When certain retro games became very expensive (long before covid) I started getting into emulation. Eventually this brought me to rom hacking and looking at source code of games in general. Will always love collecting physical copies of games but at the very heart of gaming is the code itself.

I agree, it's easier to have complete sets in digital format. I'm sure you already know but in case you don't.

@@benjaminway5699 love having physical for the controller and original feel. A lot of games I'm talking about are Neo Geo or TG16/PC Engine games. There are companies out there that make pretty good reproductions of these console controllers that connect to your computer. But also a lot of these games benefit from an arcade stick anyways.

Yes, and it seems like gamers never put up a fight because the distributors spun this as a "convenience" for gamers. I feel like gamers are starting to wisen up, but not sure if they will really push back and buy digital to make it clearer to companies what they will or wont stand for.

I'm an older gamer. Started as a kid in the 70's with a Mark III my dad had bought. We later graduated to the 2600 and since my dad was a hardcore gamer and still is, we had plenty of games in the house. Throughout my childhood I played TONS of games on a huge variety of systems. Back then, all games were physical because the internet was nothing like it is today. Even as an adult I always bought a lot of games for any system I owned at the time. When digital games came around it simply was a way to grow my collection even more. Today though I keep hearing about the death of physical media and although they have been saying this for probably about a decade now, the evidence definitely points to most media becoming all digital. Now I pretty much try to buy all my games physical not because of future value, but because I like to play the game I want to play on the original system without spending a small fortune to do so. Not that I mind digital, just a literal old school gamer who grew up surrounded by tons of physical media. Its what I know and love.

Physical Media is so so important, recently after Crunchyroll brought FUNimation they closing down the FUNimation app and nuking any digital copies of Anime brought on that app meaning various english dubs and legal copies of the japanese dub are going to vanish into the void because of no Physical Release, also from what I heard there is also distributers who are being asked to destroy any physical FUNimation media too meaning a lot of the Physical Releases are being destroyed, this is just a constant amongst apps losing stuff forever and forcing people to Pirate media, PC was the first to start this trend when it went all digital and now it's become an absolute nightmare through Music, TV/Film and Games, we need to urgently U-Turn on an all digital future otherwise this will keep happening

Look at what happened with the PlayStation and the WB Discovery fiasco. All that money wasted to get Digital and they just shut it all down, even for re-downloading them, all because the two companies couldn't come to an agreement. They have no idea what they are in for.

I have always been and I always be a part of "Team Physical." With "Digital" media you can run into several problems that could possibly prevent you from playing. One problem that I can think of is that the online store can shut down or delist the game. Another problem that I can think of is that your hard drive for your console can crash and you lose all of your saved data and games. By using physical media and taking care of the discs/cartridges, you will always have your favorite game(s) at your fingertips.

Physical games doesn’t last for long either because most of the time you have to download the update patches to have the full experience, let alone DLC. They also degrade too and Pokémon games are the best example.

@@therealjaystone2344 Your comment is devoid of logic. Physical games can be played without the update patches and DLC. Also, patches and DLC can be applied as long as the game is available online. I get the idea of physical vs digital. Sure digital is convenient, but with games being delisted, digital storefronts closing and even recent news about digital items you have in your library being removed for rights or other reasons.
When the PS3/PSVita/PSP storefronts were closing (even though at that time the PSP store was really dead anyway), it started my need to buy more physical media that I haven’t done in a very long time. Then the eShop closes for the Wii U/3DS which accelerated my purchasing of physical games.
As it shows, my wife and I are physical media consumers if we can get it that way otherwise buying digital if it is only there is fine (yet I would rather buy that on a sale) since there are good digital only games to play like Gunman Clive and many others I cannot name.

    • @b4rs629
      @b4rs629 5 месяцев назад

I'm pro physical as well, but I also realized that some games are just meant to be online for multi-player reasons.
I'm glad as kid I realized that early on. The only game I bought digitally on a console was Super Mario Bro's on the OG Wii. I then transitioned to pc for Blizzard games & other MMORPG's and around that time from 2010-16 the discs became useless. For multi-player games it makes sense for it to be 100% digital.
My problem with modern gaming is when they take what is essentially a single player game experience and require you to be online just to play it.
It's when they make single player games that require always online or an account that is the main problem.
Diablo 3 - required online connectivity just to play - on launch nothing, but log in errors.
Games like Diablo 4 is mainly a solo experience, but it can only be played with others online & it requires you to create & connect your blizzard account to it just to log in and be able to play.
Simcity 2013 when it released... was made to encourage an multi-player experience, but on launch log in errors. If you wanted to play single player - nope you need to be online.
While I can appreciate them doing something new to innovate the franchise. The part they fucked up with not allowing us to play offline for single player & not giving us larger city map sizes. It took them 6 months to give us an offline mode after community backlash.
If they made games 100% without online features people would be more likely buy them physically.
If you look at the most mainstream popular games of today it's Call of Duty, Fornite, League of Legends, Minecraft, Pub G, Valorant, Roblox, Counter-stike: GO
Games like Forza 4 is a single player experience, but you need to sub if you want to play online or if you want to buy any extra content it's only available online.
They are all multi-player experiences that require online connectivity.
Cyberpunk 2077 & Sims 4 though are single player experiences as well, but to get the full experience you need to buy the dlc which is digital only. They don't require an internet connection, but if you want to buy something for new content you need to do it online.
I still support physical media when given the opportunity to own it physically. Whether it be 4k movies or a console game that doesn't require online connection.
Which leads me to only buying physical games for my switch even if they're available for pc.

Team Physical. Easily. I grew up in the NES and SNES era. The funny thing is that my NES and SNES games still work and are still just as fun. What I worry about with digital is that in 25-30 years, all the games that are digital only, or part of the “all digital future” won’t even be playable because the servers are gone, or the store is closed down. Additionally, I don’t like where the digital future leads: More games via subscriptions (even single player games), pay per hour gaming (started being talked about by some gaming execs), and we the consumers having no ownership over what we purchase. Keep buying physical, y’all. Keep gaming as we know it and knew it alive.

Physical media and theres still a market for it I buy a lot of movies on blu ray and one thing ive noticed is since some stores like Best Buy and target having very little movies they sell out at other stores the day the movie is released on blu ray the only bad thing when it comes to games is if I want a game and its $70 at gamestop and $45-50 on the Playstation store I do end up buying it off there and with the new Playstation rewards on the app I do end up getting $20 back a lot with those points

Physical media i collect so much but never liked disc game (i still own a lot) because of scratches disc rot ect and the consoles disc drives weaning out and lasers dying so im happy for mods and emulators that still let us enjoy the games

You can extract game data from disc games pretty easily if you know how to poke around. People say that disc media has a shelf life but I have pretty well preserved music CDs from the mid 80s that have not deteriorated at all. I guess only time will tell.

Physical media is definitely the way to go for this reason. The stranglehold digital media will take with the dwindling of physical is going to be massive. I hope there’s a resurgence and it gains traction again.

Team physical media for me. I started gaming at 3, with the NES. Then got a couple GBA systems. Then my first big console was the PlayStation 1. Moved on up to ps3. And now I just collect and play a little bit of everything. I like to have the physical copy in my hands cause if your system ever screws up or if someone hacks your account, you could lose your games or full account. If you have the disc or cartridge, you can play it whenever you want, and never lose it unless you sell it.

Yeah I have two games I just downloaded from my Xbox. Cheaper too than physical games. I personally don’t care if I have a physical copy of a game. Saves shelf space & is cheaper.

When it comes to games. I'm team digital media. Movies, Music, and Books I still believe those should stay in physical media. I believe games should still come out in physical media, but every game will go OPP. I'm not really into spending extra money on OOP games, I'd rather emulate than have to spend hundreds more than MSRP to play a game. Now if its in print, I'll always buy what I can. My collection are a mix of both. But if I wanna go back, I'm not gonna miss paying a bill vs playing a retro game.

I'm team physical media 99% of the time. The only time I'm NOT team physical media is if the Switch eShop has a great deal on a game, but I refuse to spend over $20-$25 on a digital game.

Shirt vintage petina... haha. I am entirely team physical media. I understand the ease of having stuff digital, and I have stuff digital in Steam, but having the physical copy of the game will always trump a virtual copy. Having the ability to play it when I want, no matter what (internet outage, Steam going under one day.) is important. Also, having the ability to loan, trade, or sell my copy is important to me as well.

I love having physical games but nowadays especially on Xbox and Playstation alot of disc are basically just keys to allow a huge download to occur to play the game. In the future will these discs even be playable I wonder.

I get the nostalgia for games and physical copies but game stores are going to be like blockbuster. I'd rather not leave the house and not deal with people. Hard to compete with convince and being cheaper to play.

The digital download is not worth buying. 1' it's not worth anything 2' if someone steals your account then you lost everything you payed for so in reality it's not 🚫 worth it in the long run period.

Digital media is why I gave up on gaming consoles everything has to be connected online the best of both worlds was ps3
    RIP fun gaming
now people just live on games and updates its a total time waste to me I’d rather play a nes than any of this new crap
