I forgot how hard and unforgiving the old vaulting equipment was. The new vault is bigger and has spring.
If you can find it, the vault that Lilia did at the 96 Olympic Games team finals, is super scary! Me and several friends have often wondered how she didn’t blow out both of her knees with the way she landed.
The vaulting table is certainly bringing some improvement, but wow, these blind landings can be super scary. I hope no one goes for the Amanar if not fully ready !

These are some INCREDIBLE athletes and this is such a good demonstration of how difficult what they do is.

I’d never seen the vault at 2:38. Didn’t she tear her ACL again doing the DTY? Brain dead coach letting her do that
she luckily didn’t get injured here… but later that year in 2013 at worlds, she injured her knee on this same vault during the vault finals
What country do each of the gymnasts compete for?
I was watching this right before my meet last night and i ended up getting a 1.0 on vault because i touched the board and didn’t vault
The vault is hard I but personally I love beam and bars better than floor and vault

Yes, she "survived" this time but got an ACL tear 5 months later at Worlds
@@sporteverywhere I know I was there to see it live :-( she never recovered from it. So much potential lost.

Why does Simone have a spotter? Not saying it shouldn’t happen but never happened before for anyone else!?
She uses one for mental confidence but gets a deduction for it.
Her coach stands there as a spotter. He insists, possibly because the vault is so difficult, and she has not been in training for 2 years. She has said that she can do it without him there. I am sure that by the Olympics, he will no longer be standing on the podium. He probably wants to see her perform it a certain number of times before he feels comfortable with her doing it by herself.
You cannot safely bail out of a double Salto. Something goes wrong she’s on her head or neck.
Her coach set the rule if she’s going to compete if he will spot her period. It’s not her choice. She’s lucky she didn’t break her neck in 2021 and has such good air awareness because getting lost on an amanar would mean serious, probably career ending injury for anyone else.
