Philadelphia is the movie that brought the AIDS issue to public prominence, it’s a great movie. Bruce sang the song (live) as the video was shot.

I remember going to a Bruce show when I was about 14 with my dad and he loves h so do I and the guy is front of us worked for ESPN as a cameraman and had been to something like 20 Bruce shows and I’ll never forget what he told us before the show since it was our first one, he told us that every good feeling and everything good in the world was wrapped up in a Bruce Springsteen concert and that the feelings are there every show he goes to and man was he right. I love Bruce, I love the E street band, and I love everything they stand for a lot of people don’t like Bruce but for me he’s the greatest to ever do it.

Buddy of mine walked into a small Martha's Vineyard restaurant around 10:00 PM not long after this movie had been release and saw a back corner table of seven with Hanks, Springsteen Spielberg, their wives and one other person. I saw this and thought of that story.

Watch the movie Springsteen and I. True stories of fan's best Concert's with Bruce. I have seen Bruce over 12 times. He is famous for his marathon Concert's. My last Concert was 2016. It was 4 hours and 6 minutes. No breaks.. He crowds surfs. Picks people to come on stage and play the guitar with him. Watch No Surrender live 2016 Philly. Bruce and this college kid sang. This kid was awesome. Watch Video, Nothing Man about a firefighter from 9/11. Bruce's son just became a full firefighter for Freehold NJ.

You really should try "Racin' in the Streets", "The River" and "Jungleland". There are really 100 more. Every one of his shows I went to (6 in all, starting in 1980) lasted about 3 1/2 to 4 hours. Unmeasurable energy all the way through. And to add on to what was said about "Philadelphia", it won the Oscar for best song the year it came out.

  • @ogrestamp
    @ogrestamp 2 года назад +4

Streets of Philadelphia is still a hard song for me to listen to. My wife's brother passed away from AIDS back in the mid 80's and when we went to see the movie, we found out that not enough time had passed for her.
I'm On Fire and Glory Days came from his Born In the USA album which vaulted him to superstar status. Plus MTV was just coming out so those videos are iconic. Still love that line "Nettles got me in the bottom of the 9th". Craig Nettles was a great hitting ball player for the SD Padres.
Born To Run is one of his early iconic songs off the album of the same name but the video is live footage taken from those Born In the USA tours back in the 80's. I wish I were a tad older to go see those shows. The hype was amazing. But your don't get to be called The Boss for taking the easy route.

What I love about Bruce Springsteen is that he's usually not holding back, not too cool for his feelings or for fun. He throws himself into the song, no apologies for his level of intensity (nor his band's). Saw him live with E Street Band reunion tour; he went so hard he sweated through 2 tshirts, and the level of magnetism (and, apologies, pure sex appeal) he had onstage--even from the 3rd deck of a stadium--was unmatched. I think the only other artist I've ever seen who was that charismatic was Harry Styles at Madison Sq Garden for the HS1 tour. But Bruce was a man; his physical presence much more intense. (Actually, I just saw 5 Seconds of Summer live for the first time and I will say, Ashton's got that Bruce thing on stage. Wasn't expecting that!).
Acutually, Bruce's intro of the E Street Bad during 10th Avenue Freeze-out from Reunited tour -- or, well, any time near then including the superbowl, it's a preacher preaching and ends with this glorious peak invocation of the greatness Clarence Clemons. That saxophone,. Just, wow.

I could say many things about Sprinsteen's music, but if nothing else, I simply love his introduction to Born To Run - "In the end, nobody wins, unless everybody wins." That simple phrase has brought me great strength in my life, to always think about the big picture, and look out for everybody, not just myself. Bruce speaks the truth.
Once he starts touring again, you should definitely try to get a show - they are still amazing, and I 100% gaurantee he will play Born To Run. Basically every show since he released it, he has played Born To Run. Always a crowd pleaser.
If you're feeling a little sentimental, then the live version of The River from the Live 75-85 box set is worth a listen. It has an amazing narrative intro about Bruce and his father and the draft for Vietnam, that always hits me right in the heart.

    "No! Don't be over!"
I laughed out loud at this, because as a fan, it is exactly the reaction that song provokes. It's perfect. It's utterly perfect. At the same time, its brevity is a part of that perfection. Any longer, any more perfection, and the spell it casts might dissipate.
Stephen King once said that some stories, those mainly told as novels, are like marriages or similarly committed relationships, while others, the ones that wind up as short stories, are more like a quick kiss in the dark from a stranger. "I'm On Fire", barely two and a half minutes, is the song that comes closest to that feeling of being a quick kiss in the dark from a stranger.

The big man Clarence Clemmons. I went to a Bruce Springsteen concert in the San Francisco Bay Area in the late eighties. Another time my friends and I went to a popular music place in Mill Valley Ca. Sweetwater, the had live music on the weekends. We went a Sunday afternoon, and a local band was playing, however Clarence was playing the saxophone (his mother lived in the area), it was very different than the huge Springsteen concert, more intimate. Both great experiences.

It's funny. I haven't heard 'Glory Days' in literally years. Back when it came out, i laughed so hard. It reminded me of my parents, talking about their youth and experiences, the good old days. And I thought, how pathetic! I watched you and listen to the song again, now dangerously close to my 50's, and had to laugh again "I hope when I get old I don't sit around talking about... glory days' And guess what? That 'but I probably will' came true. Hilarious when you can laugh about yourself. Thanks for that 😊😊

Great choices! Watching your reactions always makes my night after a long day at work! I also recommend "Pink Cadillac" (1984), "Rosalita" (1979) and his Christmas cover version of "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town (1982). ... Natalie Cole had a bigger hit with her cover version of "Pink Cadillac" ... and the Pointer Sisters had a huge pop hit with their cover version of Bruce's song "Fire,"
from a female perspective (different song than "I'm on Fire"), which Bruce was a little jealous of :-) ... and Manfred Mann had a No. 1 hit with a cover version of Bruce's song "Blinded by the Light." You should listen to Bruce's originals and then the cover versions of each of those three songs. (Bruce's originals are good, but dare I say the covers are even better, believe it or not. :-) )

Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band, back on tour starting next year!! Be there or be square! I've had the pleasure of over 30 shows going back almost 50 years and I can't wait to add to my total!! Greetings from Canada, rock on. If you think "Streets of Philadelphia" was chilling, check out "41 Shots (American Skin), a heartbreaking true story about the killing of a West African immigrant Amadou Diallo by New York City Police in the late 90's. Finally, if you ever review "Born in the USA" it's a protest song about the treatment of returning Viet Nam Veterans, Bruce knows how to do social commentary!!

Next year, I´ll be seeing him live for the 7th time and if I don´t hear "Born to Run" live for the 7th time, I´ll be seriously disappointed! It´s been ten years since my last Bruce concert too and with it probably being the last one I´ll get to see, I seriously can´t wait for it.
There´s so many great Bruce songs to check out, but here are a few of my favorites and why:
Spirit in the Night (1973) - Bruce´s first hit and one of his best story songs in my opinion, that´s about a wild night down by Greasy Lake with a pair of buddies of his and his girlfriend. It´s one of his Jazziest songs too and very different from the rock hits, he became known for. No music video for it was made, since it was 1973 and practically no one made music videos back then, but there are plenty of awesome live versions of it available.
Kitty´s Back (1974) - Bruce´s second album "The Wild, the Innocent and the E Street Shuffle" wasn´t the hit he hoped it would be, but it is in my opinion one of the best albums ever made and the only one, where "The Original E Street Band" with Vini Lopez on drums and David Sancious on keyboard and piano get to show what they´re made of. It´s hard to pick only a few songs from it, but Kitty´s Back (named after the writing on an advertisement poster for a strip club, that Bruce happened to see one day on tour) is where they really get to shine. If the 7 minute studio version (which flies by in what feels like two minutes) isn´t enough for you, I recommend the 17 minute live version from the Hammerstein Ballroom in 1975. 17 minutes may sound like a lot but trust me, it´s 17 minutes of sonic ecstasy!
New York City Serenade (1974) - Another one from the same album and one I´m surprised isn´t mentioned more when people talk about his best songs. What the song basically is, is a snap shot of what living in New York as a young man in 1974 was like, with one beautiful lyrical picture being painted after another to help us visualize it. Again, no video was made, but the live version from Rome in 2013 is nothing short of masterful and has the studio version beaten by a long way. The only problem is that when you get to the end of the song, you won´t want it to end yet, even though it´s already 12 minutes long!
Jungleland (1975) - I´m trying to limit myself to one per album, but it´s hard when you´re talking about his early albums. You´ve heard the song "Born to Run", but the entire album is amazing from start to finish and perhaps no song on it is better than it´s closing number, the 9 and a half minute epic known as "Jungleland". Everything in it is Bruce and the E Street Band at their best, from Suki Lahav´s violin intro to beautiful verses with just the piano accompanying his voice, to the rocking parts that are classic Bruce all the way, to Clarence Clemmons´ unbelievably soulful sax solo that makes the hairs on your arms stand up, to the almost bombastic outro that seems to wrap up everything you´ve just heard perfectly, it just might be the best song ever written, if you ask me.
10th Avenue Freeze Out (1975) - If that song doesn´t make you smile, then there has to something wrong with you! It´s the song that tells us the story of how the E-Street Band came to be and arguably Clarence´s biggest signature number. While it may not be a masterpiece on the level of "Jungleland" or "Born to Run" it´s still one of the biggest fan favorite songs and one that was a constant on his set lists for many, many years!
Badlands (1978) - A classic from that period and one of the best sing along rock songs of all time, with lyrics that are so simple, yet so universal even today all of these years later. Every thing said in that song is sadly correct (poor man wanna be rich, rich man wanna be king and a king ain´t satisfied, until he rules everything) and while it musically isn´t one of his most exciting songs, it still hits something in you and makes you want to shake your fist in the air!
Fire (1978) - Bruce didn´t actually release his version until 1987, 9 years after it was recorded. In stead it was given to The Pointer Sisters, who had a big hit with. Bruce´s version is much better though and one that brings back many memories of teenage nights spent with girls in parked cars. It´s probably one of his sexiest songs too and for that alone, it´s worth a listen.
I didn´t even get to the 80´s and I still had to leave many songs out! It´ll end it here though, before it becomes an entire book on his work.
    Loved the reactions BTW!

Oh boy, you're after my own heart playing Bruce Springsteen (got all his cd's, dvd's, boxset's, book's) 😍 An incredible performer, song writer and creator of music, period. Without being aware of it, I realised three of my favourite music artists (ABBA, The Pointer Sisters & Bruce Springsteen) all released their first recordings in the same year, 1972. Synchronicity?! 🤔😆 But anyway, The Pointer Sisters released two Bruce Springsteen songs in '78 '79, "Fire" & "(She's Got) The Fever", both of them amazing. To recommend any Bruce that you might not have already heard... "Tougher Than The Rest", "Atlantic City", "There Goes My Miracle" (for my darling watching in heaven), "Brilliant Disguise" 💗 Loving your channel and your vibe 🙏🙌

There are a lot of great reactions channels out there but yours is the only one that makes me feel like I'm listening to music with an old friend.
"I'm on Fire" is a very sensual song.... very atypical of "the boss" but my favorite song in this list HAS to be "Glory Days." Just all around great!
Funny story about 'Born to Run"...one of the presidential candidates, I believe it was George HW Bush, was wanting to use it as one of his campaign songs, which was hilarious because it showed he really knew nothing about the song with the lyrics "It's a death trap, a suicide rap....We gotta get out of this hell hole town" and stand up comics had a field day with that one.

You definitely played the best of Bruce. If you like the song Streets of Philidelphia, it's on his greatest hits CD. If you like I'm On Fire and Glory Days, buy his Born In The USA CD. It made him super rich and famous and it's the one most Springsteen fans huge and casual like me have. Next time, I suggest playing Dancing In The Dark. That's my favorite Springsteen song and it's the video w/Courtney Cox. You won't regret it😁

For hot Bruce, I recommend: Fire - ruclips.net/video/d5PoIrcyd34/видео.html
For an even younger Bruce (and a fun song), I recommend: Ain't Good Enough for You - ruclips.net/video/kPg6ZZC3AcY/видео.html
Here's him with the Seeger Sessions band (New Orleans jazz band) having a blast: Pay Me My Money Down - ruclips.net/video/6Zt9mlP-NkM/видео.html
And this one is great because it's him and his regular band (the E Street Band) taking a request from the audience for a song that's not even theirs and figuring it out on the fly. Really fun video to watch: You Never Can Tell - ruclips.net/video/L-Ds-FXGGQg/видео.html

Me and my partner discovered your channel in the last week and just wanted to say thank you for making these amazing videos! They've been so much fun to binge watch and really hope you continue to make them for as long as you want to :)
As a live Bruce suggestion, there's an almost 20 minute long video (sorry if that's way too long) performing his song Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out, which is so high energy and fun that it needs to be seen to be believed but tbh any live Bruce on this channel would be incredible if you want to do it! m.ruclips.net/video/r1twvwbB_cU/видео.html
Thanks so much again for brightening up our days in rainy England with these genuine and heartwarming videos. We'll be 100% recommending your content to everyone we know :D

Though most of the E Street Band members are seniors I will have no doubt whatsoever that once they are back on the road they will still be amazing. If u ever get the chance, try to see them live. Have seen them a number of times over the years, and have enjoyed each and every concert!

I agree with your fave song choice again. I'm On Fire is just haunting and filled with longing. Random useless Springsteen fact of the day - he is now BFFs with President Obama! I saw a recent interview and they both said something just clicked when they met and now they spend tons of time over each other's homes. That just makes Bruce even cooler in my eyes.

You are not "really" late for Bruce, I understand he is doing smaller venues these days, if you have the chance go see him. Saw him twice in my country and in Spain 3, 4 hour long concerts amazing atmosphere, unforgettable. As for your crush on him same here🙂! Only Frank Sinatra had ever been called The Boss before Springsteen. Do love your reactions!

I also wanted to say how much I love the range and mix of music you review! Things I've loved forever, things I'm into now, and things I've never heard. I follow a bunch of reaction channels and yours is totally unique (as is your take). Because you just did U2, you might be interested in looking at these: ruclips.net/video/NVIV2jgJQIA/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/mhl9bQOiSKs/видео.html . It's Bruce Springsteen fronting U2 (later joined by Chris Martin). I was inside with a friend about 8 blocks north and we heard that unmistakeable bass and guitar wall of sound of "Where the Streets Have No Name" coming in the window. We didn't know what it was but we just ran towards it, get into to Times Square just as they are launching into "What I'm Looking for" -- the sound was bouncing off the buildings, it was pouring, we were soaked but it was absolutely glorious. So yeah, not quite as amazing as discovering that show live by serendipity, but I hope you enjoy!

Glory Days isn’t about sports. It’s about old dudes getting together with there old friends and all they have to talk about is their high school stories. You will understand this song in another 10 or 15 years.
