When live tracks outpace their engineered counterparts. So f'ing powerful. He stands there like maybe he doesn't know the guitar or he's going to strum some chords, and then HE KILLS IT. Me and the bros went to see them, and ~~specifically for this song~~ Lewis had a hip jacket with fringe hanging off it and a fantastic wide brimmed hat with what looked like silver conchos around it, so onstage, backlit, he was this amazing silhouette with this mystical cowboy presence, like I donno man, Prince meets Stevie Ray Vaughan. It was badass.
I can see why you and Alejandro Ronde for such friends there's a lot of similarities between the two of you and I like your music a lot as well Twin Shadow
I thought the Lost Boys sample on the album version was really cool, but the guitar filler on this live version is even better. It really makes the song in my opinion.
The Lost Boys sample is from L.A. Guns "Cry Little Sister." You can hear the choral sample to which I'm referring in the chorus of this song. If it isn't an exact sample, it's really really close.
I went back and listened to both and it's clearly intentional and copied to the beat (sped up of course), but if you try to listen to the words they are different, on Lost Boys it says " Thou shall not fall" on Twin Shadow's song it says "Golden light." So maybe it's not a 1:1 sample they just made their own to sound a lot like it. Go to 3:13 on the original Golden Light track, you can hear the sample very clearly there and compare.
The song being idly played in the beginning, before the song begins is an 80s pop song sung by a female and I can hear it in my head and it's driving me crazy because I can't place it. Please, someone else, listen and help!
Taylor Dane - Tell It To My Heart. Boom. I am amazing. Only took me half an hour trying to figure out what the lyric was I was hearing in my mind. Ugh. I need a life.
not sure what this is doing in my feed, and especially confused now about what separates counter culture and mainstream nowadays seeing how this song is made up of a mainstream chord progression, retro percussion, and generic melodies. I mean, how do the hipsters justify listening to something so predictable?
I love this performance, the light bulbs just make it so enchanting.
