- Earl Manigault was born in Charleston, South Carolina, and raised in Harlem, New York. He grew up playing basketball and practiced constantly. Manigault set the NYC junior high school record by scoring 57 points in a game in the late 1950s. While attending Benjamin Franklin High School, Manigault's life took a fateful turn when he began associating with the wrong crowd. He started using drugs and skipping classes. He was the star of his high school team and seemed destined for greatness in the National Basketball Association. Manigault was eventually kicked out of school after being caught smoking marijuana. He finished high school at a private academy, Laurinburg Institute North Carolina.

One of the most underrated movies and athletes of all time!!
The movie wasn't underrated it was a hit why folks so quick to use the word underrated on RUclips so darn much
@@anthonytaylor7928 it was a brilliant movie, nonetheless! & LaSalle the director should have been nominated! That's all
Facts
Yes that was a good movie and it's hard to find it to
Hands down
May he rest i peace. Met him and Ed Cota at a basketball award ceremony. They gave speeches and handed out trophies to us players. He was such a down to earth person who was willing to give advice and talk to everyone about life.
Haha the entrance Goat and his team made onto the court is like the entrance Jesus Shuttlesworth and his starting teammates made in the pickup game scene in He Got Game.
“They told you that you didn’t have to go to class….but the never said that you couldn’t” those words stuck in my head
THAT LINE MADE ME THINK OF AIR HOODLUM BY P.E.!
Rest in Peace, Earl "The Goat" Manigault.🙏
He was the GOAT before the GOAT! The original GOAT.
"The problem with you people is....you can play games....but you can't play THE GAME." #Mr.Charley
When I first saw this movie that’s the one quote that’s always stuck out to me.
This is the movie that made me fall in love with Don Cheadle as an actor.
Don Cheadle is so great
That double dunk at 2:22 is straight fire
Word 2 !
ALL-TIME PLAYGROUND LEGEND
Harlem all day, the GOAT may he Rest In Peace 🙏🏾
"FUCK, NOW WE KNOW WHICH ONE IS THE GOAT"
LOL
Classic movie... I am fellow New Yorker and the G.O.A.T was a player that everyone want to be! I wish this movie have more basketball scenes...
I played in a basketball tournament dedicated to Earl "The Goat"
🍪
I met Earl in the early 90’s at a gym in the Bronx… I’ll never forget the day.
Could he snatch a quarter off the backboard
Back when HBO was the shit
Classic 💥💥 a lot of people didn't even realize KG was in this 🦾
Great movie that’s never on! Anywhere……🌎🏀🔥
Wow i remember this, watched it in New Orleans as a child
Damn, one of those movies i forgot about but then when i remembered it(it brought back memories i also forgot about in my life.
One movie that Kareem said and I will never forget the GOAT was the best player he ever seen and played against
This was one of my favorite basketball movies. Sad the Goat got caught up in drugs.
Man he Goat! Manigault. His fame was legend by the time he was doing the "double slam" and making money betting people he could give them change for a dollar off the backboard.
I love the scene where he dunks in college as Clarence Williams III looks on in disbelief 🤣
RIP CWlll
Ups like that in chucks is unreal
THATS 2 POINTS MOTHER FUCKERS! ahahahhaah funniest line
"...that's the problem with you people--yawl can play games but yawl can't play thee Game." Great point of view by the athletic-sport track coach.
I hate to admit this: But that coach was right. Earl brought all that on himself.
I watched this brilliant movie once.. and I was like why is this movie not talked about.,... thanks for uploading
Classic scene! NYC playground legend!
The best Basketball movie.
Great movie. Thankyou for the upload.
This was a great role played by Don Cheadle as The Goat.
A legend was born but got court up with the wrong crowd as many people do and dreamz are shattered ya got a spot in my hear Earl Manigault R.I.P man you have created lengendz since you have been gone.
2 things dictate your success more than skin color and intelligence. Your mother's age when you were born and was she married when you were born. Js
Cloud Nine by The Temptations!!!
I Love this movie but it's not on TV a lot. Wonder Why?
Dion’s mouth made me laugh the whole movie.
"We play games but we can't play the game" that's sum RS💯
Loved this Movie
RIP 🐐
"...now we know which one is the goat".
Great scene, stemming from the first scene on the basketball court.
JOHN LEGEND 👑
Earl's game was a mixture of Russell Westbrook and Steph Curry on the offense and Hakeem Olajowan on defense, totally unstoppable.
How in hell could that be and they were not around yet genius Earl game was a mixture of earls stop with all of the dumb comparisons
Comprendo dedoes!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂
ill scenes from the BKLYN ball courts to Chill's crib.
Classic real hoopers know
R.I.P to the original G.O.A.T. Founder of the Rucker.
Stop the bus! Stop the bus! Open up! Open up! He paying! He paying! He paying! He paying! I'M PAYING! SHUT THE DOOR AND GGGGOOOOOO!!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Streetball Legend.
@VitalSigns1 Just becuase a player didn't make it to the NBA, doesn't mean that he doesn't have the game to play pro!!! Now I agree, there isn't any video to prove how great Earl was, but if Kareem "Mr. Sky Hook" Abdul Jabbar says that Earl was the greates ball player he's ever seen, then I'm inclined to believe him!!
Regardless of how good he was or looked, he dominated legit legends like Kareem and Wilt.
People saw that much.
2:22 Gerald Green... Watch and learn.
Great performances by everyone in this movie
That double dunk was the shit back in the day, now it's just a regular basketball move
Sports is life
great movie!!!
Thats The Real Goat 💥
The swag walk from team Uptown
He got on that dope game over street park basketball 🏀 legend Yo.
Great Movie....
Fon Cheadle is in a movie every decade since the Harlem renaissance
Never seen this movie but this hooping scene is super dope
"That's the problem with you people...you can play games, but you can't play THE GAME."
What you gone do Earl 😅😂❣️🤣😆😆😅😅😅😅😅😂❣️😂🤣😂😭😭🤣🤣😂😭😂❣️😂 better MF better MF Heard MF
Love this Movie”
Never seen this movie. Glad it popped up in my recommendations lol
Jumping up and putting the doallor Bill's on the backboard was some amazing at his size thats crazy
My guy Earl "The Goat" Manigault
2:22 double dunk
5:30 top of backboard
I haven’t seen this since I was a kid
He could have been the greatest
5:25 one of the most amazing things I v ever seen.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
8:44 LMAO hahaha thumbs up if you agree
A damn shame a gift gone to waste.
If he would have competed in the high jump & with the basketball we would be talking about a different type of legend.
I understood exactly what coach was saying
Back when one J could get everyone high and you could play combat basketball .. To bad what happened to Goat n this . Great movie !
When you could really have beef and settle over hoops boy times were different
I saw this flick probably 20 years ago and those couple of lines by the coach always and i mean ALWAYS stuck with me.
yes his 'general observation' was a slight at a group as a whole thus racist, i understood that then and I understand that now.
BUT
i've used his 'play games but not The Game' as a learning tool for myself throughout my life.
You have to be hard on yourself b/c, in truth, nobody else gives a f78k about what you're going through.
Coach played a racist a33hole in this scene but he was still dropping knowledge that would have helped Earl throughout this film and his life.
You have to find inspiration all around your person.
Be well peeps
It's true then and now. 2 things dictate your success in life more than race or intelligence. 1)your mother's age when you were born. 2) was she married when you were born. JS
@@jamescowan3651 Not doubting your words but I've never heard anybody say something quite like your 1) and 2) examples before...which is somewhat intriguing.
Care to elaborate a little bit?
I love some new knowledge.
@@jamescowan3651 that theory was pulled straight out of your rectum, especially when it comes to successful black sportsmen.
Great movie. But that party scene how dudes trippin 😂😂
Funniest pt. 8:32 - 8:48 ! OMG :D
how green tank top guy after goat dunk the ball , run first , and suddenly manigault appear he the running first what???? he (goat) do spectacular double dunks (consider 2 pts), now He's the "FLASH" WTF ,he's no Human ,Double fit same time (DUNKER & RUNNER)!
2:57 HE PAYIN.. HE PAYIN.. HE PAYIN.... HE PAYIN.. IM PAYIN!!! SHUT THA DOOR
He should've did the high jump
He should've done his schoolwork
exactly
High Dunker Dupoy learn double dunk from the GOAT !
5:26 now you tell me what the nike vertical leap is on that dunk
Don Cheeda has some basketball skills.
Why didn't he just go to track meets on the day? Seemed like a reasonable request. He was being a jackals there
This movie reminds me of my friends we did the same in in 2010s till 15 😂😂😂 went to other neighborhoods Play ball made bets won but we have to fight we was cool and civil smoked weed we Also was on the ball team
Wait a sec....was that the first ever Harlem shake @ 1:20 ?
Dude sounded like Eddie Murphy lol
Damn the local dealers was in good shape
i would love to see proof of him or anyone for that matter touching the top of the backboard. hell James White who is 6'7-6'8 and has CRAZY hops comes close but even he can't touch it(and this guy has done a between the legs dunk from the foul line. i'm old school and remember when david thompson was at N.C. state and the stories about him that he touched the top of the backboard and yet NO ONE ever put it on film?? won't beleive it til I SEE IT !!!
There's this guy called stretch who touched the top of the backboard. but it was measured at 12'9 not exactly 13 feet. Heard somewhere David Thompson could reach 12'4 max reach. Impressive but not close to 13 feet.
I SAW HIM DO THAT IN STJOHNS PARK IN BROOKLYN!
Wish he his OG would’ve steered him on the right path….dope film
This is the movie that made me fall in love with Nicole Ari Parker.
Choose your friends carefully
@8:45 LMMFAO.!! he almost broke a hip
yo i was dieing at 8:38-:48
Just imagine if he would have made the NBA he would have been better than Kareem and magic Johnson he probably would have got picked by the Lakers first. 🤔
man he steped on my damn corn man 23sec. lol
Cool azz coach
Shit talkin & Killin goes hand in hand with spodas. 50 yrs later nothing has changed. Sad but true. Js
