My dad in the early 70s would wake us kids up on the weekend playing the broom and Doug Kershaw blasting from downstairs as he made his way to each one of our bedrooms!! Great memories!!!
Very cool. I was a kid in the 70's and for years I have remembered the wild guy with the fiddle but could never remember his name. Finally did a search for famous fiddle players and there he was! Been loving his stuff on youtube!
Krista. Dang straight it is. We are all a part of the Battle of New Orleans. I visit that solemn battlefield field often! I will visit again this week. America should visit the Chalmette Battlefield (New Orleans) as soon as possible. Louisiana is where we stopped the enemy cold.👈🇺🇸👍
I saw him at the halftime of a Saints game in the Superdome back in the 80s, that was my favorite halftime show ever. The Man is Cajun Electricity. Did you know he grew up in a Cajun speaking family & learned the fiddle 3 years before learning English.
Nope, your wrong. The greatest fiddler that ever lived. When I lived in New Orleans had a chance to see him but plans fell through. One of the biggest disappointments in my life
Doug is just stunning. Drop the 1960s clothing and hair let's just get back to the mind blowing exquisite musicianship..He is breathtaking!! This is what fiddles were made for. I'm left breathless.
I remember seeing him on the local Memphis tv station close to 50 years ago! Loved him then, now I'm sharing his awesome fiddling with my children, one of whom is a self taught musician himself! Don't make 'enough like this anymore!!
The perfect combination of jaw dropping talent and an innate ability to perform. Even if he sucked ( he doesnt) he'd be fun to watch. Such joy....I defy anyone to feel down after watching him
Paul Parker, I have a cool story for you. I come from a family of musicians also & Doug has played with them. Back when Lake Charles Civic Center used to host concerts (sometime in the 70's I think), we went to see Reba and Aaron Tippin I think. Whoever the introductory singer was did not show up so Doug stepped in. The Civic Center announcer came on stage to inform the crowd of the change & offered money back for the tickets. A lot of people actually left. When Doug got onto the stage and started playing, some of them turned around and came back!! In classic Doug Kershaw style, he started with Louisiana Man. He then leaped off the stage & ran up and down the aisles playing his fiddle. When he got to the line "they call my Mama Rita", he grabbed a lady's hand sitting in the aisle seat & danced with her. It was his Mama!! The crowd went wild. We really didn't need to see the others after seeing him, but of course we did. I've seen Doug many times since then, but this one will remain the most special in my memory.
What a great story! Thanks so much for sharing it with us all. I have never had the opportunity to see Doug in concert. But I come from a background of wild and crazy Michigan rockers like Iggy Pop and Ted Nugent (the Motor City Madman) so I would have been right at home at a Doug Kershaw concert.
He is one of a hell fiddle player Love all his Cajun tunes. Seen him preform in Louisiana. It sure was a great show. Wished his videos would be longer.
Thought I lost this guy! He was my break through music man from top 40's/bubble gum, to Motown being my favorite, then my brother Richard introduced me to Hendrix, then rock and roll and then came Kershaw! Saw him on some old TV show and many did not get him in the hills and he was not played on the radio in Kentucky, Ohio, Texas or Alabama back then so I kind of lost him. Then his last name came up and a loud bell went off In my head and I am so very very happy to hear his music again! God bless his soul! What a talent! Thanks for posting! 😁✌
We had the pleasure of catching his shows in the 70's in of all places the Golden Nugget, downtown Vegas! Too awesome, even when this music wasn't meant to be cool......loved every minute of it! Anyone else there?..
I saw Mr Kershaw at the Filmore East as lead band for Ten Years After and he was a new flavor that night. He was gettin some trouble from the (infamous) groupies in the first few rows and after doin a few ripping songs he sat down on the edge of the stage, looked right at those gals and played till he had them with him....it was absolutely amazing and when he"d done it he got up and started dancin and playing Liggy Diggy Li with that intensity only he could....When he and the band left that stage Alvin Lee from Ten Years After had a real warm crowd! Never forget that performance by Kershaw he was amazing.
Really? Impressive. His brain is wired for music 100%. I see he plays strings and keyboards. But drums and horns is a different direction. I wonder if he can show a harp where to dance !!! He is amazing, simply one of a kind amazing.!!!🤗🤗🤗
He's as crazy as Nicole Paganini ! A serious fiddler, a speed demon! Wonder if he drives a car as fast as he plays that fiddle ? Quite the power in those fingers ! 😀
Thanks for sharing these videos. I was there for this and other Soundstage performances. It was a great venue. Fiddlers Three was my favorite of all the performances.
He will always be one greatest fiddle player, kind pick up from my dad watch on Nashville now TNN channel on cable. Did get see him at Fan Fair back 1989 or few more years later. One greatest concert show. Thank You. Truly enjoy his music though years.
I watched this show on WTTW in Chicago. I was a teenager and really into Doug Kershaw's music. What is funny is, this show introduced me to Jean-Luc Ponty whom I had never heard of, and I became a huge fan of jazz-rock fusion as a result of seeing him on this show. So, Doug Kershaw is responsible for my becoming a huge fan of modern jazz. I'm still a huge fan of Doug, of cajun music and also of zydeco.
Damn it. Keeps skipping But I remember Doug kershaw from when I were a child. Best fiddler I ever heard. Just found tube had him uploaded. So happy!!!-
Back in the 70's, I dealt blackjack at Harrah's in Tahoe. Doug played the little showroom that had large windows so people playing or passing by could see the show inside. His show got so wild that crowds gathered and blocked the casino floor. Customers stopped playing to watch. Doug left the little stage, came out to the casino floor, jumped up on a craps table, and played for the crowd. It was incredible, but they never booked him for that room again. He interfered with business at the tables.
Just happened to discover him on the Ralph Emory show Pop goes the Country about 6 years ago and being from the North I had never heard of him but I instantly knew this guy is special and it didn't take long to confirm that
I have a snapshot of Doug which I took in the 70's in Lake Arthur, La...He was talking to someone on a payphone.........One of my greatest treasures.....Keeyaw
I saw this on WNET all those years ago.I was born in N.Y.and growing up there,I had never seen or heard anyone play this music before. Who better to introduce me to this world of music than Douglas Kershaw?! I remember being just amazed at the way he played that fiddle with such ferocity that the strings were shredded, the way he moved as he played and the expressions on his face and in his voice! I haven't seen or heard anyone even quite like Douglas Kershaw since, anywhere. He is truly unique
thanks! I was lucky enough to have seen him in Reno in a small, small room in about 1978...all I can remember is that I was electrified with the sheer energy. And amazed as the strings on his bow just snapped one by one...now that I am somewhat "educated" in Cajun music and culture - I wish I had had a couple less drinks!
Saw him twice in 1976, At a place called the Longhorn Ballroom in Downtown Dallas! If he is buried with his Fiddle, they will have to strap him into his coffin to keep him still !
I'm not imagining anything. He resembles Paganini so much that it's startling. Ok, is there such a thing as reincarnation? I'm starting to wonder now. He does look like he's stepped out of a time machine. Wonder if he has any kids that inherited his gargantuan abilities.😊
Doug could play fiddle like nobody's business. I'm sure that there are others, but he is the only fiddle player that I ever saw sing and fiddle at the same time. Most sing and then fiddle, but never fiddle and sing at the same time.
I love you brother from southern Illinois and Mr Timothy Ernest Martin Sr the 1st from Gary Indiana was south Louisiana bayou country said I was a dam Yankee because I cane. For the good food jobs and a cajin woman I said dam right cold beer too lol I love all my southern Cajun French people amen

@@truthseeker3977 The bad news is the war was already won. But it WAS fun.
He is a very talented fiddler and I wish you would pass on to him he is one of the best in my mind. I watch his videos all the time they are awesome.
My mom liked him since 1958 i used to listen to those old 45's!
I saw him at the halftime of a Saints game in the Superdome back in the 80s, that was my favorite halftime show ever. The Man is Cajun Electricity. Did you know he grew up in a Cajun speaking family & learned the fiddle 3 years before learning English.
The greatest cajun fiddler that ever lived!!! Love his style of playing!!
Nope, your wrong. The greatest fiddler that ever lived. When I lived in New Orleans had a chance to see him but plans fell through. One of the biggest disappointments in my life
He is truly amazing. He sings as well as is wild on the fiddle. Love him.

Look at that Neru Jacket and Bellbottoms! Must be 60s/70s - that is when I used to watch him on TV. I have seen him live as well!
I remember seeing him on the local Memphis tv station close to 50 years ago! Loved him then, now I'm sharing his awesome fiddling with my children, one of whom is a self taught musician himself! Don't make 'enough like this anymore!!

This man is extraordinary with his fiddle
He is the reason my daughter plays fiddle/violin. My husband and I saw him many times in Austin, Texas in the early Seventies.
He is one of a hell fiddle player Love all his Cajun tunes. Seen him preform in Louisiana. It sure was a great show. Wished his videos would be longer.
Saw him at our fait many years ago he broke over 50 fiddle strings that night and he was and still is amazing
Doug Kershaw's approach to Cajun music reminds me of Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson and his style to Rock.
What a great performance. Very nice, superb.
God Bless-this is AWESOME. So glad you found the tape. Thanks..FN great
In this time, Doug was fantastic... From France.
Just when I thought I had seen it all, I discover Doug Kershaw.
