I watched her vid about autogynophelia yesterday. And yet again, she talked over and talked for the trans person she invited to be on her video. It was so painful
Here's my thing, though, has a trans woman tried to pressure me, a lesbian, into having sex? Absolutely. Has a cis woman tried to pressure me into sex? You betcha. I've even had men, both cis and trans, try the same with no regard for the big ole "LESBIAN" written all over my dating profiles or when I would tell them in person. The facts are, it's not a trans issue, but it's a dating in a hypersexualized society issue--ESPECIALLY in the LGBT community where putting out is something we're stereotyped to do all the time. Trying to paint it like it's trans women doing all of this, especially to lesbians, is wild to me because if you've been a lesbian, or a female dating in any capacity you've had that kind of pressure from every walk of life at least once and I have to think that she, of all people, being a lesbian who is vocal on the internet, would know that the most.
Yeah, I mean tbh, after watching a few of her videos, she really seems to be taking the INCREDIBLY VALID issue of people not respecting lesbians' boundaries on dating apps and translating that into something much much larger. Yes, straight men being on dating apps for lesbians is an issue, but that's not really something that relates to trans women.
Yeah same, I have experienced sexual violence from a trans woman. But I've also been SA'd by cis women. The terf rhetoric worries me not because I think there's no trans woman predators, there definitely are but tbh my anecdotal experience suggests they often are using being trans to get the guards down of other trans girls not to target cis women, but because they're acting like this shit is black and white. The penis is not the source of sexual violence, it's being a fucking awful person raised in a terrible society. It scares me because I think the reason I have been violated by women disproportionately is because I was raised feeling like there was nothing to fear from them and thus allowed myself to be more vulnerable with them, like casually sharing a bed and being platonically physically intimate despite not really knowing them that well. Like we have to just be honest with kids and tell them that some people are bad and you don't know who so be careful, not 'man dangerous, woman safe'.
I feel like people always ignore victims of cis women. I’m a young lesbian and was inappropriately touched by cis girl. SA has never been and never will be about dicks. Only about disrespecting boundaries.
@@MelissaHogwood I think you're massively misunderstanding what we're saying if you think the argument is just "well cis girls do it too". First of all I wasn't arguing anything I was sharing my experiences and expressing my concerns. I'm not talking to any terfs so I don't think I need to argue anything right now. But my point was that the propensity to sexual violence isn't a trait you have that's directly related to your genitals or birth assigned sex. And that it's dangerous to teach that to young people, and it further marginalises us as lesbians who have experienced sexual violence from a cis woman.
I feel that many arguments terfs have about trans women are really just that some people are bad + some people are trans = some trans people are bad people
The mistake I think people are making is assuming they need to be super vocal about a preference. There has never been a time where I felt anything but confusion over a white man telling me "I think you're really attractive for a black girl." I wasn't asking, and don't care. It is neither the compliment or insult that they think it is: I'm not remotely interested in holding someone's hand while they figure their shit out. Whether their lack of attraction to people of color is racist or not is irrelevant to me because I'm not interested in someone who's on the fence about this sort of thing. Byyyyeee!
I feel like "I don't date trans people" is the "I don't like rap" of sexuality. You're obviously not a racist just because you don't like rap, but God damn if there isn't a really vocal brand of racist who's entire musical taste is just a twenty minute rant on how rap isn't "real" music.

I feel like people who have to make it known that they don't date some group of people... like why do you need to advertise this? Just don't date them, then. The advertising it is what makes it clear it's actually a front. The need to get in a conversation and pontificate about what group you wouldn't date is the part that's sus. Low key I think a lot of them think it's a way to subtly insult the group they're talking about by implying they aren't desirable and other people should follow suit. Also it's often the worst insult they can think of for a woman: "undateable". And they know they can get away with it if they pretend it's some "preference" thing. Same as when people are like, "I'm not attracted to black girls" or "fat girls" or "a girl who has slept with more people than me". All of these are fine choices to make about your own life, but why are you telling me about it right now in this Chillis?

She makes the mistake of framing her personal feelings about someone as gospel that defines who they are. Calling monosexual folks who date trans women something other than their sexuality is pretty shitty. I would encourage you to really ponder on what you are describing as "insanity" and whether or not your resource for said insanity is directly from trans people or from people criticizing their existence. Arielle's content often relies on your prejudices; like in her autogynephelia video, she uses Jacob Tobia, a non binary person who doesn't identify as a trans woman and doesn't shave their face, as the cover of the video with the header "This is NOT a trans woman". She's relying on the fact that you're going to look at a person who was designated male at birth, who has a beard and wears make up and say "ew". And that reaction is supposed to further prove her point, but the reality is... it's not reflective of at all of how Jacob feels. I think you should really sit with that because you'll find that these issues aren't as large as they're being presented.

I think the whole debate is pointless, because it’s such a hypothetical construct. I’ve been in a hetero relationship for 8 years. Would I potentially date women or trans men or trans women? Maybe? Doesn’t it depend on the person and the chemistry? It’s like debating which celebrity you’d rather date. You might have a preconception on what they might be like, but who can really tell until you are in the situation? In the same vein, loudly and proudly proclaiming you wouldn’t date a person of x minority, because you had a bad experience with one individual is the definition of bigotry. It makes me so angry how Arielle talks about lesbians like we all agree with her. It took me years after coming out to feel comfortable calling myself a lesbian because of the word's association with porn that I could not identify with. It felt like as soon as I was comfortable with it, the only people loudly calling themselves lesbians on the internet were TERFs. I think most cis lesbians I've met IRL are happy to have trans women in their queer spaces and dating pools. Obviously, TERF rhetoric does a lot more harm to trans women than cis lesbians like me who are just annoyed at being lumped in with them, but I really hate the idea that there are trans wlw out there who are avoiding connections and community with other queer women out of fear of people like Arielle.
Lesbian TERFs tend to be the same lesbians who refuse to date bisexual women. Their whole identity hinges on hating men (and people who they perceive as men) so the idea of a woman dating men and women is threatening to them. It gross how much they gatekeep.

And any time that happened, the actual issue wasn't that anyone was forced to sleep with a trans woman, but that the lesbians who willingly did, also got to call themselves lesbian. In the end of the day, the motivation for these discussions never seems to be a genuine worry of having to have sex with someone you don't want to, but hating to be grouped together with the people who's preferences differ from your's (lesbians who have relationships with trans women) or who you personally have prejudices against (trans women). Kinda the same thing has happened in the trans spaces, when they said that nonbinary people are "nonbinary, not trans", even if some nonbinary people do meet the criteria for what being trans means. People just don't want to be associated with someone _they_ have prejudices against.
@Oreo I'm nonbinary ace myself, though I've thought in the past I must be lesbian before I found out ace is a thing. The short period of time I identified as lesbian, I felt more restricted than ever (I wasn't questioning my gender yet). It didn't feel the right label for me at all, even if I didn't understand why (didn't know my actual sexual orientation or gender yet). It felt like no part of me belogned to the lesbian community, even if technically I could call myself one. I don't know if it's more due to my gender or orientation. However, if I was actually attracted to women, I personally still wouldn't feel comfortable calling myself lesbian since I'd feel like it erased my gender. I'd probably call myself gynosexual instead. I think it's better to have a term that actually describes you than erases another part of you and makes people confused. But, as said, this is just my opinion, and it's fine to use whatever label you personally feel like fits ☺️

I'm glad you took the time to genuinely unpack her video. A lot of people fall for her fallacious arguments, but part of me always wondered if she knew better. Many transphobic creators just seem like grifters to me because there's almost always a degree of deception at play, and once you learn how to spot it, you can never unsee it because you realize what they're doing is ultimately for personal gain. The bias against trans people in society is already there, so it's essentially low effort content for high engagement. Still repulsive behavior, but I've found it numbs you and makes it easier to deconstruct their BS.
But like what did she say that was transphobic? Basically all she did was read the article verbatim. And why is Kat and people like her allowed to question lesbians experiences ("hmm I don't know if I believe they've felt pressure to have sex with people with dicks) but she would never ever question someone's experience with being raped or molested or any other minority group that expressed negative experiences like this. As a lesbian I have definitely heard things from left queer circles that I feel like are harmful and can be seen as pressuring, for example one time I was having a conversation on some social media platform I don’t remember what where I said that as a lesbian I 100% would date a trans woman but if she didn’t have bottom surgery then I wouldn’t feel comfortable doing anything sexual with her and I had a person (if I remember right they weren’t even a trans woman) say that unless I had trauma related to penises, then I was being transphobic, which Is a huge yikes, but again it wasn’t even a trans woman saying it. There will be random shitty people in every group on every topic, that doesn’t mean every person agrees with them.
I feel the whole thought of "you can only say no if you have penis trauma" just negativity reinforces the idea that only penis-centric trauma is important and anything less than that is "being narrow minded". There are plenty of valid reasons to reject sex with someone that don't involve trauma
there definitely is a lot of toxicity in queer spaces in general, also infighting among trans people themselves is really bad, i just don't think the way Arielle decides to deal with those things are helping the problem in any way. If she genuinely cared, she'd maybe make educational conent and calmly and rationally explain why the sentiment is bad, not make fun of trans and nb people while posing with maga hats and guns and touting terfisms.

Either you want to and they also want to or someone doesn't want to and if anyone doesn't want it then there's no reason to second guess their judgment or their instincts about being intimate with, or even considering being intimate with another person ever. If it doesn't feel right to you just don't do it. You never owe anyone an explanation for having your preferences or choices.
i think a problem is terfs will take situations like these, and then turn it into "trans women are coercing me into sex" when its just someone... calling them transphobic(deserved or not).
The thing for me about the "dating question" is that almost everyone I meet who feels the need to mention the fact that they aren't interested in dating trans people (or mentions a genital preference), almost always ends up being a transphobe in other ways. Given this experience, what other conclusions am I left to draw about dating preferences other than that it's related to transphobia?
YES! Thank you for pointing this out. I think this is the reason most trans folx also make such a big deal out of this "dating question", too. Because, more often than not, if someone is vocal about their genital preferences/dating preferences, they often turn out to be transphobic in other ways. It's not a matter of "if you won't date/fuck me, you're transphobic," it's more "You hate trans people, therefore you won't date/fuck me, so you're transphobic," if that makes sense.

So I will say that in my short time dating as a cis lesbian, I have run into a few (pre-op) trans women who tried to use the "fall in love with the person not their genitals" argument with me. But as you said, I think this was more just a case of them projecting their definition of lesbian attraction -- one which doesn't necessarily place weight on a person's physiognomy so much as on their gender presentation/identity -- onto me. These women were not bad people, I could tell that much just from talking to them; just young and maybe insecure about their bodies. This is not the same as someone trying to coerce someone into sexual contact with them and I was not afraid of them because of it. I just disagreed and went on my way; I wasn't a "victim" in the slightest.

I'm a straight person so I don't really have a strong, overwhelming desire to participate in queer spaces. Have I been made to feel closed minded for not being interested in women? Absolutely. When you're a polyamorous, sex positive woman, people constantly assume you're bisexual and I have to constantly reinforce that I have zero desire to be with women. It's actually something I talk about quite a bit on this channel. I've had a LOT of conversations about how I need to "try it because maybe I'll like it". I don't like that, but it would actually be very shitty for me to then translate my interactions with cis women who are attracted to women as "all women with sapphic desires are predatory and pushy". Some are, yes, but the majority respect boundaries.
Thank you for telling us about the Shinigami Eyes extension. Not knowing if someone is LGBT-friendly is always what makes me hesitate about subscribing to people I have never heard of, so now I don't have to worry as much about having to constantly subscribing then turning around and unsubscribing because I found out someone I started watching was actually bigoted.

It's incredible to me how back in my early 20s I used to watch both you and Arielle cause y'all had similar-ish videos, talking about LGBT issues. It would be quite easy to compile a similar list for the words gay, Christian, trekkie, what have you. If I made a shirt that said "I punch Trekkies" it wouldn't make Trekkie a slur. Also the whole "not dating trans people is transphobic" thing. I think rejecting an individual trans person who you have met and decided you're not attracted to isn't inherently transphobic. The problem most people (including myself) with the "I don't date trans people" line is that it's often said when nobody asked, and is applied to all trans people. And unpacking the reasoning for that usually leads to either generalizations about trans people (often the assumption that you'd KNOW they were trans just by looking at them with their clothes off) or incorrect assumptions about what dating a trans person is like. Plenty of trans women who have dicks would PREFER their partner not suck it or interact with it at all.
Honestly terf is used more as descripter of a hate group, like natsee,but more specificused. And if someone is called that, the right reaction should be, is there something i did to warrant that,not call it a slur. Like rassist too, canpeople called that falsely, yes, but its notaslur at all, its a descriptor.
@Akairo Kaminari you can say violence from anyone isn't ok, they're plenty of people who agree with TERF declarations of violence against Trans women, so there are people like me who understand why some people would want to be violent right back to TERFs. Trans women have been told they should be murdered for existing as women, I don't blame a few them for being that kind of angry, even if it isn't "right".

Some trans woman get surgery, some dont, some trans men bind, some don't, everyone is different. I think "i have a genital preference" vs. "i would never date ANY trans person EVER regardless of their personality, appearance, or body," are like two different statements, the former is more innocuous. The latter just makes you look more like you just think the idea of being trans at all is just yucky.

as far as i know, only one single person flagging you isn't enough for everyone else who uses the extension to see you as flagged. in my understanding, when someone is being flagged a lot, someone from SE checks out what they're saying and defines whether they'll appear as flagged for everyone or not. so maybe there were multiple people trying to get you flagged, or maybe someone working on SE fucked something up. in any case, if you go to the page where you can get the extension for chrome (even if you're not using chrome), you get the option "contact the developer" if you scroll down a little bit, on the lower right. so maybe that could work better.
Something that really annoys me in the whole "dating trans people" debacle is that all that trans people talk about it is meant to be thought about in a collective sense, like our society as a whole should start questioning the roots of what is the attractive norm, how what is communicated as "acceptable to be attracted to" influence people. But cis people keep deciding to take this matter personally, they keep seeing as an individual attack and it's so fucking tiring. It also pisses me off that this is like one of the centerpieces of discussion about trans people because the only reason that it is is because cis people sexualize trans people so much.

I'm sorry that happened to you when you were young and still finding your way. I first encountered her when I was a whole adult bisexual (idk probably mid-20s) and I had heard all the bullshit before, so I was mostly just annoyed by her. But this is part of why channels like hers are so harmful. It's hard enough being an LGBT+ kid, so it really hurts when someone who's supposed to be "on your side" tells you there's something wrong with you, too.

A few years ago I built my RUclips platform around this whole conversation. It feels yucky in retrospect, but at the time I was hopeful that I was going to be a voice of reason to win over transphobes. I did a minor colab with Arielle. And I was making videos saying the kinds of things she and her crew wanted to hear. But I noticed that instead of working for ways to bring resolution between our communities, she would double-down on the talking points. I noticed that her anti-trans rants were getting tons of views, and her other videos weren't. So if she was going to pay her bills, she needed to post the videos that get the views. She has a vested interest in stoking the drama, and she has no interest in resolving it. And I just thought, I'm done trying to have this conversation because I feel like it will never be in good faith. You can't change someone's mind when their paycheck depends on them not changing.
I see her as a very opportunistic person. I know she mostly does this for money. Her job is very easy. I remember being very frustrated that i tried to reach her and she just doubled down. Such is life

But I was only vocalizing the parts I knew that people like her would agree with, and intentionally remaining silent on the parts I knew they wouldn't. The idea was going to be that once I won over their trust, I could then start to bring them out of their transphobia. But by the time I got to the place where I had earned a voice with them, I was too exhausted from the conversation to keep engaging. Unfortunately that left most people on both sides assuming I lined up with the transphobes. It would be nice to clear my name with shinigami. But also, I'm just so tired of engaging in transgender discourse anymore. Once I stopped engaging with transphobes, I no longer had to justify my existence, and my life became so much more peaceful. Honestly the most enlightening take I've seen on this was a tumblr post of all things a few years back written by a trans woman where the central message was "having sex with a trans woman will never be the exact same as with a cis man". It was essentially pointing out a lot of ignorance about what sex with a trans woman actually looked like, that it wasn't de facto penetration and blowjobs and how dysphoria and transitioning can also play a significant role. And while that will probably sound obvious to a lot of people, it was new information to many cis lesbians and really brought the conversation back to negotiating the kind of sex you desire and boundaries. If your boundary is that you don't want to interact with a penis and that's also your trans partner's preference, is that still a problem for you? Why have you assumed it would be a problem for her? It leaves space for lesbians who would feel uncomfortable or traumatised around dicks to reject trans partners without expressing transphobia. The problem to me is the transphobic perception that in an intimate space, trans women will remove the mask and show themselves to literally be men underneath - men who only care about forcing themselves on women. While I can't exactly claim experience, the fact that there are so many misconceptions around what a sexual relationship with a trans woman can look like feels central to a lot of the fear and exaggeration. You are always free to express a boundary but you should never assume what someone else wants. Btw it's a testimony to how dedicated Kat is to seeing all sides that she didn't immediately shrug off a Daily Mail article as hyperbole lmao. I never have, I’m sure they exist and it could just be bc I tend to hang out with like minded people + the internet is kind of an echo chamber but every trans person I know (self included) doesn’t really care, like the most that anyone has said is that it sucks that their transness can limit their dating pool, but never that anyone has to date them. I’ve seen some tweets and stuff where people do say stuff like this but it’s mostly in anti trans articles so I have to question exactly how wide spread it is. At the end of the day there are trans people who think like that, but I think it’s more of an issue with a sense of entitlement that some people hold in every community, and not actually representative of a problem with trans people as a whole.
This whole perception of trans people as “unhinged angry activists who fly off the handle if you so much as enact a slight microagression against them” is so dramatically opposite of reality. Yeah there are some on the internet but the internet is not real life
I met a transgirl once who pretty much behaved this way, but she was also clearly mentally ill, so I assume that (and not her transness) was the main factor for her pushiness. Her rant was more along the lines of "I hate when people aren't attracted to me" after being rejected, which comes across more as a bruised ego than a predator- at least in my opinion
The older I get, the more I realized that sexuality is a fluid thing. Anything is possible and the labels only matter is you want them to. At the end of the day. Know what you want, your worth, and who adds value.

I just can't imagine what it must be like to still feel/think/speak that way, when we have amazing minds like you and other trans creators generating the most thought-provoking content/conversations. I remember way back in the day she used to just do more collaborative content surrounding sex "positivity"/education, but she's just fallen off a cliff. She harbors so much negativity/seems to stress herself out and you can honestly see it, physically on her. Part of me is grossed out/angry with her type of TERF dialogue and part of me just feels repulsed pity for her.
No one should be pressured into sex!! lesbian or otherwise, if someone is uncomfortable with certain genitals, that's fine. its not transphobic to say that you'd be uncomfortable having sex with a trans person who hasn't gone through certain surgeries. some things make certain people uncomfortable, and that's ok. boundaries are important. What is transphobia, however, is telling a trans person without those surgeries that because they haven't had them, they're not trans, or they're not valid, or they're a liar for not telling the specifics of their gender and sex.
I'd argue that saying you wouldn't have sex with a trans person _can_ be transphobic depending on context. Rejecting someone based on sexual boundaries? Nothing wrong with that. Talking about sexual boundaries when it comes up in conversation? Totally fine! Bringing up how unattractive you think someone is when they have never expressed interest in you? Commenting your sexual preferences on an unrelated video or forum? Making rant videos about how you would never date a non-existent member of a certain group? Weird. All of those (by virtue of their being otherwise irrelevant) seem to imply that the very existence of trans people is sexual and puts people around us in danger of sexual assualt. Same vibes as "Oh, you're gay? You better not be attracted to _me."_
I really liked Arielle like at the start because there wasn't a lot of out queer women on RUclips, so it was always great watching her videos and getting a perspective as someone who was very closeted at the time. But now it's just so, exhausting. Like I mean I probably stopped watching her in 2010, 2011? I think I was still watching her on and off, but I think the video that kind of landed the nail in the coffin was her video about what lesbians think about bisexual women. While I don't ID as bisexual, I still align myself with bisexual communities and groups because there's no pansexual ones, but it really fucking hurt that that's what a lot of these lesbians think about us, and while she never stated her beliefs outright (aside from saying "you should be able to date who you want to date") from what I've seen she holds some very biphobic views. And her influence in the queer community dwindled so fast due to her transphobic beliefs. I'm glad that not a lot of people really listen to her anymore, but man.

THANK YOU Im a lesbian and so confused where this conversation is happening because I have never ever been pressured to sleep with trans women - the only pressure i've experienced has been pressure from general society to be straight, like men and like penises But ive never ever had pressure to like penises from LGBT spaces and especially never from trans people I feel like lesbians and trans women actually have a lot more in common than people realise and I relate to straight trans women, more than straight cis women, as trans women and lesbians are both painted as predatory and excluded from womanhood / compared to men often (obviously trans women experience this much more prevalently) so I find trans women and lesbians alike (and trans lesbians especially) to be OVERLY cautious with boundaries and making sure everyone's comfortable

Oh God I remember this lady from way back in like 2014.. thankfully as an impressionable questioning kid i thought her vibes were weird and never watched her. I identified as a cis lesbian at the time and I //know// that if I had watched her and took her word as gospel it would've set me back years in accepting myself (as bi / attracted to people of all genders and Not cisgender). The "study" she referenced not only had a very small sample size--it equated feeling social pressure because of people online saying "trans women are women" with trans women coercing them to have sex with them. There's all kinds of other issues with the article and the study it was based on.
Recently I had an omni person trying to tell me that I wasn't bi but either poly/omni/pan because "BI MEANS TWO". Then went on a rant about how most bi people are pan/omni/poly but "it requires understanding there are more than 2 genders" pretty much implying I'm transphobic to enby people. I had a pansexual jump on me once on the whispers app and made weird assumptions about how I approach people because I mentioned having attractions for transgender women. I thought it was strange because pansexual is so inclusive of transgender people.

Hey Kat, loved this throwback! I remember Arielle as being one of the first lesbian YTers I found when I was a teen discovering myself, and even at 14 I started to sense a real feeling of judgement and anger for other members of her community and stopped watching. This was such an interesting video because as I think you rightly pointed out, even though some of the tweets on that (terribly named) website were maybe not a great approach, but even given the most open minded reading, none of them could be this "proof" that Arielle claimed of "hundreds and thousands" of lesbians being pressured into sex with trans women. In my own opnion, most of them had very few likes and were clearly tweeted into the void with anger and frustration. A pretty fair reaction to the real physical harm that TERFS are doing, although occasionally cringey and maybe unhelpful.

I'm ttand and I agree. If I were to sit down and have a conversation with someone and they said they weren't interested I'd be ok with that! Rejection is natural and fine. The real problem is that no trans person should fear for their life when they reveal they are trans. You also shouldn't feel stuck dating with someone if you know it's not gonna last. Its a horrible feeling and drawing those things out only lead to a far worse experience
i think it matters way more how a person treats real trans people, or the "idea" on transness, than whether or not they want to sleep with specific trans people. and HOW they word their opinions obviously.

It's a complex issue but at the end of the day, don't waste your time on people who simply aren't interested in you. Sexuality *is* personal, and you *don't* get to define what it means for someone else..And it's okay for some people not to be attracted to you, regardless of your gender identity or body parts. You just need to find someone who is attracted to you
Its a bit off topic and also pretty late, but I find it very interesting and helpful how you describe having a history with someone you deeply dislike and at the same time feeling sorry for them. They wronged you and you dont want them to be in your life, but you can see how they ultimatively sabotage themselves with their behaviour and you feel bad for that. Its such a weird and confusing feeling, especially when they actively hurt you.
As a WLW who has dated trans women most of what I’ve personally experienced has been a hesitation to even express attraction to me for fear of making me uncomfortable. Like their transness is some weapon that they have to show me isn’t loaded. It’s horrible. People treat other people badly and pressure them and it’s a problem, I get it. Consent is a concept not all people grasp. But, I think that people like A.S. aren’t fully understanding the damage they’re doing to these women in choosing this specific topic as their crusade. Trans women aren’t predators just because you see them as adjacent to men. Not being attracted to trans women is personal, and you should probably keep it to yourself when it isn’t relevant. Characterizing large swaths of an oppressed group this way is not the same thing. It’s bigoted.
I do think it's important to think about the way transphobia colors our thoughts, opinions, and actions, but regardless of whether or not a willingness to sleep with someone is a part of that the fact is they're not comfortable sleeping with a trans person, and regardless of the reason I know that I, personally, would never want to have sex with someone not fully comfortable and willing and happy to have sex with me, and I'd never want to have sex with someone I'm not fully comfortable with. Even if (I want to emphasize "if" here) being raised in a transphobic society plays a part, that doesn't mean that it always plays a part, and they're are plenty of transphobes that are happy to have sex with trans people so the issue is obviously more nuanced and complex than "if you don't want to sleep with trans people you're a transphobe." At the end of the day, I don't want to have sex with someone that doesn't want to have sex with me, regardless of why. If we really want to talk about how transness affects attraction and sexual actions, while we do need to talk about how society has labelled attraction to trans people as taboo, we also need to talk about the fetishization of trans people (especially trans women) and the ways in which people don't want to publically be seen as a partner of a trans person, among others. This issue is more nuanced than many people pretend it is in multiple different directions, and considering that the issue affects trans people so much reducing it to pointing fingers at people and calling them transphobes does the people who do that (and the entire community) a disservice.

Where I start considering people transphobic is when the relationship is going great and then the cis person finds out their partner is trans and suddenly there's a problem. Like at that point, they definitely need to look into themselves to think why suddenly you can't be with your partner anymore. I can ~kinda~ understand being lied to but what about people wanting to just protect themselves or just thinking I've lived as a woman for so long that it's honestly just not on their mind?

Here's my thing, though, has a trans woman tried to pressure me, a lesbian, into having sex? Absolutely. Has a cis woman tried to pressure me into sex? You betcha. I've even had men, both cis and trans, try the same with no regard for the big ole "LESBIAN" written all over my dating profiles or when I would tell them in person.
The facts are, it's not a trans issue, but it's a dating in a hypersexualized society issue--ESPECIALLY in the LGBT community where putting out is something we're stereotyped to do all the time. Trying to paint it like it's trans women doing all of this, especially to lesbians, is wild to me because if you've been a lesbian, or a female dating in any capacity you've had that kind of pressure from every walk of life at least once and I have to think that she, of all people, being a lesbian who is vocal on the internet, would know that the most.
Yeah, I mean tbh, after watching a few of her videos, she really seems to be taking the INCREDIBLY VALID issue of people not respecting lesbians' boundaries on dating apps and translating that into something much much larger. Yes, straight men being on dating apps for lesbians is an issue, but that's not really something that relates to trans women.
Yeah same, I have experienced sexual violence from a trans woman. But I've also been SA'd by cis women. The terf rhetoric worries me not because I think there's no trans woman predators, there definitely are but tbh my anecdotal experience suggests they often are using being trans to get the guards down of other trans girls not to target cis women, but because they're acting like this shit is black and white. The penis is not the source of sexual violence, it's being a fucking awful person raised in a terrible society. It scares me because I think the reason I have been violated by women disproportionately is because I was raised feeling like there was nothing to fear from them and thus allowed myself to be more vulnerable with them, like casually sharing a bed and being platonically physically intimate despite not really knowing them that well. Like we have to just be honest with kids and tell them that some people are bad and you don't know who so be careful, not 'man dangerous, woman safe'.
I feel like people always ignore victims of cis women. I’m a young lesbian and was inappropriately touched by cis girl. SA has never been and never will be about dicks. Only about disrespecting boundaries.
@@MelissaHogwood I think you're massively misunderstanding what we're saying if you think the argument is just "well cis girls do it too". First of all I wasn't arguing anything I was sharing my experiences and expressing my concerns. I'm not talking to any terfs so I don't think I need to argue anything right now. But my point was that the propensity to sexual violence isn't a trait you have that's directly related to your genitals or birth assigned sex. And that it's dangerous to teach that to young people, and it further marginalises us as lesbians who have experienced sexual violence from a cis woman.
I feel that many arguments terfs have about trans women are really just that some people are bad + some people are trans = some trans people are bad people
The mistake I think people are making is assuming they need to be super vocal about a preference. There has never been a time where I felt anything but confusion over a white man telling me "I think you're really attractive for a black girl." I wasn't asking, and don't care. It is neither the compliment or insult that they think it is: I'm not remotely interested in holding someone's hand while they figure their shit out. Whether their lack of attraction to people of color is racist or not is irrelevant to me because I'm not interested in someone who's on the fence about this sort of thing. Byyyyeee!

I feel like people who have to make it known that they don't date some group of people... like why do you need to advertise this? Just don't date them, then. The advertising it is what makes it clear it's actually a front. The need to get in a conversation and pontificate about what group you wouldn't date is the part that's sus. Low key I think a lot of them think it's a way to subtly insult the group they're talking about by implying they aren't desirable and other people should follow suit. Also it's often the worst insult they can think of for a woman: "undateable". And they know they can get away with it if they pretend it's some "preference" thing. Same as when people are like, "I'm not attracted to black girls" or "fat girls" or "a girl who has slept with more people than me". All of these are fine choices to make about your own life, but why are you telling me about it right now in this Chillis?

She makes the mistake of framing her personal feelings about someone as gospel that defines who they are. I would encourage you to really ponder on what you are describing as "insanity" and whether or not your resource for said insanity is directly from trans people or from people criticizing their existence. Arielle's content often relies on your prejudices; like in her autogynephelia video, she uses Jacob Tobia, a non binary person who doesn't identify as a trans woman and doesn't shave their face, as the cover of the video with the header "This is NOT a trans woman". She's relying on the fact that you're going to look at a person who was designated male at birth, who has a beard and wears make up and say "ew". And that reaction is supposed to further prove her point, but the reality is... it's not reflective of at all of how Jacob feels. I think you should really sit with that because you'll find that these issues aren't as large as they're being presented.

That said, it's also pretty dishonest and unrealistic to pretend that my body, for example, functions as a cis man's does because it simply doesn't.

I think the whole debate is pointless, because it’s such a hypothetical construct. I’ve been in a hetero relationship for 8 years. Would I potentially date women or trans men or trans women? Maybe? Doesn’t it depend on the person and the chemistry? It’s like debating which celebrity you’d rather date. You might have a preconception on what they might be like, but who can really tell until you are in the situation? In the same vein, loudly and proudly proclaiming you wouldn’t date a person of x minority, because you had a bad experience with one individual is the definition of bigotry. I had a bad encounter with a blonde German dude - so all of blonde German dudes are now unworthy of attraction from all cis women? It doesn’t make any sense. The whole issue stems, I think, from trans people being tired of hearing how they are worthless of desire and the real world danger of being killed by those who feel “tricked”. It makes me so angry how Arielle talks about lesbians like we all agree with her. It took me years after coming out to feel comfortable calling myself a lesbian because of the word's association with porn that I could not identify with. It felt like as soon as I was comfortable with it, the only people loudly calling themselves lesbians on the internet were TERFs. I think most cis lesbians I've met IRL are happy to have trans women in their queer spaces and dating pools.
Obviously, TERF rhetoric does a lot more harm to trans women than cis lesbians like me who are just annoyed at being lumped in with them, but I really hate the idea that there are trans wlw out there who are avoiding connections and community with other queer women out of fear of people like Arielle.

Bingo! I've talked on some lesbian spaces where the discussion turned rather TERFy. And any time that happened, the actual issue wasn't that anyone was forced to sleep with a trans woman, but that the lesbians who willingly did, also got to call themselves lesbian. In the end of the day, the motivation for these discussions never seems to be a genuine worry of having to have sex with someone you don't want to, but hating to be grouped together with the people who's preferences differ from your's (lesbians who have relationships with trans women) or who you personally have prejudices against (trans women).
Kinda the same thing has happened in the trans spaces, when they said that nonbinary people are "nonbinary, not trans", even if some nonbinary people do meet the criteria for what being trans means. People just don't want to be associated with someone _they_ have prejudices against.
@Oreo I'm nonbinary ace myself, though I've thought in the past I must be lesbian before I found out ace is a thing. The short period of time I identified as lesbian, I felt more restricted than ever (I wasn't questioning my gender yet). It didn't feel the right label for me at all, even if I didn't understand why (didn't know my actual sexual orientation or gender yet). It felt like no part of me belogned to the lesbian community, even if technically I could call myself one. I don't know if it's more due to my gender or orientation.
However, if I was actually attracted to women, I personally still wouldn't feel comfortable calling myself lesbian since I'd feel like it erased my gender. I'd probably call myself gynosexual instead. I think it's better to have a term that actually describes you than erases another part of you and makes people confused. But, as said, this is just my opinion, and it's fine to use whatever label you personally feel like fits ☺️

I'm glad you took the time to genuinely unpack her video. A lot of people fall for her fallacious arguments, but part of me always wondered if she knew better. Many transphobic creators just seem like grifters to me because there's almost always a degree of deception at play, and once you learn how to spot it, you can never unsee it because you realize what they're doing is ultimately for personal gain. The bias against trans people in society is already there, so it's essentially low effort content for high engagement. Still repulsive behavior, but I've found it numbs you and makes it easier to deconstruct their BS.

If you can't tell if someone is trans and want to date them (and they don't have a penis if you don't like penis), but when you find out they are trans, you suddenly don't want to date them, then you really need to recognize where that is coming from.

Let’s say someone looked at the documented and researched cases of how women of all demographics have been pressured to have sex by men, and they made a community all about hating men. They would be called a misandrist or man-hater. While people who’s been pushed beyond their consent should never have been treated that way, using those cases as an excuse to label an entire demographic is just bigotry hiding as social justice

As a lesbian I have definitely heard things from left queer circles that I feel like are harmful and can be seen as pressuring, for example one time I was having a conversation on some social media platform I don’t remember what where I said that as a lesbian I 100% would date a trans woman but if she didn’t have bottom surgery then I wouldn’t feel comfortable doing anything sexual with her and I had a person (if I remember right they weren’t even a trans woman) say that unless I had trauma related to penises, then I was being transphobic, which Is a huge yikes, but again it wasn’t even a trans woman saying it. There will be random shitty people in every group on every topic, that doesn’t mean every person agrees with them.
I feel the whole thought of "you can only say no if you have penis trauma" just negativity reinforces the idea that only penis-centric trauma is important and anything less than that is "being narrow minded". There are plenty of valid reasons to reject sex with someone that don't involve trauma
there definitely is a lot of toxicity in queer spaces in general, also infighting among trans people themselves is really bad, i just don't think the way Arielle decides to deal with those things are helping the problem in any way. If she genuinely cared, she'd maybe make educational conent and calmly and rationally explain why the sentiment is bad, not make fun of trans and nb people while posing with maga hats and guns and touting terfisms.

Either you want to and they also want to or someone doesn't want to and if anyone doesn't want it then there's no reason to second guess their judgment or their instincts about being intimate with, or even considering being intimate with another person ever. If it doesn't feel right to you just don't do it. You never owe anyone an explanation for having your preferences or choices.

YES! Thank you for pointing this out. I think this is the reason most trans folx also make such a big deal out of this "dating question", too. Because, more often than not, if someone is vocal about their genital preferences/dating preferences, they often turn out to be transphobic in other ways. It's not a matter of "if you won't date/fuck me, you're transphobic," it's more "You hate trans people, therefore you won't date/fuck me, so you're transphobic," if that makes sense.

So I will say that in my short time dating as a cis lesbian, I have run into a few (pre-op) trans women who tried to use the "fall in love with the person not their genitals" argument with me. But as you said, I think this was more just a case of them projecting their definition of lesbian attraction -- one which doesn't necessarily place weight on a person's physiognomy so much as on their gender presentation/identity -- onto me. These women were not bad people, I could tell that much just from talking to them; just young and maybe insecure about their bodies. This is not the same as someone trying to coerce someone into sexual contact with them and I was not afraid of them because of it. I just disagreed and went on my way; I wasn't a "victim" in the slightest.

I'm a straight person so I don't really have a strong, overwhelming desire to participate in queer spaces. Have I been made to feel closed minded for not being interested in women? Absolutely. When you're a polyamorous, sex positive woman, people constantly assume you're bisexual and I have to constantly reinforce that I have zero desire to be with women. It's actually something I talk about quite a bit on this channel. I've had a LOT of conversations about how I need to "try it because maybe I'll like it". Not knowing if someone is LGBT-friendly is always what makes me hesitate about subscribing to people I have never heard of, so now I don't have to worry as much about having to constantly subscribing then turning around and unsubscribing because I found out someone I started watching was actually bigoted.

Ugh, the "terf is a slur" thing...compiling a list of people saying mean things about a certain label does not make that label a slur. It would be quite easy to compile a similar list for the words gay, Christian, trekkie, what have you. If I made a shirt that said "I punch Trekkies" it wouldn't make Trekkie a slur.
Also the whole "not dating trans people is transphobic" thing. I think rejecting an individual trans person who you have met and decided you're not attracted to isn't inherently transphobic. The problem most people (including myself) with the "I don't date trans people" line is that it's often said when nobody asked, and is applied to all trans people. And unpacking the reasoning for that usually leads to either generalizations about trans people (often the assumption that you'd KNOW they were trans just by looking at them with their clothes off) or incorrect assumptions about what dating a trans person is like. Plenty of trans women who have dicks would PREFER their partner not suck it or interact with it at all.

@Akairo Kaminari you can say violence from anyone isn't ok, they're plenty of people who agree with TERF declarations of violence against Trans women, so there are people like me who understand why some people would want to be violent right back to TERFs. as far as i know, only one single person flagging you isn't enough for everyone else who uses the extension to see you as flagged. in my understanding, when someone is being flagged a lot, someone from SE checks out what they're saying and defines whether they'll appear as flagged for everyone or not. so maybe there were multiple people trying to get you flagged, or maybe someone working on SE fucked something up. in any case, if you go to the page where you can get the extension for chrome (even if you're not using chrome), you get the option "contact the developer" if you scroll down a little bit, on the lower right. so maybe that could work better.

Something that really annoys me in the whole "dating trans people" debacle is that all that trans people talk about it is meant to be thought about in a collective sense, like our society as a whole should start questioning the roots of what is the attractive norm, how what is communicated as "acceptable to be attracted to" influence people. But cis people keep deciding to take this matter personally, they keep seeing as an individual attack and it's so fucking tiring.
It also pisses me off that this is like one of the centerpieces of discussion about trans people because the only reason that it is is because cis people sexualize trans people so much.

A few years ago I built my RUclips platform around this whole conversation. It feels yucky in retrospect, but at the time I was hopeful that I was going to be a voice of reason to win over transphobes. I did a minor colab with Arielle. And I was making videos saying the kinds of things she and her crew wanted to hear. But I noticed that instead of working for ways to bring resolution between our communities, she would double-down on the talking points. I noticed that her anti-trans rants were getting tons of views, and her other videos weren't. So if she was going to pay her bills, she needed to post the videos that get the views. She has a vested interest in stoking the drama, and she has no interest in resolving it. And I just thought, I'm done trying to have this conversation because I feel like it will never be in good faith. You can't change someone's mind when their paycheck depends on them not changing.
I see her as a very opportunistic person. I know she mostly does this for money. Her job is very easy. I remember being very frustrated that i tried to reach her and she just doubled down. Such is life

But I was only vocalizing the parts I knew that people like her would agree with, and intentionally remaining silent on the parts I knew they wouldn't. The idea was going to be that once I won over their trust, I could then start to bring them out of their transphobia. But by the time I got to the place where I had earned a voice with them, I was too exhausted from the conversation to keep engaging. Unfortunately that left most people on both sides assuming I lined up with the transphobes.
It would be nice to clear my name with shinigami. But also, I'm just so tired of engaging in transgender discourse anymore. Once I stopped engaging with transphobes, I no longer had to justify my existence, and my life became so much more peaceful. Honestly the most enlightening take I've seen on this was a tumblr post of all things a few years back written by a trans woman where the central message was "having sex with a trans woman will never be the exact same as with a cis man". It was essentially pointing out a lot of ignorance about what sex with a trans woman actually looked like, that it wasn't de facto penetration and blowjobs and how dysphoria and transitioning can also play a significant role. And while that will probably sound obvious to a lot of people, it was new information to many cis lesbians and really brought the conversation back to negotiating the kind of sex you desire and boundaries. If your boundary is that you don't want to interact with a penis and that's also your trans partner's preference, is that still a problem for you? Why have you assumed it would be a problem for her? It leaves space for lesbians who would feel uncomfortable or traumatised around dicks to reject trans partners without expressing transphobia. The problem to me is the transphobic perception that in an intimate space, trans women will remove the mask and show themselves to literally be men underneath - men who only care about forcing themselves on women. While I can't exactly claim experience, the fact that there are so many misconceptions around what a sexual relationship with a trans woman can look like feels central to a lot of the fear and exaggeration. You are always free to express a boundary but you should never assume what someone else wants.

I never have, I’m sure they exist and it could just be bc I tend to hang out with like minded people + the internet is kind of an echo chamber but every trans person I know (self included) doesn’t really care, like the most that anyone has said is that it sucks that their transness can limit their dating pool, but never that anyone has to date them. I’ve seen some tweets and stuff where people do say stuff like this but it’s mostly in anti trans articles so I have to question exactly how wide spread it is.
At the end of the day there are trans people who think like that, but I think it’s more of an issue with a sense of entitlement that some people hold in every community, and not actually representative of a problem with trans people as a whole.

I met a transgirl once who pretty much behaved this way, but she was also clearly mentally ill, so I assume that (and not her transness) was the main factor for her pushiness. Her rant was more along the lines of "I hate when people aren't attracted to me" after being rejected, which comes across more as a bruised ego than a predator- at least in my opinion
The older I get, the more I realized that sexuality is a fluid thing. Anything is possible and the labels only matter is you want them to. At the end of the day. Know what you want, your worth, and who adds value.

I just can't imagine what it must be like to still feel/think/speak that way, when we have amazing minds like you and other trans creators generating the most thought-provoking content/conversations. I remember way back in the day she used to just do more collaborative content surrounding sex "positivity"/education, but she's just fallen off a cliff. She harbors so much negativity/seems to stress herself out and you can honestly see it, physically on her. Part of me is grossed out/angry with her type of TERF dialogue and part of me just feels repulsed pity for her.
No one should be pressured into sex!! lesbian or otherwise, if someone is uncomfortable with certain genitals, that's fine. its not transphobic to say that you'd be uncomfortable having sex with a trans person who hasn't gone through certain surgeries. some things make certain people uncomfortable, and that's ok. boundaries are important. What is transphobia, however, is telling a trans person without those surgeries that because they haven't had them, they're not trans, or they're not valid, or they're a liar for not telling the specifics of their gender and sex.
I'd argue that saying you wouldn't have sex with a trans person _can_ be transphobic depending on context. Rejecting someone based on sexual boundaries? Nothing wrong with that. Talking about sexual boundaries when it comes up in conversation? Totally fine!
Bringing up how unattractive you think someone is when they have never expressed interest in you? Commenting your sexual preferences on an unrelated video or forum? Making rant videos about how you would never date a non-existent member of a certain group? Weird. All of those (by virtue of their being otherwise irrelevant) seem to imply that the very existence of trans people is sexual and puts people around us in danger of sexual assualt.

I really liked Arielle like at the start because there wasn't a lot of out queer women on RUclips, so it was always great watching her videos and getting a perspective as someone who was very closeted at the time. But now it's just so, exhausting. Like I mean I probably stopped watching her in 2010, 2011? I think I was still watching her on and off, but I think the video that kind of landed the nail in the coffin was her video about what lesbians think about bisexual women. While I don't ID as bisexual, I still align myself with bisexual communities and groups because there's no pansexual ones, but it really fucking hurt that that's what a lot of these lesbians think about us, and while she never stated her beliefs outright (aside from saying "you should be able to date who you want to date") from what I've seen she holds some very biphobic views.
And her influence in the queer community dwindled so fast due to her transphobic beliefs. I'm glad that not a lot of people really listen to her anymore, but man.

Im a lesbian and so confused where this conversation is happening because I have never ever been pressured to sleep with trans women - the only pressure i've experienced has been pressure from general society to be straight, like men and like penises
But ive never ever had pressure to like penises from LGBT spaces and especially never from trans people
I feel like lesbians and trans women actually have a lot more in common than people realise and I relate to straight trans women, more than straight cis women, as trans women and lesbians are both painted as predatory and excluded from womanhood / compared to men often (obviously trans women experience this much more prevalently) so I find trans women and lesbians alike (and trans lesbians especially) to be OVERLY cautious with boundaries and making sure everyone's comfortable

Been using shinigami eyes for a long time now. always afraid to tell people publicly about it because it's a community tagging tool and therefore susceptible to abuse. But so far i've never seen it be wrong.
@@borednerd5767 you should still double check anything tagged though, especially on social media like tumblr and twitter. i haven't seen many cases of this, but i have seen cases of people being wrongfully tagged as transphobic/anti-trans, enough that i take a few seconds to check before blocking.

The "study" she referenced not only had a very small sample size--it equated feeling social pressure because of people online saying "trans women are women" with trans women coercing them to have sex with them. There's all kinds of other issues with the article and the study it was based on.
Recently I had an omni person trying to tell me that I wasn't bi but either poly/omni/pan because "BI MEANS TWO". Then went on a rant about how most bi people are pan/omni/poly but "it requires understanding there are more than 2 genders" pretty much implying I'm transphobic to enby people. Yea the defining sexuality thing really hit me
bi indeed means two... as in you like two genders, not as in you believe there is only two genders. completely different.
I had a pansexual jump on me once on the whispers app and made weird assumptions about how I approach people because I mentioned having attractions for transgender women. I thought it was strange because pansexual is so inclusive of transgender people.

Hey Kat, loved this throwback! I remember Arielle as being one of the first lesbian YTers I found when I was a teen discovering myself, and even at 14 I started to sense a real feeling of judgement and anger for other members of her community and stopped watching.
This was such an interesting video because as I think you rightly pointed out, even though some of the tweets on that (terribly named) website were maybe not a great approach, but even given the most open minded reading, none of them could be this "proof" that Arielle claimed of "hundreds and thousands" of lesbians being pressured into sex with trans women. In my own opnion, most of them had very few likes and were clearly tweeted into the void with anger and frustration. A pretty fair reaction to the real physical harm that TERFS are doing, although occasionally cringey and maybe unhelpful.
I remember when other Black lesbian creators made content with her too but omits mostly been removed. It’s wild to see how she just took off her mask almost overnight lmfao

i remember when i first started interacting with lesbian/queer internet spheres, back in maybe 2015? she did lots of collabs with others, but i remember there was always something off about the her stuff. if i recall correctly there were discussions already back then about her not having the best opinions and expressing them in her content. the biggest red flag at the time was her hatred for bisexuals and subscribing to the idea of 'gold star lesbians'. if you remember that, her coming out as a transphobe isnt that surprising...

I remember I happened to subscribe to Arielle right before she started really diving deep into the transphobia. Once I realized what she was about, I unsubbed and just kinda moved on. I was surprised when about...what was it, a year ago?...she popped up on Twitter claiming to be the "most hated lesbian" on the internet. I was like "I literally haven't thought about you in years. Wtf?"

I'm ttand and I agree. If I were to sit down and have a conversation with someone and they said they weren't interested I'd be ok with that! Rejection is natural and fine. The real problem is that no trans person should fear for their life when they reveal they are trans.
You also shouldn't feel stuck dating with someone if you know it's not gonna last. Its a horrible feeling and drawing those things out only lead to a far worse experience
i think it matters way more how a person treats real trans people, or the "idea" on transness, than whether or not they want to sleep with specific trans people. and HOW they word their opinions obviously.
I think that's the point though. Saying "I don't date trans people" as if they all are the same is not the same as saying "I don't want to date you."
This is a great video. You really picked apart her argument, and I appreciate what you said about sexual and dating preferences. It's a complex issue but at the end of the day, don't waste your time on people who simply aren't interested in you. Sexuality *is* personal, and you *don't* get to define what it means for someone else..And it's okay for some people not to be attracted to you, regardless of your gender identity or body parts. You just need to find someone who is attracted to you

Its a bit off topic and also pretty late, but I find it very interesting and helpful how you describe having a history with someone you deeply dislike and at the same time feeling sorry for them. They wronged you and you dont want them to be in your life, but you can see how they ultimatively sabotage themselves with their behaviour and you feel bad for that. Its such a weird and confusing feeling, especially when they actively hurt you.
As a WLW who has dated trans women most of what I’ve personally experienced has been a hesitation to even express attraction to me for fear of making me uncomfortable. Like their transness is some weapon that they have to show me isn’t loaded. It’s horrible.
People treat other people badly and pressure them and it’s a problem, I get it. Consent is a concept not all people grasp. But, I think that people like A.S. aren’t fully understanding the damage they’re doing to these women in choosing this specific topic as their crusade. Trans women aren’t predators just because you see them as adjacent to men.
Not being attracted to trans women is personal, and you should probably keep it to yourself when it isn’t relevant. Characterizing large swaths of an oppressed group this way is not the same thing. It’s bigoted.
I do think it's important to think about the way transphobia colors our thoughts, opinions, and actions, but regardless of whether or not a willingness to sleep with someone is a part of that the fact is they're not comfortable sleeping with a trans person, and regardless of the reason I know that I, personally, would never want to have sex with someone not fully comfortable and willing and happy to have sex with me, and I'd never want to have sex with someone I'm not fully comfortable with. Even if (I want to emphasize "if" here) being raised in a transphobic society plays a part, that doesn't mean that it always plays a part, and they're are plenty of transphobes that are happy to have sex with trans people so the issue is obviously more nuanced and complex than "if you don't want to sleep with trans people you're a transphobe." At the end of the day, I don't want to have sex with someone that doesn't want to have sex with me, regardless of why.
If we really want to talk about how transness affects attraction and sexual actions, while we do need to talk about how society has labelled attraction to trans people as taboo, we also need to talk about the fetishization of trans people (especially trans women) and the ways in which people don't want to publically be seen as a partner of a trans person, among others. This issue is more nuanced than many people pretend it is in multiple different directions, and considering that the issue affects trans people so much reducing it to pointing fingers at people and calling them transphobes does the people who do that (and the entire community) a disservice.

Where I start considering people transphobic is when the relationship is going great and then the cis person finds out their partner is trans and suddenly there's a problem. Like at that point, they definitely need to look into themselves to think why suddenly you can't be with your partner anymore. I can ~kinda~ understand being lied to but what about people wanting to just protect themselves or just thinking I've lived as a woman for so long that it's honestly just not on their mind?
