I feel like during that era a lot of 2D games were overlooked, because every one just wanted everything in 3D. I owned a PSX back then, but I don’t remember if I actually had any 2D games for it. So now it’s interesting for me to see just how many great side scrollers there were for those consoles.
This is a classic Mike Matei episode. I've watched this one most. Mike is hilarious imitating mega man and pee wee hermans voice. Just digging the banter plus it's a game I like.
Baby steps, that's cool. I know from experience the original xBox controller with the giant logo aligns perfectly with the forehead. Careful with others, I drew blood with an off-brand 360 controller.
Best part was the look on Mike's face when he hears Dr. Light's voice acting. "We may abe...be able to locate another energy emission from the wadar woom! If we find that meteor...we'll find Dr. Wahee!"
21:49 that hydraulic sound is in so many movies and games... most are actually from a certain royalty free sound library CD released long ago, including the one from doom
its my favorite mega man as well, my definition of mega man would be this game here. it always gets shitted on because of the voice acting (my guilty pleasure) but i do love the gameplay still
3:27:45 I think this is a good game EXCEPT it's too hard to tell when you have to slide and when you have to jump. They could have made that a little more clear.
I dont know what it is exactly, but the combination of his honest reactions to the games, his impulsive but relevant sense of humour as well as his imperfect but awesome humanity make him my favorite out of all the youtube guys doing comics, movies, and games and that stuff. It might be because he's meta but if so this time its okay.
Hi Mike. Since you said during the original stream to leave suggestions here; Jets & Guns is a humorous and generally pretty good horizontal shooter on PC/Steam that I think you might enjoy. To someone who has played a lot of shmups I'd imagine it's quite basic but what I think is one of the cool things in this is that you buy weapons and upgrades for your ship. And most importantly (to me at least) is the soundtrack which was made by the band Machinae Supremacy (a Swedish band that combines chiptune music and other videogame related sounds with very melodic Heavy Metal). There's also a sequel that came out last year (I think) but I haven't played that one yet. Knowing that it's highly unlikely that you'll read this (relatively) long comment I want to thank you for all the content you've provided here on RUclips and for the always so entertaining livestreams on Twitch! Hope you and Erin are doing well! /Stefan
it's too late now but just wanted to say that on that last snowboarding stage, staying at the right hand side of the screen doesnt make you go faster, it just gives you less time to see the platforms ahead of you, so if you stayed on the left side you would have easily been able to make those jumps!
I've suffered on JUMP JUMP SLIDE SLIDE so seeing Mike do too makes me happy. The only difference is he beat it after an hour but I gave up. For the record I was ALSO playing the Saturn version, and a few years later I beat it on the Playstation. That controller(d-pad) is better!
Very solid game the saturn was a 2D god mode machine one thing i always loved about sega is that arcade sound always made my badass aiwa sound like an arcade cabinet 😂
Who decided that we want to hear our player characters talking throughout the entire game? I certainly wouldn't want to hear "POWER SHOT!" every time I charge my weapon.
played this game all the time on PS1 years ago and totally forgot about it, could never get past the first bosses so watching this was a pleasure. Thanks Mike. The background scenery and chill background music in this game is some of the best I've ever experienced in any platforming game, ever
I used to think Clown Man's stage was my least favorite in the series until I played Bounce Man's in 11. Both are annoying but this one has been dethroned as the worst in my opinion.
I like how Mike was losing his mind not only during the infamous skate-sequence but also during the whole credits (for no reason). I'm glad he liked MM8 though; I believe it's very underrated and it looks gorgeous.
When I was a kid Mega Man was my favorite series. I remember saving up change for months to be able to get a copy of MM6. MM8 is actually the game I wanted a playstation for. When I got it, I didn't realize you needed memory cards for it, so I'd just play through this game start to finish. I've beaten this game so many times. Only part I remember frustrating me was the Frost Man stage. I thought the mega ball was a nice nod to the terrible Mega Man Soccer game. Never understood the hate this game got later. Or 6 for that matter.
I used to have that jessica rabbit standee in the background. Not exact one but I used to work at movie theater. It's how I got it. I like that your playing rts games some lately too. Games like megaman take a laser focus at points
Love this game. Always a bit thrown off that Mega Man can't duck. In the original NES versions it makes sense he can't- he's super short. But in this game he's like Luigi height and it always seemed like he should be able to squat down to fire lower or avoid enemies, bullets, etc.
Quite late to the party here, but I loved Mega Man growing up and was so pumped to play a "modern" version on the PS1. Oh, man what a treat I was in for with the voice dubs! I couldn't believe it. Great to relive that moment when you first saw those cut scenes 1 hr 30 in! I, however, could not for the life of me get past the damn jump jump slide slide in Wily's castle. So sadly ended my time with this game.
I might be in the minority when I say that Megaman 8 is my favorite and im very sad they didnt continue this design. As for the voice acting Mike, (or lack thereof) it was Capcom in the 90's....what did you expect haha. Remember Resident Evil only a few years earlier?
@@mikematei Yeah, it does seem like the game is extra puzzly for a Mega Man game. It makes me think of earlier Kirby games, like Dreamland 3 or Kirby 64, particularly the dark room where you have to use a specific power to light it up so you can find out the correct color sequence at the end.
It's always infuriating to watch him pop in any Megaman Zero game, because he can't pause through the opening story, he always quits before starting. >n
Just did my first playthtough of a megaman game I unfortunately overlooked as a long time fan. Loved it. The snowboarding was a bit annoying, but its gotta be your controller fucking you up so bad. Loved this game, but wont be revisiting it any time soon. It was tough and frusturating as hell lol.
Mega man 8 Sega Saturn is cool from our time, I prefer mega man anniversary on PS2, or the x-box one game for mega 8. Next time play the FC version of 8 on twitch:) Keep Awesome mike, keep on gaming always.
Defense Grid 2 would be cool. I beat it last year after watching your Defense Grid 1 stream. Dungeon Warfare is cool, but it gets very repetitive after about 10 hours.
There are a few differences between this and the PS1 version and I prefer to play on the Saturn. If you like the PS1 controller better you might want to play that version instead.

I love this era of super polished 2d games.. The animation, speed, and cd audio is still incredible.
As an audio guy CD still has my favorite sound all these years later imo it hasn't been surpassed even with flac files i love CD quality
Criminally underrated Megaman game. One of my faves

I like how Mike's mood instantly improved after "that level".

True story. The door one was used a lot too. Also for example the zombie troop death sound is actually just a camel groaning believe it or not.
Finally my favorite game in the series gets some recognition!
