USC spirit of Troy & conquest makes it sound like the Romans are coming 😂
USC: It may have been mic placement, but there were a few times were it seemed like they were "cranking" a little too hard and overpowered the mic which was unfortunate. I didn't much care for all the trumpet hangovers - but trumpet players always feel like they need to do that...
The arrangement of "Kids" is always a classic. Their twirler and the Song Girls were fantastic as always.
UL: You can tell why their cheer and dance teams have been to Nationals multiple times over the last several years; they were in sync with each other and it just looks really good.
I also think UL's band had a better balance top to bottom than USC - but this could just be a combination of where the mic was in relation to the bands. UL's flag line looked much better than USC in terms of sync with each other when they were spinning.
Also, shoutout to the USC mellos - that feature on the last tune was solid!
I was closer to USC, but I will tell you they were bigger and louder than UL. Both did excellent and entertained the large crowd! I tried moving to balance the sound a bit between both bands but as you can see from the video, it was nearly impossible to do this. Thanks for your input and for watching.

@@Music213 its always difficult to find a "sweet spot" when you're trying to film two ensembles and in a large crowd. One of the things I always enjoy about your videos is there always seems to be a lot of thought put into where you're filming from in order to both highlight the sound of the bands while also showcasing the visual part of the performance! :)
The point wasn’t to sound musical, but to be loud. It’s a “battle.” The kids were hyped and of course the Trumpets have to always hang over. They did play hard and loud and that’s the point. Balance? It’s a battle.
May I ask what video and audio setup do you use? Any specific microphone do you use? You get great audio. Monopod for your high shots?

Can’t say if they do every year, but I imagine they do.
The holiday bowl in San Diego always has a battle of the bands every year, but it's between whichever two schools are playing that year.
