  • It’s Who-Time!
    Today we’re talking custom Doctor Who figures: I’ll give you some tips/advice on how to make them plus alternative options if you’re less keen on customising yourself but still want to build your collection.
    In short, it comes down to 2 categories: DIY or Buy. DIY involves kit/figure bashing, tooling, milliput and 3D prints. Buy simply entails buying customs off people who create them. I have a few recommendations.

    Great stuff! I also keep any 'props' that come with similar scale figures - a lot of Japanese 'Artificial Human' type figures often come with spare limbs, and little greeblies like cell phones, tablets, and laptops. Scratch building gadgets (the sort that go 'ding!' when there's stuff) for 5.5" figures, is also fun. Having seen the pictures you showed, I'm sorely tempted to order some Voord and Sensorite figures. Rightly or wrongly, I always thought these guys were cool. I mean, if anything sinister were to be found hiding under a bed - it would be a Voord. Even the name is unsettling. Also, I always loved the story 'The Fishmen Of Kandalinga' from the first Doctor Who annual. It's short, clever, and creepy, and (Very) possibly written by David Whitaker.

    Clever boy, I love your figures. I have almost every figure released since the line started back in the mid 2000s. I want a Sarah Jane with her Namby Pamby outfit. Super jealous of your Yeti. You are talented.

    this is just whats needed, and i just found it ,,your done a great job on this one so interesting ,accouple of the links did not seam to lead were there meant ,but maybe just a bad day,
    i do have a few i need to remove the heads from but how do i tell what type each one is ? Harry, gelth zombie,and a silurain if yourself or someone else is able to help out
    would be very much appreciated

    • @who-time
      @who-time  6 месяцев назад

      Thanks for watching. I've now updated the broken links; the video is 3 years old after all! You can tell which head type it is by simply pulling on the head and seeing what happens. If you see a peg appear under the neck or if it pops off, then you know there's a body peg that the head plugs onto. If it feels tough to get off and you can see an extended narrower bit of neck, then you know the head has a plug at its base. Off the top of my head, the Gelth has a plug at the base of its head, Harry doesn't and plugs onto the peg on the body. Not sure on the Silurian.

    Great video, very informative! I've been having trouble separating the torso from the legs, is there a trick to it or do you just pull and hope nothing breaks? Thanks!

    • @who-time
      @who-time  4 года назад

      That’s a tricky part. Unfortunately, it’s not a simple boil and pull out. You’ll need to separate the front and back parts of torso section; prise them open with a Stanley knife. The difficulty is doing this without damaging other parts of the figure that you need. If you need pics, message me on Twitter.

    Great tips and food for thought - any advice on the best glues to use? Plastic-friendly super glue or an epoxy-based glue?

    • @who-time
      @who-time  2 года назад

      Not an expert on glue. Usually I just use various versions of Loctite super glue. Gorilla epoxy resin glue I use for tougher job but that's more for props and costumes.

    Any advice for someone looking to start their collection? Would I be better off buying official stuff first and maybe do a custom figure purchase once a month or so once it starts building up? (I’m useless when it comes to art so there is no way in hell I’ll be trusting myself with custom on my own)

    how much would it cost to have a yeti 3d printed?

    • @who-time
      @who-time  4 года назад

      It was £50 for me a year ago but it may have changed. Also depends on the amount of fill you want (i.e. how thick the plastic is). Probably, best to get quotes from a number of companies.
