  • When you are a lifelong birder like us, you undoubtedly end up with feeders out in your backyard for years on end. For many of us, birding is a lifetime pursuit and one that comes with all the benefits of being connected to nature and our birds on a daily basis.
In what should come as no surprise to any of us is the fact that over time and continued exposure to the elements, our bird feeders can get a little weathered and every now and then, are in need of some repair.
As one of our most popular models, our Squirrel Buster bird feeders are among the highest quality feeders on the market and can easily be upgraded with new parts over time. With that in mind, we wanted to walk you through the replacement process and highlight some of the most common parts that can be replaced to give your 5 or 10-year-old feeder some new life.

I have four SB Plus feeders and two SB peanut feeders. Two of the SB Plus have been in continuous use some 15-20 years, year round in Nova Scotia. They are fine. The two other SB Plus feeders are about 10 years old as are the two peanut feeders. These have all required replacement parts due to periodic bear maulings.
None of these are truly squirrel-proof. I have small red squirrels here as well as chipmunks. Even with the spring mech. set to its most sensitive position, these critters are able to feed. So, while these are well-made feeders, they really have not lived up to their raison d'etre. In winter, with the rodents (and bears!) in hibernation, they are fine but I've declared surrender to the furries otherwise.

Hi Brenda, we carry a full inventory of parts, are you located close to our store here in Almonte Ontario? Come in and I’ll give you one. Or contact Brome, at bromebirdcare.com and they will send you one. Thanks , Bob

When my SB feeders were mauled by a bear, I called Brome and they sent me the required parts. No charge. Not many companies do that!
