Ah, this CompUSA! For anyone interested, this location at 5901 Stevenson Ave was built and opened circa 1990 (or 91?) as soft warehouse (comp’s original name). It closed in 2007, became a Best Buy in 2009, but that closed in 2012. It was last a Big Lots from 2013 to Feb 2022. Today, the site is planned to be demolished to make way for land redevelopment.
When I was in 4th grade, I always looked forward to going to the computer room at school for computing class. We had those iMacs setup in the classroom. All the colors. I always chose the blue or blue-green computer because it's my favorite color. I always wanted an iMac of my own back then, but they were pricey.
same, except i was in 4th grade in 2009 and they were still setup and running. I remember that year they started phasing them out and replacing them w the LCD models (G5?). There was a stack of g3s with sticky notes at the back of the computer lab waiting to get picked up.
iMac G3, $1,299 on launch day. Seen in such great films as Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Clockstoppers. Godzilla 2000. Men in Black II. Scream 3. And Zoolander.
My childhood memories consist of that iMac in that exact green color. My mom upgraded and I got ahold of that green iMac. Still own that green iMac as I type this.
I'm glad you recorded and are uploading computer store videos. I was always most excited about computers and video games back in the day. And the iMac! I still have my original. It's not in perfect working order now, sadly, but I look at it as kind of a keepsake.
so funny, at 13:55 he says "it does not go through there, that's the thumb hole"-- the cables were actually supposed to go through there, but so few people did it correctly that Apple removed the door in later revisions
My very 1st computer that my grandparents gifted me back in early 2000s, mine was aqua blue colored, thankfully never used the internet on it I only would play games on it it was cool that I learned how to somehow use it overtime by myself how to insert the cd in the front & or turn it on and play it. I used to play the little wizard or ice age carnivores, or Mr potato head, the smelly mystery detectives or what I did like playing was little busy town. Ah the memories
Thankfully? It was marketed as an internet computer. That's what the "i" in the name was for. It had a modem and ethernet built in, and it included software to make it pretty easy to get an internet connection set up.
@ericwood3709 I seen someone selling one on marketplace for 50 bucks! Keyboard included but their not sure if it works. Heck I'd buy that haha, I still have a few disc's of mine that I would play on my imac
Yeah, it's sad how industry always tends to settle around the same look for a given class of product. It seems most of them just don't want to take risks. Apple did so with the iMac because it was in a pretty desperate state and had to try something. It was a gamble that paid off for them. But a lot of companies are not rewarded for taking chances like that.
The iMac changed EVERYTHING it was an entire aesthetic!! And it slowly killed off the Beige/white cased over the next couple years I’d say the last year I saw a white cased computer being sold new was about 2002?
Yep, Apple's new design aesthetic heralded the end of the beige box for consumer PCs. It was about damned time, too! The G3 tower was somehow even cooler looking than the iMac, and of course Apple put out matching displays. I got one with a massive CRT monitor that matched that aesthetic. It even had a cool tripod style monitor stand.
08:35 Quite funny a bunch of brand new 🍎 imacs going through the "HP gate" which makes me wonder what kind of innovative products HP have released in 1998 😅
I was 17 back in 1998. I remember when these launched. I wanted one, but I was turned off by the price, and the fact that it ran on Mac OS instead of Windows. Oh, and no floppy disk drive. I have been team Macintosh since 2004.

Aw man :(
Microcosm of brick and mortar retail America in the last 30 years
This is so cool. I'm glad people used to record things like this.
I think 1998 is my favourite year for computing. So many cool gadgets and games released that year.
Its when PC's became a lot more powerful! Pentium MMX!
favorite**
This content is addicting to watch. I literally sat there for hours on my couch drinking beer watching this stuff ahahahaha!

Nice choices Mark. I'd choose the same.

This is a great piece of archeology! Subscribed.

I used to hate seeing back to school signs in August when I was a kid. YUCK.
I wanted that so badly. But my parents wouldn’t let me have one.

Ahh, the black "Apple Specialist" polo shirts at CompUSA... I remember mine well.
Lucky

Thank you. 4 share with us . 😎✌️
I wonder, what those "Back to School" Bargains were. They looked intriguing!
And the awful mouse.
I remember those colorful bubble computers lol
Brilliant video.
Awesome! Glad you liked it David :)
I like that old font they used
I remember using these in my 4th and 5th grade classes.
I remember when these computers came out. They had a unique look. Everything sold today is basically the same boring design.

The 90s was the Golden Era
i wanted this imac g3 revision a (inside box) just to review it
They are still the coolest looking computer of all time in my opinion

The i-mac was iconic like the start of a digital age.
Think there was computers called tiny as well they weren't bad
The guy in the glasses putting the computer on the display like like bill gates😂
I'm not mad, -Bill Gates was hot-

4:59 Bruh... 😂

5:09 I thought that was bill gates 😂

You turned to the dark side?? (joking)
Man do I miss browsing walls of software.

🤣🤣🤣
Steve your in the shot... as in Steve Jobs? lol
Back when you could leave a $1,300 computer in the middle of a store and it won’t get stolen
11:22 Bill Gates is carrying an iMac 😁
Yay for Bill Gates lookalikes... ❤❤❤
32mb of ram. Probably equivalent to the 8gb of ram apple is using these days.
Com-pooh-sah.
