- Melody in F, op.3 no.1, composed in 1852(?), dedicated to Grand Duchess Pawlowna.
Anton Rubinstein's Melody in F has a companion piece, the Melody in B, op.3 no.2; the two were meant to be played together, but the B major piece was never as popular as the F major one.
While these pieces were marked as op.3, they actually were written later than the designation suggests, coming after the op.29 Two Funeral Marches.

Thank you so much for posting this! I recently acquired an (incomplete) set of antique music books published by The University Society and this piece opens Volume 2.
(Subsequent editions dropped the piece so it does not appear in the later printings of The International Library of Piano Music which included recordings of the pieces.)
One of the greatest melodies ever.
I totally agree
This beautiful song brings me lovely memories. And Cherkasski play it beautifully.
My sweet late mother played this piece. This recording is bringing back lovely memories.
believe it or not this little beauty is really hard to play!
Indeed it is!
Playing like this is insane. The control is insane!
Rubinstein himself is a piano virtuoso.
How do you guys do it? I can't get the melody to sing!
@@stuckupcurlyguy really think of the melody, think of it like you'd sing it. Try to express the melody itself. You can even sing it, to really know how it sounds. It'll come through
a masterpiece! The piano version is brilliant, and the violin one as well. Great composition Rubinstein! :)
Grandioso maestro RIP or enjoy wherever you spirit is.
Rubenstein - Tchaikovsky - Tanyev - Nikolaev - Liberman - my teacher - me..
Awakened to this charming piece on KUSC this morning and thought, “I’ve heard this before, maybe it was in an accompaniment to some silent movie.” Nope. Barney sings:
“Welcome sweet springtime,
We greet thee in song.
Murmurs of gladness,
Fall on the ear.”
Even our rural sitcoms had culture.
Outstanding this beautifully played melody, this music relaxes the brains and greases human contacts.
19世紀の高い香りを残す巨匠チェルカスキー。すばらしい演奏。
Der Schlittschuhläufer
Thank you so much
Wonderful! Love this interpretation. ♥️ Too bad this older recording is not available in better sound quality. Thanks for sharing.
Cherkassky is unbeatable in this sort of repertoire. Actually the piece always feel one repeat too long and a pity Godovsky didn't spice it up with his own version
That’s why most transcriptions for cello, etc. shorten it.
I have been waiting for someone to post this recording, although the one that I listened to before was recorded in the 80's.
Thanks for posting.
A title of deceptive simplicity for this miniature of exquisite beauty, written by the best pianist of the 19th century Russia
@Rising star Anton Rubenstein the composer of this piece was Russian. You're thinking of Arthur Rubenstein who was indeed Polish.
@@monkface Composer Anton Rubenstein was also a great pianist. A "Russian" born in Moldova.
Beautiful
sarà pure musica invecchiata, ma eseguita a questo livello...
i always used to play this when I was kid, now i completely forgot 😔
自作にして名演奏ですね。

Corny salon morceau, played marvelously by one of the classiest practitioners ever.
We'll Meet Again - but the original !
Man, when I heard this piece, I was sure it's We'll meet again. Then I found out it's a standalone. Happy to see that I'm not the only one that made the connection.
