I remember the shock and horror of finding out what had happened to Tim, Paul, and Carl on that day. I was watching the Weather Channel, and I had seen Mike Bettes' broadcast of the tornado just before it nearly killed him. Had he been in a rented Cobalt rather than the burly Suburban, he may have met the same fate. It was the end of the "storm chasing is dangerous, but no storm chaser has ever died from a tornado" era. Traffic accidents, yes, but until El Reno, no chaser had ever died to a tornado. If I had to guess which one it would have been, it would not have been Twistex. I don't remember exactly how I learned that the Twistex crew had died, but I remember the sense of loss. It hits me now as I write this, and I never even met any of them. But I felt like I knew them a little bit, even if they did not know me. Rest in peace, Tim, Paul, and Carl. You are missed.
