I beg to be different. The Brother Johnsons can sing just listen to Strawberry Letter and I'll Be Good To You .... very very unique songs .,,,, disco yes but ahead of its time - Willis
@Odawg96 You make a good point about the word "underrated" but you are not right about me. Young person I'm not. Bassist for over 30 years and huge fan of LJ for most of that time I am. I stand by what I say - other far less talented bassists get more recognition TODAY. Just look at the Rolling Stone Top 10 Bassists of all time. LJ is one of a few important ones that should be there, but it's all subjective I guess - anyway.... We both recognise LJ's talent and contribution, so Peace..
RIP Louis...just heard the news. Why is there like ZERO press coverage on this huge loss...maybe the greatest slap player of all time. What a monster loss for all of us. God Bless George and the rest of his family.
ABC nightly news had coverage of the passing of Louis Johnson. They also mentioned he played the bass on "Thriller". RIP Louis...your music will live forever.
@HeyDavidiii Too many young people--and I'm assuming you are younger--use the term "underrated" WAY TOO MUCH. There's nothing underrated about Louis Johnson. He might be underrated to those who don't know shit, but to those of us who DO know and who DO play know how bad he is. Those who were around when bass players were when bass players--of which he was one of the most visible--were leading or co-leading bands know how bad he was. "Underrated" is an OVERRATED word.
Not to mention, it looks like the band is groovin', havin' FUN. Doesn't seem to be that vibe anymore. Everyone has to be sexy (read: trashy, vulgar) & bad-ass (read: so cool as to be detached.) NATURAL sexiness & bad-assery is what's goin' on here! Audience-inclusive rather than elusive.
This song was a great comparsition, it was from a most underrated write named Shuggs Otis. Before him everyone thumped but Louis began splapping the pick-ups and really began playing to the shair drum in his solo's. He went beyond the Major G scale in his approach
One of the most beautiful, haunting songs ever. (Thanks, Shuggie!) Summer of '77 this song was everywhere, and I NEVER tired of it!
Smokin Hot.......I saw them in the 70's....Like I said, Smokin Hot.
underrated? i've never heard that. i've never heard anything but deific praise for mr johnson.
I used to have the cd! It was great!!
Louis Johnson is one of the most underrated bass players, yet he inspired and was copied by so many. Even today the man is genius.
Just discovered one of their LP's at the thrift store. These guys are legit. Funky, Fresh, and Heavy. Time to dive into their catalog.

nice shuggie otis cover
no. George used a Harmonizer in another video
Great job I guess no one told the camera man to always focus on the guys doing the solo during the solo? Cameraman 101
we need all that ole music back it meant something
listening to the brothers johnson play live gives you a whole different appreciation of this song and the bad ass bass playing of louis johnson.

Sounds like shit compared to the released version.

Lee Ritenour plays the guitar solo, I think.
You'd think we all be coked up~but the promoters tell us to play at 77 1/3 to get through all the songs tomberriger
it's just one of those weird titles where the hook is repeated slightly different than the actual song titlet
RIP Louis
betty wright
It's a reference to the "previous" letter in the story the song is telling. The song itself is the "next" letter, or, Strawberry Letter 23.
