Hey Jane. Bradlees was one of my favorite stores growing up. The amount of memories I have there is incredible. Particularly the one in Stratford, CT on The Dock. We went there multiple times a week. I could tell you the exact layout of the store. That's how well I know that place. Mind you.. I was between 1-15 when I went there. It's just not the same anymore. I stopped by it yesterday for the first time since 2003. So 19 years since I been in that parking lot and it's a shame. All stores completely different. They knocked down Bradlees and built a BJ's Wholesale. So the entire store is not even the same shape or anything. Completely different structure. They had a water fountain ⛲, knocked that down for addition parking. Walmart across the street. Gym. Storage facility. I'll never go there again. Just curious, since you worked at Bradlees. Do you have anything from there with the Bradlees name on it? For example a vest or shirt? Bags? Anything really.

This video reminded me that Bradlees used two different keyboard configurations on the IBM 4683s, depending on where the register was located. Front end checkouts used the standard POS keyboards and two line display, jewelry and electronics used the full alphanumeric keyboard. They probably had some GSA user exits that prompted for alphanumeric entry in these departments, so they needed the full keyboard. Also, Bradlees was one of the few big chains I was in that used the LCD customer displays; many chains used the double-sided alphanumeric display (Ames) or had two single alphanumeric displays (Hills). I'd love to see what user exits they incorporated into General Sales Application at the time.
That software IBM General Sales Application now owned by Toshiba is still in use Today by Walmart and Academy Sports all tough heavy modified and with a touch screen GUI on top
They had cell phones at that time and pagers 📟 you didn’t see people with them out chatting away because it was expensive to use them. We use them much more now because it’s far cheaper. Unlimited calls and texts these days and it also contains our entire lives in it. Don’t be fooled though, long before cell phones people still had their heads down be it through music players, newspapers, computer usage (obviously not in a store) and books. Those fortunate enough to have a cell phone were able to get important messages from their loved ones or work, rather than roaming around all day and having no way to contact anyone without tracking down a pay phone.
What sucks is that I remember buying things in 1995... I was really young but I remember it. It doesn't seem long ago until you see commercials and videos from that era. It is strange to see such nice Bradlees stores built in the mid 90s compared to the majority of them that opened in the early/mid 70s that most of them were. The chain was starting to fail by this point but the newer locations were good looking stores. We were trained on greeting the customer, making eye contact, smiling, offering assistance proactively, and thanking them for shopping in our store. Caldors and Bradlees were my 2 favorite growing up.
As you said, they competed in the same area.. Very similar to what Walmart & Target is now.
Although I don't like Walmart or Target.
Bradlees and Caldors were great!
The sound of the old cash registers gives me a dopamine boost lol
Great sound, right? 😉
Lmao
I used to love clothes shopping at Bradlees
I bought a lot of housewares for my 1st apartment at Bradlees and Lechmere.
5:07 eww house phones. Glad those went away lol
It's 2023 and I still have one. I only have a landline phone because I need it for the internet package with my provider for my home
Prank calls on the house phone..
Never did it?
omg i remember bradlees.
what date in 1995?
you know none of these people are gonna pay back the credit card 💳 bill
If they're anything like my mom they paid their credit card bills using other credit cards lol
Why did that kady duck at 1:02
1995 or 2001?
late 80s thru mid 90s went to the north Brunswick nj Bradlees and Caldor
Like how the Crest toothpaste came with a toothbrush!
Neat idea, huh?
@@vampirerobot just more cost efficient that way. Seemed like companies then were looking out for its customers. Single toothbrush can cost $3.99
Bradlees ahhhhh
Customer service back then was literally non existent 🤣
Not so! I worked at a Bradlees and we were trained (and reminded frequently) on providing excellent customer service! None of this "Sorry it's not my department " as the clerk walks away. We were trained on greeting the customer, making eye contact, smiling, offering assistance proactively, and thanking them for shopping in our store. I also remember multiple instances where one of us went "above and beyond " for our customers. Sure, there were a few complaints over the years but to this day, I run into former customers who long for Bradlees to return!
Holy shit Michael Keaton batman
I've never been to bradlees, I was 6 when bradlees shutdown back in 2001.
9:12 that Bradlee's was poppin' lol taco bell/ haagen das in there?
That's the year I graduated high school. Never been to a bradlees.

You mean Reagan?
@@laurenlongfellow9714 This was in 1995 Reagan wasn't president then.
@SupaNami Reaganomics had already been put into place before this. And it's only gotten worse in the decades since. Reagan was the worst president for the economy and making corporations rich while stealing from the middle class. We're still suffering from his trickle-down bullshit today.
My first job was Bradlees in North Andover Massachusetts way back when dinosaur roamed the earth 1986 lol
I wonder why Bradlees failed but Target thrived...
Bradlees paid their employees well and offered full medical benefits. They were a union store.
Vampire Capitalists who extracted the money and left the smoking pile for the creditors and employees to take care of.
When Bradless close down
They went bankrupt in 2001 if I’m not mistaken
Batman new vhs 😭
That Baby is 28 like me
The house phone
Notice the music Michael Jackson
I see their problem they tried to copy Kmart.
Bradlees, K-Mart, Walmart, Ames & Woolworths were basically almost the same stores but seems like Walmart had won the compaction.
Hey I don't think those shopping bags are biodegradable!
Never heard of consumer credit card
Back when it was OK to be white, straight, and Christian.

Lmfao 💀 wtf
That's why it was a very civilized habitable society Those were some great times Now there is too many satanic demonic mentality disturbed weirdos that roam around society today And it's also because of too much black supremacy today And because of the third world barbaric savages that come to the United States and bring their third world barbaric savage culture with them They don't want to respect American people or culture or assimilate to the American way of life or don't want to learn or speak the English language Godliness, Goodness, Greatness, Gloriousness and Graciousness must reign again God Bless
