Hey guys, it's great to see so many of you showing interest in our product! We're investigating ETA PRIME's findings concerning the GPU ith some testing, balancing performance and power consumption. As for the thermal paste, ETA's board was one of the first produced, that we used in the lab for testing. We wanted ETA to have one of the first ones, we couldn't wait for his review! That thermal paste is not the one we use to produce new boards, so you won't experience the same issue.
    Keep creating!

Is there any hope for a board with IPMI? -- this if it had 2 NICs(for failover or WAN/LAN), or some kind of PCIe hookup would be killer as a router/IDS/miniserver for home automation -- especially with all the IO you could control a bank of relays

Just got mine and huge word of warning to anyone interested in buying this:
1 - A lot of hardware/OS do not work with this. I spent all day trying different Linux distros and none could detect the built in emmc or my m.2 ssd drives. I used the modified Ubuntu image that's on UDOO site and it doesn't work at all, unfortunately.
Older windows versions also don't detect any of the drives, but the new 2019 edition of Windows does work for emmc.
2 - Upon installation I realized the temps were way too high - it was reaching 90 degrees on idle
Once I removed the heatsink I discovered a sticker with a piece of paper and plastic sheet still attached to the the heat sink - it took about 30 minutes to scrub off the glue and the paper, cleaning the heatsink and reapplying the thermal paste was necessary.
3 - I tried several m.2 ssd models and none worked with UDOO BOLT. Many ram sticks don't work either. It's very very picky with hardware and overall is a very challenging SBC to use so far.
I highly recommend waiting at least a year or even longer before purchasing this because there is simply no easy way to install stuff on it yet and the forum is full of confused users who are having a lot of trouble as well.

It has no Ryzen chip, but I bought a beelink x45 for £135, that has an intel celeron j4105 4 core CPU 1.500 ghz 2.600 GHz boost, intel 600 ultra HD graphics, 6 GB 2400 ddr4 memory, a 128 gb SSD, its own case, power supply, and a genuine install of Windows 10.
This thing is tiny, like twice the size of raspberry pi, or half the size of the asrock desk mini.
It's a sweet silent little device, I use android TV and batocera, Linux, Kodi, it like how you would like the raspberry pi 4 to be.

I wonder about the applications beyond PC and gaming -lets put all those io pins to work and then output to an AR or VR headset. How about tapping into a car ECU and adding a load of other sensing. Teslas have loads of cameras, are they accessible? If I had it I would want to use it in a kayak and use the io for muscle activation and vitals.
The price is reasonable for the small size and low power. It is just a matter of imagination for the right application.

Personally I think the pricing may seem high but considering what you're getting in terms of computing power it's right where it should be. You cannot compare this to something like a Raspberry Pi or Odroid. The Lattepanda is probably the SBC closest to this and these things blow it out of the water spec wise IMO. It's like comparing a mid-range ultra portable laptop to a base model Chromebook. They're both laptops but they're in completely different classes. And I bring up laptops because a board like this has a proprietary design & form factor like a laptop mainboard and uses most of the same components a laptop mainboard would use.

  • @kaizerkoala

The only problem is the price. It's really in a dilemma zone that you could either choose the smaller size vs cheaper yet more powerful of small form factor PC.

Size, size, size, this is all about the size. It would be better if they added another USB-C port and implemented PD, so people can share their power brick for this cutie, you know, it's about size, one extra power brick killed the purpose.

GPU throttling likely due to the CPU getting SoC voltage priority. If you can up the SoC voltage try limiting the max CPU speed in Windows power management to 85%. This should free up some power for the APU. Good luck.

Have you checked the Energy Options in Windows 10? Some systems had issues in the past when it was set to balanced or power saver. Be sure you have set it to High Performance and test again if the GPU is still performing weak.
I also heard that CPU and GPU might throttle down in an APU to stay inside the TDP limits.

iGPU throttling could be cooling or power delivery. Try a beefier active cooler then higher wattage power adapter considering system board isn't limiting power input.
