  • Can we find 75 species of birds in Nosara in a single day?
🐦 Check out our collection of beautiful bird shirts at jabiru-clothin...
The beach town of Nosara in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, may be more popular among beach-goers than about birders, but if you're already here as part of a family vacation you might as well try to find some birds!
So, I've followed up on the crazy idea of doing a Big Day of Birding in Nosara, trying to find as many species as possible. Since I have no idea where to look for owls here (previous lackluster attempts have failed), I started out at Ostionalito at 5:45am. Lured there by some past eBird checklists, I was hoping for this strategy to pay off. Did it? Find out in the video :)
By the way... Holy moly, was this a lot of work in the edit!
Planning to go to Nosara? Let me know in the comments and I'll be happy to share my thought on the area :)

Thanks for the feedback! It's definitely something I can't do all the time but even while editing I felt it might be more immersive. Looking forward to trying something similar again soon, maybe for Global Big Day?

This was fun! I hope you'll do it again, maybe when you get a grip on night-birds, so you can use the dark hours a bit? Maybe regrouping the birding spots when you know them better? So much planning involved, and the high temperature hours sure needs to be avoided if possible!

Thanks so much- I’m glad you enjoyed it 😊
Absolutely am planning to do it again but I might need to wait for the next migration season. By that time I’ll hopefully at least have an idea of the night birds too!

Really cool one this time and look...you got it! Congrats to 75 species. That's so nice! Seems also, that the area has much to offer, no matter what season. Looking foreward to the next exciting/entertaining/informative video. Happy birding and a very happy semana santa! Pura Vida

Thanks! It wasn’t my finest day but an exciting one for sure 😅
Really looking forward to rainy season, I’m curious as to what will happen with my favorite spots then! Pura vida 🙂

    Thats great!!!
You definitely should come to Colombia where its super easy to see 120+ species in a single day.

Thank you! I really hope to go birding Colombia some day soon! Any recommendations? The Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta is a region that I'm really curious about. I've been in the area once before but sadly not for birdwatching...
Birding in Costa Rica can also be much more productive, but the beach towns are definitely not the best places ;)
