      It's been 2 years... geez. I'm trying to get back into gaming after a bit of a hiatus. My buddy talked me into starting 40k so that might get the juices flowing to turn on the camera and start doing batreps again. I'm not sure what game systems we'd be doing though.

      I'm still alive and kickin'!!! I haven't been war gaming much as of late. My buddies / kids are trying to get me into 40k and Judge Dredd, not sure if that's going to result in new battle reports or not. I got a bit burnt out on writing / playing historicals so that type of content might be on ice for a while...

      Sorry for the late reply... I'm not sure if I'm going to be doing any more battle reports. As much as I've enjoyed doing them I just haven't had the time or motivation to get back into the groove.

      Thats a real pity I always liked your reports and am having issues with understanding some rules in MEG and was hoping you might make them clearer.
      many thanks for the previous reports still enjoy seeing them have a good life.

    I'm glad they switched to multibased infantry. I always felt that level of granularity in the ww2 version was unnecessary.

      I think it mostly had to do with the game being played in 10mm or 15mm. If they designed it for 20mm and up I think you'd probably see it set for single basing.

      @@TheAcceptableCasualties I get that but BG is this weird middle-child where they want to have the model scale of a large mass-battle game but also make you keep track of individual casualties, track ammo for your tanks, spot & fire, etc etc etc that should really have been streamlined down.

    • @TheAcceptableCasualties
      @TheAcceptableCasualties  3 года назад +1

      I only play Platoon size for BG so the individual casualties don't bother me that much but for company size and up I can see it as being very cumbersome. I've played with both tracking ammo and not tracking ammo for vehicles. To be honest I don't see it adding much to the game when I use it and when I don't I never feel like I miss it outside of those rare occasions when no one can hit the broad side of the barn.

      To be fair you can play standard Battlegroup that way and just track unit loses with a die.

      @@SpringfieldFatts One of the many reasons we dropped Battlegroup after 1 year or so. Platoon / skirmish level mechanics that REALLY slow the game down, tank combat pretty uninspiring unless at point blank ranges and the order system, while novel, really grinds the game down. 2 German platoons need 14 orders to move (you will often be lucky to get 12); they have this split-squad tactical flexibility that can't be turned off. The levels of support you can take for a platoon are ludicrous too. The books also carry way too much history and way too little material that's actually of use in the game, terrain rules for instance are non existent. Useful lists of formations for non WW2 enthusiasts would have been far more useful that the regurgitated history the author has read elsewhere. The books are poor value IMO with way too much repetition. Way too much faffing around for air attacks and overly complicated rules for auto cannons.

      It's been a LONG time since I went out and did any wargaming here in NoCo. Our group kind of died out once covid hit and most of the dice rolling ended up happening at peoples houses.
