Hi John - when I click the link I end up with a "We're sorry, something went wrong. Please try again." message and a listing for a similar guitar: "Gretsch G2420t Streamliner Hollow Body With Bigsby Flagstaff Sunset". Might just be me, but I thought it was worth pointing out.
Hi John. Great job, great reviews I always wanted a Gretsch because I love rock and roll. Buying it is an enormous economic sacrifice and I think that I will only be able to afford the 2420t. Is it worth it? Does it have the Gretsch sound or I should wait till I can buy a more expensive one. Thanks for your time. Best wishes!
I've had the G2622T in Torino Green for about 6 months and it is wonderful to play with a superb finish. I did change the pickups as I found them too much like general humbuckers, for Filtertron type pickups and the sound is now more like a rockabilly Gretsch. Ypu can't beat them for the price.
And a big thanks for entertaining us !! Yes lovely guitar. I was a few months ago in my local guitar shop and noticed these guitars. Not really a Gretsch kinda guy but the walnut coloured one was the one that caught my eye. So yeah i had to pick it up ! And of cause didnt want to put it down again. When funds allow or when I sell couple guitars i dont use that much then i will for sure get one !!
Not only but a consideration. John likes a pretty distorted rockabilly tone, more than I. I just wonder if it isn't too dark for cleaner rockabilly. I may have to go to the G5230T, in the same price range but Filtertron pickups.
For my style of play , they feed back as a semi-hollowed DAYDREAM . BBUUTT >>Can quickly turn nightmare with outta control . ONLY one remedy . Practice time . AT VOLUME . LOVE from CANADA , Sir John .
Thanks John for everything you upload on RUclips.Like you always dreamed about owning a rockabilly big boy. My birthday soon so I defo will look out on ebay. Keep up the good work you are doing for Zoe’s Place...
These are pretty amazing, I had a Mk1 with the square block inlays and it was really impressive, even against a 6120. I like the new Riviera Blue version so I hope to get one even though I have a Fairlane Blue 5420T. Both of these guitars are worth upgrading, I put a B6C Gretsch USA Bigsby on my 5420T and that made it much better, also fitted a Vanson roller saddle tunamatic too. I like the 2420T as it has a really nice Gretsch headstock inlay, like the original 50's Streamliners. The 5420T in blue I have seen for over 900 quid, so these do represent great value, plus I like the way the neck is blended to the side of the cutaway so there is no step like you get on the 5420 and 6120 etc. These guitars just blow a hole in the arch top market under 500 quid plus it a real Gretsch! Nice review.
Nice guitar! I like new guitars much more than the former G2420, there were ugly narrow f-holes, now it really looks like Gretsch! For models G2420T color Golddust in my opinion the best of them, but I am very like the color at the Village Amber G2420 ..... Gentlemen Prefer Blondes ...True, we in Russia say that there are no comrades to taste and color. Damn, I will definitely buy it !
Very Cool, Thankyou. Found this very interesting, informative and Entertaining. I Have a couple of Gretsch Electromatics, a G5215 and a G5248T, Love them both but they have very different personalities. You may have convinced to check out The Streamliner G2420T, Cheers.
A lad had one of those near me growing up. I visited his house once on the way to a party while he was getting ready and nobody was allowed to touch his guitar. Not surprising since most of our posse looked like members of Guns and Roses and I was a punky grebo. My mate Kev talked him into letting me play it because I'd been playing some rock and roll on another friends Les Paul clone just 20 mins before. I was blown away by this kitschy thing with gold hardware and he was blown away that somebody else liked rockabilly in about 1990 :)
Hello Rich! I just ordered mine, its on its way.. then I started having doubts, is the G2622 better, because of the centre block? is the floating bridge strong , hope it doesnt cause any damage... Thanks for your kind advise.
@@obhikthepencilsharpeners2482 The center block produces a somewhat compressed sound, The top, and the entire guitar, very strong. Hope you are enjoying the guitar.
Thanks for the video John. I will get a hollow or semi hollow body someday. I've had my eye on the Streamliners for a long time! You confirmed my thoughts that they are another great value!
Hi John I've got the 5224 with dearmond pickups and a 5220 with filtertron pickups fitted out of a chet atchins guitar I also have the vintage vsa 850 which is a Google substitute as all have bigsbys still wish I could play as good as you John keep up the good work.
Woow.. that's a nice guitar John ! Fits you perfectly.. big lad.. big guitar. Like the sound also, altough i'm not such a fan of Rockabilly, but more the filtertron style lower output mic's lover. But than nobody says you have to play Rockabilly on it. Serves perfectly for Blues and regular rock too. I wasn"t even aware that Gretch had guitars in this pricerange. Strange they don"t have these in orange like the Chet Atkins one. Always black and red mainly.. but i would like this one instead too.. Strange guitar altough.. 1mm longer than the Gibson scale, but 12" radius. Thought first this would be neck heavy, but it's a big body and the Bigsby adds some weight in too. I'll think this will not exceed the 10 pound in weight. Wich i could buy it now, .. to many bills now.. let's start with buying your course first.for now. Cheers pall !
I used to have a Streamliner Jnr and it was absolutely flawless, so build quality would seem to be consistent across the range. I would totally recommend them--in fact I shall probably get another one myself!
That’s the guitar I’m going to be purchasing soon! I’m barely starting out although I do have some playing knowledge. I’m very impressed with how you play! What advice would you give a novice such as myself? How can I play like you do? How much time will it take to get good with a good amount of practice and what’s the best way to get some good lessons?
Hi John . I really enjoy your reviews. If you don’t mind . As I would like to buy one of these guitars . I like to ask . How long ego was this review made ??

A couple of years ago I was all set to buy one of these, I'd been saving up for ages and had finally got the money in my account and was about to pull the trigger.....then as I was looking on ebay I saw an even better looking G5126T, which is roughly the same kind of size & shape except that it had an even more stunning silver flake finish, and instead of the Broadtron humbuckers it had the single coil DeArmond Dynasonic type pickups. I hadn't got a guitar at the time that'd got single coils, and the DeArmond pickups were a bit more like the traditional sounding Gretsch that I wanted, along with the gorgeous silver flake finish, the case, upgrades and extras that the seller was including..... and the fact that the 5126 had been discontinued and no longer available, AND that this guitar I was looking at was in excellent, nigh on mint condition, I decided to spend a bit more and buy the Electromatic range silver sparkle G5126 for about £600 and sadly I must add, let the gold dust G2420T pass me by. Streamliners, they're bloody great guitars for £400, if you shop around you can find them a bit cheaper, the cheapest I've seen them selling for is roughly £386 and that's an amazingly good price for a proper Gretsch. I had never owned, or even played a Gretsch before I bought my 5126 and I feel like I've missed out by not playing one until I was 45. Now, Gretsch guitars are my favourite guitars and in my opinion are the best, and classiest looking guitars that money can buy. After studying them for the last couple of years, I've decided that my dream guitar is a Gretsch Penguin in Cadillac Green and with gold hardware, and if, in the unlikely event that I ever have £2700 spare to spend on a guitar, then the Cadillac Green Gretsch Penguin it'll be. Although if I have some spare cash when this goes on ebay I will be very tempted, you'll have to let me know when this goes on ebay mate so I can have a butchers 😉

You said the 80's rockabilly era -- don't you mean the failed American counter invasion. The Americans had launched their own sea invasion back in the 50's but got dflocked by the American public in 1959 while still at sea like on a slow boat to china. In the mean time the British launched their air invasion with flying bugs, hurling stones, Zephyrs, and blues birds. Finally, the American ships landed late 1970's hated by Americans.
The 1950's were America's Rockabilly era. But both Britain and America ousted and silenced people associated with the genre by 1959 -- some rockabilly stars were probably mudered. Rock-n-roll (minus its Rockabilly roots), however, was resurrected 4 or 5 years later in America during the 1960's mostly due to the British (music) invasion by the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Yardbirds, Animals, Hollies, ... dozens of groups. Finally, after another 10 or 15 years the Stray Cats (an American group) resurrected Rockabilly itself in Europe in the 1980's but not so much in America (outside their own success). So, the Stray Cats was the best counter (music) invasion of Europe that America could pull off.
@@whimpypatrol5503You're a little off your rocker mate lol.
