For all Kinsiders (Larkin Poe's fan) all around the world, "Mad as a Hatter" has been a primal shock. After that, you're addict for life and don't worry, it's normal. The ladies can play anything with great talent. If you have the opportunity to attend one of their concert, do not hesitate. Happiness is guaranteed
Larkin Poe, in any fair world, would be a major draw and known everywhere. These girls and their band are wildly better and more entertaining than the great majority of what's heard on the radio or seen on TV. They hardly even get the RUclips reactor love they clearly should get.
I TOTALLY AGREE! I found them by accident, and peeked at a few of their covers...They are really great! I will probably do more. I think it might be a better fit for my second RUclips channel- Reaction Diaries. It's for the less played, "Side B" kind of stuff, or older songs that you just don't normally see here on YT! @@TheSpeakEasyLounge Just to be clear - Yes, they do a lot of covers on their RUclips channels. But their live shows and recordings are primarily originals. They have been writing and recording original music since their mid teens. They recorded 3 (I think) albums in their teens with their older sister Jessica as a bluegrass/acoustic band. Won a bunch of bluegrass awards. Then Jessica moved on in 2009. Rebecca and Megan formed Larkin Poe in 2010. They have released around 8-10 albums since then. Their 2018 album Venom & Faith was nominated for a Grammy in the Contemporary Blues category.

I am only three months into my love affair of these two amazingly talented ladies. For my money "Mad as a Hatter" is the best song I have heard in the new century and is simply a masterpeice of a creation and is both emotive and important. Sound was perfect, thanks for another excellent reaction. I got into reactions around 2015 and have been introduced to so many amazing talents that have no radio presence but display performances that mind blowingly great. So if that is the direction you want to go that you alluded to in the beginning, sounds like a great plan to me.
I love Larkin Poe. I've not seen them live yet but I follow them online and have their albums. So talented and their blues rock Americana music is so true and natural. I love music that is real and not processed, if that makes sense.

Edgar Allan Poe is their great great great great grandpa. The girls and the drummer are siblings. This song/video is perfection in every way
Larkin Poe are phenomenal. Descendants of Edgar Allan Poe, the Lovell sisters are the real deal, fantastic musicians, and just plain badass. Rebecca Lovell has a powerful and soulful voice (and is an accomplished guitarist) and Megan Lovell is Queen of the slide guitar. They do great covers of roots/Americana/rock/blues classics but are also great songwriters. They record and produce their own records on their own label. Very accomplished ladies. They have toured with big names such as Elvis Costello and Bob Seger, and recorded background vocals for Billy Gibbons' newest album. I have several of their records and they are so much better than the bulk of what you hear on the radio today. Their newest live album "Paint The Roses" recorded with the Nu Deco Ensemble is fantastic. Great mix of the ensemble's instruments with Larkin Poe's gritty blues sound. This video that you reacted to is from 2015 I believe, and they do Mad As A Hatter on the new live album, which is an even better performance.

Hatter in French is the Chapelier, the guy manufacturing hats (chapeaux). It is a reference to the mad hatter (le chapelier fou) character sublimely interpreted by Johny Depp.

Welcome to your new obsession; Larkin Poe ;-) "Mad As A Hatter" was first performed live as part of their set at Fairport's Cropedy Convention music festival in 2012. They ended up outselling all other Cropedy artists in CD sales. MAAH will finally find it's home on wax with it's release this fall as part of a live set recorded in December of 2020 with the Nu Deco Ensemble. (IT IS EPIC) LP are an independent band with their own record label and their own paywalled social media platforms, Kinsiders and LPTV. They've been touring professionals since their teens. Mentored by Elvis Costello. Backing band for Conor Oberst, Kristian Bush and the aforementioned E.C. Picked as opener by Bob Segar for what would be his last tour. Picked as featured artist by Keith Urban for his Graffiti U Tour. Picked as part of the backing band for Tom Petty's "Music Cares" Person of The Year Tribute Concert. They rehearsed 40 Tom Petty songs to prepare for the show even though they only needed to learn 10 to 12. Cool reaction. Larkin poe is by far my favorite band. They where nominated for the 2020 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album, and for best song with “Bleach Blonde Bottle Blues”. So you really must listen to this one.

I've been listening to Larkin Poe for about 3 years. They are amazing in their sound and compliment each other so well. I love their sound.

A little history on them, as I understand it. They were born and raised in Georgia by their doctor-parents, who homeschooled them. They got started with music as babies, playing classical violin and piano and, then, as young teenagers, moved on to bluegrass music. Rebecca, the redhead, even won a national mandolin contest. Eventually, they discovered roots rock and the blues and grew into the musical artists they are today. While they do a lot of covers, the covers are always their own re-interpretations and not just attempts at perfect mimicry. The covers, to me, often sound better than the originals. And, of course, there are also their own, original songs, which are always excellent and often really extend the great American songbook brilliantly. By now, they've both married and are quite happily living in Nashville, Tennessee.

One of the top few songs of the second decade of this Millennium, in terms of writing and performance. Will the Recording Academy of the United States ever notice? Nah. Why not? Larkin Poe produces their own recordings; none of the big shot recording companies owns them. That said, they were nominated, for a second time, for a Grammy in 2023, though of course without a big label marketing for them. They are too good to be ignored.
In 2021 Larkin Poe recorded this song with Nu Deco Orchestra.
They have many LP's. I have five.
They are my favourite contemporary band and cover many genres. Definitely worth spending and enjoying time listening to.

Big fan of the Lovells. You mentioned their cover series: they started doing the covers as a way to develop the sound they were going for, and in the process several went viral, so they kept it up It was from one of their covers, "Preachin' Blues" that grabbed Bob Seger's attention and led to the tour Kelly spoke of. Many of the covers surpass the artists they are honoring, IMO, but it's their originals that set them apart. This fall they are the featured artists on the Monster Energy Breakout Tour. If you care to go back before Larkin Poe was formed in 2010, they were in the bluegrass group Lovells Sisters Band which included their older sister, Jessica. It was in this group they first caught the attention of Elvis Costello.

Hi TSEL! That was a GREAT reaction. I've really gotten into Larkin Poe the past year and I'm actually attending my 1st concert with them later this month in New York! Yes, that's a slide guitar / lap steel guitar the older sister plays.

As I mentioned, I found them by accident. I was truly impressed with some of their covers! It hasn't gotten much attention yet, I'm hoping others will find this and give it a chance. There are so many great artists out there that I'd like to check out. I just hope that the channel subscribers will give them a chance! I won't do anything that I, myself wouldn't listen to.
