Being a ‘mom’ to Maria and Joao, the orphaned, rescued baby giant #anteaters, was the most amazing experience of my life. I got to love them on my very first day volunteering at Criadouro Onça Pintada, Brazil. The #anteaters were unbelievable huggable, especially Maria. She wanted to cuddle most of the time. Sometimes she even fell asleep in my arms. Joao also loved to cuddle, butmost of the time he was busy playing with me or looking for ants on my face, in my shoes or pockets. It was amazing to see them grow so fast. I will keep them in my heart forever. I appreciate every moment I spent with these wonderful babies.
One was found near the dead body of its mom, the other in areas where there had been fires. Its mom probably died or escaped. They were brought to Criadouro Onca Pintada in the middle of July weighing about 3 kg. By the middle of September, they already weighed over 6 kg: Maria was 6.3 kg and Joao was 6.7 kg.

Crías de oso hormiguero rescatadas abrazando a su cuidadora
Ser la «mamá» de Maria y Joao, estas crías huérfanas de #osohormiguero, fue la experiencia más increíble de mi vida. Me enamoré de ellas desde mi primer día como voluntaria en el Criadouro Onça Pintada, Brasil. Las encantaban los abrazos, especialmente a Maria. Quería abrazos todo el tiempo. A veces hasta se quedaba dormida en mis brazos. A Joao también le encantaban los abrazos, pero la mayor parte del tiempo la pasaba jugando conmigo o buscando hormigas en mi cara, en mis zapatos o en mis bolsillos. Fue increíble verlas crecer tan rápido. Siempre las llevaré en el corazón. Agradezco cada momento que pasé con estos maravillosos bebés.
A una de ellas la encontraron al lado del cuerpo de su madre, a la otra en una zona donde había habido varios incendios. Su madre probablemente murió o huyó. Cuando llegaron al Criadouro Onca Pintada, a mediados de julio, pesaban unos 3 kg. Para mediados de septiembre ya pasaban los 6 kg: Maria 6,3 kg y Joao 6,7 kg.
Si ves que miro a la cámara todo el tiempo en el vídeo es porque me estaba grabando yo sola y quería estar segura de que se nos veía bien.

i think this woman has the best job ever - i'm totally jealous. i got hugged by an anteater once and initially it was scary - they come at you with arms outspread on their back legs and it's like something from a horror movie - it looks so strange and scary, but they legit give the best cuddles ever and all they want is love

Yes, she was very cuddling. Probably becuase she lost her mom when she was about 3 months old and I was taking care of her. She used to get sleep into my arms after the last feeding. She was a real sweatheart. Joao (the other rescued orphan anteater baby) was cute too, more playful , but sometimes he also wanted to get a cuddle :)
