J-Star-Roar Yes, it is about time to retire the penny, and has been for a while now. By the time they get around to it, it'll probably be time to retire the 2p and 5p pieces as well. (Wait, it's time for that already. I must have meant the 10p pieces.)
I'm obviously late to the party on this one, but I didn't realize that Brady Haran was responsible for over half the RUclips content out there. From this we can infer that he is either a robot or quite possibly being sustained by cocaine alone. Either way, thanks for all the hard work, Brady.
+Conor Kinsella (SilentEire) I recall Brady mentioning Keith's great penchant for puns in an earlier video so I think he enjoyed them long before he even met Brady. As well he should. It is a sign of intelligence and love of language as far as I'm concerned =)
+Dominic Ransom hard as nail is not about strength... and even it was, there's no way I am going to be the one to force a lock too hard and break it.... Keith can have that one! :)
Objectivity Can't say I would blame you one bit for being gentle with things as a guest. If an employee breaks stuff as part of their job, well, that is just a hazard of the job. If a guest is breaking things... Well then maybe it would be time to consider different guests.
Objectivity ok ill let you have that one - i cant say i would be too fond of going to open something and the lock or the key breaks either. it just amused me slightly that you passed it on to Keith like you were trying to open a stubborn jar, failed and passed it on to someone who could. I am glad you didnt break it Brady otherwise we might not have more videos from inside the society I am intrigued though as to see the technology behind such a mechanism and how it would work. would the RS be able/in a position to dismantle one of the locks to see the construction of the mechanism inside? or is it something that would have to be broken/damaged in order to view such a thing?
This was a triumph! I'm making a note here: Huge success! It's hard to overstate my satisfaction. Objectivity: We do what we must because we can For the good of all of us. Ok, enough silliness, but I do very much enjoy this channel, so thank you for all you do Brady and Co.
2348 - A treasure chest is found inside the rubble of what appears to be a museum. There's not much inside, but surprisingly enough, not only were there several half-pennies of the 18th and 19th century inside, but also a pence from 2014. The reason for this is unknown to this day.
TheSolazene I'm betting that Grey would also mispronounce halfpenny. It was called a ha'penny (like hayp nee) not a "half penny" as these whippersnappers seem to think.
@@rin_etoware_2989 maybe. But LPL's experience seems to mostly be oriented around much more modern locks, which presumably are just... different. Either way, I'd love to see LPL take a crack at it, and even if it took some time (I have little doubt that he'd get there, just uncertainty about how quickly), hear what he had to say about it.
I've been watching this channel since the first video (I've been a follower of all that is Brady for years after all) but I never commented. I feel the motivation to do so now because these days I'm reading a series of novels (The Baroque Cycle by Neal Stephenson) that, value of the books themselves aside, interest me the most because they are mostly set around the Royal Society since the days of its foundation to well into the XVIII century. It's of course fictionalized and there are many made up characters, but it's still interesting to read about the Royal Society of old and its first members, and then coming back to reality to realize that it's still there, alive and kicking.
Keith; polite, well-spoken, utterly knowledgeable, looks like the *right* kind of slightly-nutty professor, and now the macho strong guy of the team as well? I really like Brady a lot, but you'd expect that; his appeal is part of why he's there and what he does. But Imo, Keith is just so effortlessly charismatic that every video amazes me more.
Returning from the tour video to rewatch this masterpiece with a reminder you still need to get into that other section without the key! also i dont know how i missed the cheque joke the first time around but i almost died laughing just now - thank you keith
That was delightful. I really hope you guys do get a locksmith for that one compartment. I'm sure there isn't actually treasure inside, but I still want to know!
Please also try to capture the locking mechanisms if you every have the opportunity to get your hands on something like this, those mechanisms can be quite intriguing!
I could imagine in my head as you opened the chest, a noise ever so faintly grew louder, and louder... until you could understand what the words were saying..."one of us, one of us, one of us.." lol!
would be amazing to see a locksmith talk about the locks and how they work on the inside. Some of them would probably be quite happy to look at that old lock and key and explain what's weak about them... or marvel at the quality if it has!
I knew how to open the chest because I saw one on the Antiques Road Show once. Now, at 2:00 "What's in the box?" Don't ask Brad Pitt. If they add a coin each time it is opened, eventually, it will be filled with treasure.
If this was during August you should have contacted me as at the time as a yank with all my equipment and was at a locksmith firm ooooh god! I would have dropped everything to do this one! I was just around there at the time! Old warded locks were my hobby and made plenty of faux keys for all of the warded locks I came across. Back in the states though.
Another great video Brady. Keep up the good work. Can Moses make a cameo in all your future videos? Would love to see him pop in a Numberphile posting.
Is Keith part Australian? I always thought Brady was hard as nails but it was Keith who managed to open the chest! That was a brilliant idea, using the chest as a time capsule.
It's 2022 and I'm in my late thirties. I no longer care about business, personal, or relationship aspirations. The only thing I need out of life is to know what's in that lockbox.
Keith is the last person I expected to remark "there is cash money!" Haha
Bling, bling, bitches.

The Royal Society took Czechs. Brilliant.
Can you explain the joke to me please? I don't get it.
+Rachael Williams They accept both cash and Czechs.
Flocko7x ahhhhhh, right. Thanks :)
Didn't catch that, brilliant indeed.
@@Flocko_ *checks lol
Best unboxing video I've seen so far.
"This is the Lock Picking Lawyer and what I have for you today is a treasure chest at the Royal Society..."
I love that Brady added a new coin to the last chest to add to the record of when it had been opened.
same here. I also like the idea of that's what happened with the other coins as well.
+GildedBear +Nillie Hopefully pennies will be abolished in a few years so the next person will think it a historical treasure!
J-Star-Roar Yes, it is about time to retire the penny, and has been for a while now. By the time they get around to it, it'll probably be time to retire the 2p and 5p pieces as well. (Wait, it's time for that already. I must have meant the 10p pieces.)
Yeah, but adding a whole 10p to the chest... that's a bit expensive! :D
J-Star-Roar It's worth about as much as the smallest circulating denomination in Norway.
Moses is my favourite member of Objectivity, hands down.
Windmill Slam yes!
He's solid, but he's on the clock
I'm obviously late to the party on this one, but I didn't realize that Brady Haran was responsible for over half the RUclips content out there. From this we can infer that he is either a robot or quite possibly being sustained by cocaine alone. Either way, thanks for all the hard work, Brady.
Well, it all started with Periodic Videos, so chemistry is unquestionably involved...
Perhaps both. Cocaine-fueled cyborg
It's a little bit inappropriate to assume that this man of science is using drugs like cocaine. It's definitely meth.
That pun at 5:38 xD
I think Brady's humour might be rubbing off on Keith
I was just going to comment the same thing!
Alex Roberts Great minds think alike my friend, but I beat you to it this time ;)
+Conor Kinsella (SilentEire) I recall Brady mentioning Keith's great penchant for puns in an earlier video so I think he enjoyed them long before he even met Brady. As well he should. It is a sign of intelligence and love of language as far as I'm concerned =)
"The Royal Society took Czechs . . .". AAAAAAAARGH!
I just caught the checks pun -_-
Bradys face at the idea of getting a lock smith in, made my day.
Brady, i'm glad that you put the 2014 Penny in the chest. i wanted you to do it and you didnt disappoint!
I loved Keith in this episode. "That's cash money!" "These are from... Czechoslakia, so the Royal Society took checks! "
Always check for traps first !
Zogg from Betelgeuse Zogg?! Where about in the Universe have you been? I've missed you, my green three-legged friend.
i feel as though brady may be loosing his "hard as nails" moniker after that first lock :P
+Dominic Ransom hard as nail is not about strength...
and even it was, there's no way I am going to be the one to force a lock too hard and break it.... Keith can have that one! :)
+Objectivity That's just excuses, Brady ☺
Wow, I would have been terrified that I was going to break the key off in the lock of this 300 year old chest!
Objectivity Can't say I would blame you one bit for being gentle with things as a guest. If an employee breaks stuff as part of their job, well, that is just a hazard of the job. If a guest is breaking things... Well then maybe it would be time to consider different guests.

Ts6451 Well, that would be if it were found in the year 3158, after humanity has almost brought itself to extinction.
Again.
Even in my second view, I can’t avoid smiling all the way through. Brady’s joy is so contagious.
"Shall I try?" Of course, Keiths power level is over 9000.
Objectivity is now becoming my favorite RUclips channel. I just can't get enough of it.
This was so much better than when they opened Al Capone's vault! But Brady will be misleading future examiners by putting in a 2014 coin in 2015.
A half penny! Grey would love this.
TheSolazene I'm betting that Grey would also mispronounce halfpenny. It was called a ha'penny (like hayp nee) not a "half penny" as these whippersnappers seem to think.
+TheSolazene It's pre-decimal, from back when it actually had some value.
Nillie Aye, so am I. Happy days!
"Perhaps we should get a locksmith on the job" You have to get Lock Picking Lawyer to have a go!
it's a 1700s lock, should take no time at all

Outstanding series! I love museums and this channel is such a treat!
Kieth is amazing. Harder than 'Hard as Nails' Braidy and "cash money."
You don't fool me for a second, Brady. You are one of the most intelligent and perceptive guys around.
This was much more fascinating than Geraldo opening Al Capone's rubble wall. Way to go, Brady & Keith!
"Royal society takes cheques" - badaboom!
This is awesome. Granted, it would have been even more exciting with actual treasure, but the chests themselves are already pretty cool.
Returning from the tour video to rewatch this masterpiece with a reminder you still need to get into that other section without the key!
also i dont know how i missed the cheque joke the first time around but i almost died laughing just now - thank you keith
This video definitely lacks the chest opening theme from the Legend of Zelda followed by Brady holding a few old coins over his head.
Keith's keys, Keith's keys, Keith's keys, Keith's keys, Keith's keys, Keith's keys, Keith's keys,
allways love your work brady
That was delightful. I really hope you guys do get a locksmith for that one compartment. I'm sure there isn't actually treasure inside, but I still want to know!
Knowing IS the treasure.
Michael Winter Excellent.
Great video guys! Make sure you get Moses in for the re-opening, he stole the show for a bit (Keith's quality pun stole it back though!).
Very cool!! If you guys do get a locksmith, please make an episode out of it! ;) #KeithRocks #objectivity
This was so much FUN! Thank you Brady!
5:40 "the Royal Society took Czechs"
Spot on dad joke, Keith. Well done.
You can just see how much Brady loves his job.
"The Royal Society took Czechs" - badum tss! I love these videos.
That is really cool! A lot of clever craftsmanship went into making those chests.
wow you guys really need to get that smaller lockbox open!
My mind is saying the lock picking lawyer should come on to open the secondary lock box in the first chest.

At last there is something from my country on Objectivity! Well sort of ...
Collection of atoms from Czech republic
Is that a speedmaster you're wearing?
Lovely watch!
Even though there was almost nothing in the chests it was so exciting to watch this :)
I knew how to open the chest because I saw one on the Antiques Road Show once.
Now, at 2:00 "What's in the box?" Don't ask Brad Pitt.
If they add a coin each time it is opened, eventually, it will be filled with treasure.
That locking mechanism is beautiful!
The only type of unboxing I'm interested in from here on out.
Love the Speedmaster, Brady!
oooohhh i really hope you get in a lockksmith
That was cute and enjoyable, cheers Brady!
What a great episode!
5:12 "There is CASH MONEY!" lmao Keith's awesome ;)
I bet Keith has quite a few interesting library stories to share c:

If you pause at 3:30 you can see that Brady is really excited about the story and Keith is very embarrassed for his colleague...
