac. They brought him up and just let him get absolutely destroyed. I knew that he was special... a "one of a kind" goaltender that could compete on an actual good team in the NHL. The Devils, at the time, were not that... as we were still in a re-building phase... And I only wish he would have stuck around! That way the team wouldn't have had to go fishing for someone like Markstrom! Who, by no means is a slouch of any kind! But at 34, and with one year left on his contract... he is more than likely going to bounce when that time is up... I would have rather had Mac locked up for long term and taken losses to only solidify a solid core around him, Nico, Jack, Bratts and others to form a NEW solid New Jersey Devils dynasty... and then we roll shit! Like it is 1995!!! lol
Western conference looks very interesting. I think Panthers will again take east. Knights and Jets are probably contenders as well. So might be any of the 4.
They say defense and goaltending win championships. It was true thirty years ago and is true today. The AVs will only be as good as their goaltender. If Blackwood gets hot this team could go deep.
If Nichuskin didnt shit the bed in the playoffs and get kicked out by the player assistance group two years in a row the avs would have gone way deeper into the playoffs. If he does it again i swear to God...
blackwood had let in 3 goal once since coming over and the 3rd was an empty netter , everyother game has been 2ga or less , i said this when weggie came on and posted a shutout if they can keep us to 2gaa for the rest of the year i dont see us losing more than 8-10 games and some of those would be in overtime or shootout still picking up points and so far they are doing it ,both buffalo games are out liars lol and the carolina game only games where we let in 4 or more and yet won 2 of them and the carolina game the boys were done 10mins into the 2nd they had no gas left after 5 game road trip and coming back to altitude . and theres "fans"still saying 4geiv is better than blackwood lmao
I was sitting there on Thursday night like there’s no way these guys won the last their five games-they played like shit in that 1st Period…then I had to pick my jaw up off the floor by the end of the game! 😔😆
I think the refs made the right call. You can't punish the attacking team when the defending team injures their own goalie. They were right to keep the play going until the Avs took control of the puck. Don't punish the Sabres for Avs on Avs violence. Carolina game was the same thing, Tkachuk pushes Kotkeniemi into Bobrovskiy and then holds Kotkeniemi down in the crease, preventing his own goalie from making a save. Refs were right to let it play there as well
Again, I still don't understand how you allow a player to go to rehab 3 times and you still want him to play for you? Idc if Nichuskin was the top point producer on the team, he shouldn't even be in the NHL if you can't stop the coke and hookers don't play
To quote Bednar when the refs gave him a half assed explanation for not blowing the whistle: “I don’t give a shit”
It was oh so satisfying finally seeing Bednar animated an pissed at something, he's usually so chill.
Also took em long enough to get over to the bench lmao
Same thing happened to bishop in Dallas ref didn’t blow play dead and blues scored

blacky is the first goalie we have sign to a contract for over 3 years in like 20 years thats insane to think about ,glad we did it cause iwas getting sick of these 2-3 year contracts ,hes 28 so we got him till hes 33-34 pray he stays healthy and keeps him game up and he will be will us till he calls it quits , hopfully with cup ring :) sad to think about that kempuer got a cup and herik lundquist never got one :/
Yeah AVS are in the top 3 contenders for the cup
I wouldn't jinx anything yet, we still get an injury every other game and gracefully swap between bullying teams and getting bullied
What about the sleepers of the west LA kings?
We need an oilers update video
THATS MY TEAM
My Avs have almost always been a Stanley Cup contender
Edmonton gotta take notes 🤣🤣🤣 Dostal?!?!?
Is Landeskog back yet?
No. I don't think anyone knows when he'll be returning.
They say defense and goaltending win championships. It was true thirty years ago and is true today. The AVs will only be as good as their goaltender. If Blackwood gets hot this team could go deep.
Crazy how average Montreal made them look
Damn Skippy Avs are terrifying. This is just the beginning. Let's go, baby. It's been a minute. Let's bring that stanley cup back home to Colorado.
If we can get a solid healthy back top 4 we will be unstoppable.
I don't think that ava can win again with Rantanen on the team.
We gotta talk about the Canucks. Complete opposite of the wagon they were last season
….oh Blackwood you were too good for us Sharks…..
Colorado is missing a player like Vinny Desharnais.
As an Avs fan all we need is league average goaltending and we're dangerous
Calm down we just lost a backup goalie and ha e 5 more players injured. Yeah this team has been pretty resilient tho
Definitely a contender
Let's just hope rantanen gets an extension
i really wanted the oilers to take blackwood
Avs are back baby!
If Landy comes back, we are winning the cup 🏒🏆
The return of Drouin !
No need to mention Lande
Go Avs go!!!!
Book it lock it avs all the way
Yes
I was sitting there on Thursday night like there’s no way these guys won the last their five games-they played like shit in that 1st Period…then I had to pick my jaw up off the floor by the end of the game! 😔😆
Image the habs win vs them omg
Habs have been a tough challenge, as seen last season. But the confidence from last night will give them the upper hand.
Habs will be on a b2b they are playing tonight
By far
I think the refs made the right call. You can't punish the attacking team when the defending team injures their own goalie. They were right to keep the play going until the Avs took control of the puck.
Don't punish the Sabres for Avs on Avs violence. Carolina game was the same thing, Tkachuk pushes Kotkeniemi into Bobrovskiy and then holds Kotkeniemi down in the crease, preventing his own goalie from making a save. Refs were right to let it play there as well
Landy
what a weird contract, no one else would be handing out that kind of money for Blackwood. he's been a sub .900 goaltender the last 3 seasons
Bednar needs a Haircut !
Again, I still don't understand how you allow a player to go to rehab 3 times and you still want him to play for you? Idc if Nichuskin was the top point producer on the team, he shouldn't even be in the NHL if you can't stop the coke and hookers don't play
Pay up Rantanen
Ho hum dammn
Brokewood
Wrong time for this video..
Why
@@-linusthegoat-4825Wedgewood likely out after last night.
@@acejm2233 I saw he got injured how long is he out
@ we don’t know, but it doesn’t look good. Bednar said “he’ll miss some time” before he’s even been assessed, which is always a bad sign.
beat team ever
This has been proven wrong.By the habs
Any NJD fan will tell you that goalie tandem is not "elite" -- with or without Miles Wood on your team.
Yeah. But y'all were terrible
