The ad is for our national /international airline Qantas. They have made quite a few ads like this over the decades, all using this song, children's choirs and Australian landscapes. Having a smaller population, a lot of Australians find themselves having to live overseas for work or other reasons, and that usually means being many thousands of miles away from home, so this song really makes us emotional. The choir of school children is from a school in Longreach, Queensland where Qantas had its original office and a way of linking into the Australian Childrens' Choir, also in the video, which has also featured in other Qantas advertisements. Qantas is an acronym for Queensland And Northern Territory Aerial Services. It is the third oldest airline still in operation.
This was great thank you as always for this reaction!! It’s not so much a promotional video for foreigners to come to Australia. It’s a commercial for Qantas. It’s shown here, not sure about overseas. Qantas takes us out of Australia to other places and brings us home, from anywhere in the world. It’s our national airline and Aussies are pretty proud as it’s arguably the best airline in the world. Peter Allen was a very special Australian- there was a Broadway musical made about his life called the Boy from Oz and Hugh Jackman played Peter. I’ve met Hugh Jackman a couple of times actually.
The video clip isn't an ad for Australia per say, it is an ad for Qantas which is the Australian International airline. London was shown because Kylie is based there, and LA is shown because Hugh is based there. There is a large percentage of Australians that travel overseas and also quite a large community of expat Australians who live and work overseas. This ad from Qantas is probably more of a hook for those Australians returning home for a visit rather than other international travelers. But it also shows off some of Australia to the world which probably helps Australian tourism and encourages international travelers to travel by Qantas Airlines. Every year or so Qantas puts out a new ad based on that song, "I still call Australia home", and that general theme. There are probably several examples of these past ads as video clips on youtube if one searches for them. I do remember back in my youth returning from only a three or four week holiday overseas and catching a Qantas fight home. The sound of an Aussie accent coming from the cabin crew aboard the aircraft just made me relax, and I knew I was in safe hands and almost home.
Correction, it was Troye Sivan - who was actually born in South Africa but was raised here in Oz - in LA, which is also why the beat changed to be more EDM/pop-like. Hugh is in New York I believe(Broadway and all that).
There's a few shallow pink lakes in Australia, usually in the outback. They are super salty, and some salt adapted bacteria and algae turn the lakes pink. There's even one small pink lake visible from the West Gate Bridge in Melbourne if you are driving from west to east. Its right on the estuary of the Yarra River as it turns into Port Phillip Bay, and the salt loving organisms make this one and only bright pink lake near the city. The outback lakes can evaporate in dry times, and leave pale pink salt flats behind, waiting for the rain.
omg you two are adorable, I can see the love that you both have for each other. Thanks for bringing a smile to my face :) Not sure if anyone has said but yes there were shots of LA and London and even Tokyo (i think) but as an Aussie you can tell which cities are ours. if you get a chance there is an absolutly beautiful doco on the Australian state of Tasmania done by YT "into the wild films" "Tasmania Documentary 4K | Wildlife | Australia Landscapes and Nature", I highly recommend it

I stayed in Melbourne for 3 months with family a couple of years ago. I absolutely loved it and I would love to back again. Melbourne is a fantastic city - the main drawback is house prices, which are just like the UK…crazy
Show us Romania yes please. It would be lovely to see. Australia is an island nation, a multicultural society and a country of immense beauty. That did bring a tear to my eye and I am so happy you played that. Thank you 😊
I was born in a small town called Wickham in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. At the time it housed 2,000 people. It's a town that was created to house all the workers for a mining company. Western Australia is known for Iron Ore and other minerals. Wickham was built in the 70's and the workers worked at Cape Lambert. This is where the giant ships from a lot of countries, come and load up to take Iron Ore to make steel. All of the houses (Unless you were a government worker) not sure if it's changed, were fitted with air-conditioning and solar hot water systems. The temperature can get up to 50°C +, and the schools were air-conditioning as well. It was a fantastic place to live, red soil, spinifex, flat land, some hills. But then, the red soil and spinifex, turn into sand dunes and they go for kilometres, the sand is pure white and the ocean is clear as glass. The houses are built with steel due to the yearly cyclone's, some get up to category 5. No crocodiles are in the area, surprisingly as it is just below the Kimberley region, there are sharks though. Great places to see are Point Sampson, Cossack, Roebourne, Karratha, Dampier, Port Headland, Broome and more. Also look at the Staircase to the moon.
This song brings a tear to my 77yr old eyes everytime I hear it and I'm supposed to be a rough tough old Aussie who never shows his emotions . I've travelled overseas every year since 1980 and there's some wonderous places out there but I get homesick the minute I board a QANTAS flight and they play this song over their sound system . There is no excuse for you not to jump on a plane and come visit us here in gods country Australia , the commercial isn't long enough to show you everything we have to offer so come see for yourselves , but plan on spending longer than the usual 2 weeks :vacation . Its a vast country and you have to meet everyone , there's only 25 million of us so you could theoretically do It (just joking we do have a few shy people). Do yourself a huge favour and check out the original song by PETER ALLEN , but pick a live performance they are spectacular . You could also react to GREAT SOUTHERN LAND by the Aussie band ICEHOUSE the video shows off the Lucky country very well . You mentioned ROMANIA check out my favourite current band LILIAC who are a family band of 5 kids whose parents emigrated to the USA got married and gave birth to all these talented young people .
I’m sure you would like the Australian singing group, “The Seekers,” singing, “I am Australian.” They rose to fame in the 60s, female singer in the group is Judith Durham who has a magnificent voice even still in her age now. If you search for, “The Seekers, 1994 AFL grand final,” they sing four magnificent songs standing in the middle of the Melbourne cricket ground, backed by children’s choirs. Trust me, you will love it. (Also search for, “What is AFL?” I’m sure you will be fascinated with that as well.)
When Peter Allen was living and entertaining in America, he missed Australia so much, he wrote, "I Still Call Australia Home", not realising that it would become such a tremendous hit, not only in Australia, but all around the world. I truly believe, that it should be Australia's National Anthem.
I've watched a few reactions to this song and clip but yours is the most pure and thurthful when it comes to missing a place you grew up with. I would love to see more when you play it through then talk about afterward and play and talk. Thank you. I'm going to subscribe.

There are a few pink lakes here in Australia caused by salt and a special kind of algae. The colour changes from a lilac to a bright bubblegum pink colour.
Great reaction!! You guys are adorable. i really enjoy your banter. I hope you get to come to Australia one day. And yes, please post something about your home country of Romania.
Fellow Aussie born and bred here, this comercial makes all of us cry. The pink water is the salt lakes. The high salt content changes the colour of the water in that area
Australia is a beautiful place. 3 cities in the top 10 liveable cities in the world. It would take you about 30 years to visit every beach in Australia. Has the longest golf course the Nullarbor links 850 miles long.
Everyone in the world needs to visit Australia just once in their life time. I was born here and live here and would not want to live anywhere else on Earth. If you come here you will never want to leave.
Originally written in 1972, "Tenterfield Saddler" is about three generations of Peter's family on his father's side. The song tells the story of his grandfather, George Harewell Woolnough (1884-1963) who worked as a saddler in Tenterfield, New South Wales, Australia, from 1908 until his retirement in 1960. The story then progresses to Peter's father, Richard John Woolnough (1916-1958) who was never the same after returning home from WWII after serving in the Australian Army and died of suicide by gunshot in 1958. The story concludes with Peter Richard Woolnough (1944-1992) who changed his last name to Allen and married a girl with an interesting face (Liza Minnelli). ruclips.net/video/ogA-B1MRBkQ/видео.htmlsi=R5WRTWAUwx7jAzqx
Such an emotional ad featuring an emotional song. I remember first hearing Peter Allen sing this song on TV in 1980. It was a Royal Charity Concert before the Queen and Prince Philip, at the Sydney Opera House. The song still goes straight to the heart today as it did all those years ago. Also performing was Olivia Newton John singing Don't Cry For Me Argentina and John Farnham, singing his now legendary version of Help.
One of the many adverts Qantas has done over the decades. Didn't know you guys were from Romania. 32yrs ago when I was 25, I went to the UK and worked & lived there for 3 years. Being from Western Australia, I always wanted to go snow skiing ..and to cut the story short I ended up going to Romania. If I can remember the name properly,it was in Poiana Brasov (spelt wrong I'm sure lol). I loved it. The mountains were so beautiful!! & Yes I even ate bear & wild boar. ✌️❤️ 🇦🇺
Andrei is Romanian and actually from the same region which is Transylvania. And you spelt Poiana Brasov perfect! Thank you for your comment. All the best 😀
We don't realise how much we love Australia and just how patriotic we are until we leave our country. I had a panic attack in NYC after a month in the USA. After about 20 minutes into this attack I found a channel with the V8 supercars and Mark Beretta commentating and I instantly felt at peace.
The Pink Lake is Port Gregory, Hutt Lagoon - one of Australia’s most iconic pink lakes - is just a 10min drive away. Visitors to Hutt Lagoon will find themselves face to face with an immense body of bubble-gum pink water that changes to deep red at certain times of day.
Greetings from Oz! Trivia tidbit; The song was written by Australian singer/songwriter Peter Allen. Hugh Jackman famously played Peter Allen on stage in the musical "The Boy From Oz"
G'day to you both, if you want to hear another great Aussie song " Great southern land " with the video it will blow you away, plus your both very welcome to come to Australia, we would love to have you.....
the theme song is by an australian artist...peter allen...its just wonderful and part of a great album called tenterfield saddler...qantas has used this song as its theme for years...always bring a tear to the eye....glad you enjoyed it...
In Australia we call the wilderness 'the bush' or 'the outback'. It is definitely beautiful. And the nights sky is AMAZING. :) Hope you come to visit, if you haven't already! :) This songs does get me emotional every time. I remember coming home from England and getting on the plane and hearing that Aussie accent, made me so homesick! :)
This song was written by Peter Allen as a sentiment about being Australian at heart, no matter where in the world and Australian may be living. Qantas, Australia’s national airline, has been using the song as part of its promotional campaigns for years. I personally think some of the earlier promotions did more justice to the song. There are people depicted in this that non-Australians are probably not going to know, so it probably loses something. The ads have always featured the children’s choir, which is wonderful, and earlier versions also featured more of the didgeridoo. This song does tug at the heartstrings of many Australians and I thank Peter Allen for writing it.
There is a lot of history in this ad, Qantas is the oldest continously operating airline in the world, starting in 1920, so is over a hundred years old. Toward the end of the ad they showed Qantas flying history projected on their original hangar where they started in country Queensland. KLM is a few months older, and Avianca is also a few months older, but neither airline has had a continuous operating history. Children from all over Australia, including from remote locations compete for the honor of being in the Qantas choir. The song is written by my cousin, Peter Allen, husband of Liza Minelli, Oscar winner for the theme song of the 1981 movie Arthur, writer and singer of the #1 hit I Go To Rio. His first song I Honestly Love You became Olivia Newton John's first international #1 hit, and he was the subject of the musical The Boy From Oz. I have seen pink lakes from the air in Western Australia. They look unbelievable even though you are seeing bright pink water with your own eyes.
Your husband is right. They used Kylie Minogue in London, I don't know the young man but it was overseas, then the other guy was Hugh Jackman in NY - but the part to take from this is it was a Peter Allen song and Hugh played Peter Allen in THE BOY FROM OZ on Broadway in 2003-2004 and it was commissioned by our national airline QANTAS and this was an advert for QANTAS. There are better versions of the same thing because they did several and when Oprah brought her audience from Chicago to Australia in 2010 the closing out show was at the Sydney Opera House and the song was led by Hugh and then Olivia Newton John came out, followed by Keith Urban and then Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe. That is my all time favourite version and they use a didgeridoo at the beginning. Here is a link to that one:- ruclips.net/video/zYg97BGmmLE/видео.html
Score one for Andrei re the cities. The girls in the pool were the Campbell sisters who have about a million Gold Medals between them. The guy at the pool was Adam Goodes, a fantastic indigenous AFL player. (Australian football) Guys, if you buy the plane ticket from the millions you're making from YT, I'll pick you up at the airport. Lol. BTW, book a QANTAS flight. They are recognized as the world's safest airline, and they play this song as you board. I also recommend the "Great Southern land" video clip with Icehouse.
You can watch the making of each of these versions of this commercial, there have been a few over the years. All about the logistics to get all these kids to these epic locations, it's just as amazing as the actual commercial.
The pink lakes with the children standing down the middle is where they make salt. Most are in or on the edge of the desert. There is only one real pink lake and it almost connects to the blue ocean. There is a 14 minute video of this song being used by QANTAS and it has every Ad except this new one. We do love them and this song plays when we come home from an International flight from landing until we are in the terminal. Australians love to travel but the very best part of traveling is coming home. Our Country calls us home. If you are not Australian you will not know why all of these people were in this Ad and they all keep coming home. Peter Allen did write this song and a whole one man show, after he passed away Hugh Jackman played him on Broadway in The Boy From Oz. The young lady sitting on her bed talking on the phone was the world number one tennis player, Ash Barty. Until she retired this year to play golf, she is really good at that too. The two young ladies swimming in the ocean are the Campbell sisters, Kate and Brontë. Both responsible for bringing home many Olympic and Commonwealth Games Medals. The man standing on the edge of the ocean swimming pool is Adam Goodes, a famous AFL player and a really good person. Adam is Indigenous and a big part of our land. The children are always from the Australian Children’s Choir.one Ad starts with an Indigenous boy singing in his language, it is beautiful. This song and the seekers song which is called I Am Australian will always stand for us and our home. People think we are a small Island but we are the same size as America and you can fit most of Europe into our Country. We have everything from snowy mountains to the desert, rainforests and so much more.
The song is by the late Peter Allen (who was once married to Liza Minelli) from around 1980 - the second line originally mentioned "From New York, to Rio, and old London town", but was changed to replace Rio with Rome as Qantas doesn't fly to/from Rio de Janeiro (not sure about New York either). Still, this version is the latest of many Qantas promotions featuring the song - I believe this version was recorded just before the pandemic hit the world and has only recently been released with the relaxation of travel restrictions. The song ranks with "I Am Australian" by The Seekers to bring a tear to the the eye of any patriotic Australian!
Yep it was London and then LA but one of the shot at 2:46 when hugh jackman started singing, so youre both right! :) Im from Melbourne, Australia. I loved your reaction this is classic aussie song

The red lake in the video is in SA, usually blue one side and pink the other.
omg you two are adorable, I can see the love that you both have for each other. Thanks for bringing a smile to my face :) Not sure if anyone has said but yes there were shots of LA and London and even Tokyo (i think) but as an Aussie you can tell which cities are ours. if you get a chance there is an absolutly beautiful doco on the Australian state of Tasmania done by YT "into the wild films" "Tasmania Documentary 4K | Wildlife | Australia Landscapes and Nature", I highly recommend it
Wow! Thanks so much! We'll definitely check it out! Have a great day! 😁

The whole world is beautiful.❤love from Australia.
I stayed in Melbourne for 3 months with family a couple of years ago. I absolutely loved it and I would love to back again. Melbourne is a fantastic city - the main drawback is house prices, which are just like the UK…crazy
We have better salaries than the UK, but yes house prices are high. Even higher in Sydney though.
Yeah, wonderful reaction. Thank you both !
Show us Romania yes please. It would be lovely to see. Australia is an island nation, a multicultural society and a country of immense beauty. That did bring a tear to my eye and I am so happy you played that. Thank you 😊
Yes -This one makes Everyone homesick - even when you're still home! 🤣
I'm Australian and every time I hear this song I cry.... ❤
My best friend moved to Australia 10 years ago and he'll never come back, he loves it! X
I moved here 33 years ago and I could never live in the UK again. Australia is in my blood, my heart, my core, my being.
That huge red rock at the beginning, called Uluru, is like a glacier, only 10% of it is above ground 🤯
Hello I’m new to your channel and I love that song as well. When I first heard that song I was tearing. I hope to hear from you both soon. It’s a pink lake somewhere in the west. Take care and stay safe and God Bless you both and bless your family too. 🌺🦋🌈💖❤️😊😘🙏🏻from Edith in Australia 🇦🇺
There are a few pink lakes here in Australia caused by salt and a special kind of algae. The colour changes from a lilac to a bright bubblegum pink colour.
Thank you my friends Australia 🇦🇺 love you
Great reaction!! You guys are adorable. i really enjoy your banter. I hope you get to come to Australia one day. And yes, please post something about your home country of Romania.
Your wife is correct, they are all places in Australia…you are both so adorable 😊
Aww thanks for loving our country. I just subscribed. I get emotional every time I see this ad
No matter how many times I hear this, still makes me tingle with pride 🇦🇺🇦🇺🦘
This song has always brought a proud tear to my eye long before the Qantas adverts were a thing. I love a sunburnt country.
Fellow Aussie born and bred here, this comercial makes all of us cry. The pink water is the salt lakes. The high salt content changes the colour of the water in that area
Other minerals and algae contribute to the colour
This song should be australias national anthem , I’d vote for that
Australia is a beautiful place.
3 cities in the top 10 liveable cities in the world.
It would take you about 30 years to visit every beach in Australia.
Has the longest golf course the Nullarbor links 850 miles long.
we do have every thing .and i love my country sooooo much
Everyone in the world needs to visit Australia just once in their life time. I was born here and live here and would not want to live anywhere else on Earth. If you come here you will never want to leave.
Love you reaction....lovely couple 😊

I'm so happy you looked at this. QANTAS have used this for some time. We would love to have yo here and I would be glad to show you around Queensland
Chills..... on the beaches of Perth - chills!!!!!
✌️❤️
🇦🇺
Andrei is Romanian and actually from the same region which is Transylvania. And you spelt Poiana Brasov perfect! Thank you for your comment. All the best 😀
@@MerchantOfAlba wow,I've stunned myself lol
Those winding roads through the Transylvanian Alps was 'fun' lol.
Thx guys 👍
❤️ From 🇦🇺
✌️
We don't realise how much we love Australia and just how patriotic we are until we leave our country. I had a panic attack in NYC after a month in the USA. After about 20 minutes into this attack I found a channel with the V8 supercars and Mark Beretta commentating and I instantly felt at peace.
The Pink Lake is Port Gregory, Hutt Lagoon - one of Australia’s most iconic pink lakes - is just a 10min drive away. Visitors to Hutt Lagoon will find themselves face to face with an immense body of bubble-gum pink water that changes to deep red at certain times of day.
The best thing about this is, all the things you see, this is my home I've seen almost all of this. But there is sooo much more.
Glad you enjoyed the ad, yes it's just a tiny snippet of Australia, I hope you come to Australia, you will be welcomed.
Hi I loved your reaction , I’m a very proud Australian living in Queensland .
the theme song is by an australian artist...peter allen...its just wonderful and part of a great album called tenterfield saddler...qantas has used this song as its theme for years...always bring a tear to the eye....glad you enjoyed it...
Australia has very diverse landscape & variety of wildlife.
"I might be wrong. But I'm not wrong." That's also me during arguments lol
Hugh was actually in Melbourne
Score one for Andrei re the cities. The girls in the pool were the Campbell sisters who have about a million Gold Medals between them. The guy at the pool was Adam Goodes, a fantastic indigenous AFL player. (Australian football) Guys, if you buy the plane ticket from the millions you're making from YT, I'll pick you up at the airport. Lol. BTW, book a QANTAS flight. They are recognized as the world's safest airline, and they play this song as you board. I also recommend the "Great Southern land" video clip with Icehouse.
We are a very lucky country, we do have everything, come and visit you are very welcome.
Much love.
Come on over, you're more than welcome.💗
One of the best commercials ever.
Yes we have pink lakes that are a natural type of Algae. It really is an amazing country.
You guys are so cute! A great couple.🤣🤣🤣
You two had me laughing at your good natured argument, you'd fit in so well here.
All countries have their great parts. Be proud of your heritage. All are welcome here in Australia though please come visit 🙏
Yep it was London and then LA but one of the shot at 2:46 when hugh jackman started singing, so youre both right! :) Im from Melbourne, Australia. I loved your reaction this is classic aussie song
great southern land by ice house you will love the video
They show you the beauty of my country thats filmed all in Australia no other country
You are right. It shows Australians in other countries. Still calling Australia home. No matter how far roam" Also "I have time" 🤗
Hello …. this ad was to bring us together again after COVID Lockdown…..We all get Emotional watching this and listening to Peter Allens’ incredible song …😀😀😀
You 2 would be more than welcome by any Aussies who enjoy your reactions
Thank you! 😍
Yes in Western Australia they have several naturally pink lakes, they are safe to swim in.
I love Australia so much I've never gone elsewhere.🇦🇺❤️
Haha, you guys are cool! You make me want to visit Romania from Australia to meet great people!
I love my country, we sure do have everything...they are famous Australians being around the world. Yes that was London etc. ✌😎
I realize there are many pink lakes in Australia, but the only one I know of by name is Lake Hillier.
Love you guys, thanks for the reaction😁
We have a few pink lakes, mainly in Western Australia and South Australia. But I hope you do come one day
