In my opinion it will come down to the hands. If they are to do delicate human tasks they will have to replicate the human hand, one of the most complex parts of a human and what together with our brains has helped humans become as dominant as we are. Don't underestimate the power of the opposable thumbs.

LOL you clearly have ZERO clue what you're talking about. They're literally developing batteries that run off salt, The next wave of batteries are going to 'solid state' batteries. They haven't even suggested the cost of production, Mass production isn't going to be an issue if they WANT them mass produced...which they won't. They will be made to order as tesla's robots are. Ai is making leaps an bounds, elons own AI is truely open source and one of the best out there. The new version of atlas has dexterity in its hands.

BD (and many other) robots have a uncomfortable dystopian air about them. They're not something people are going to want to be around and for the most part are controlled via game controllers. They also generally move with a jerky, unpredictable movement. Looking at the BD (and other) videos, notice that even their "handlers" tend to avoid being near them in order to avoid injury. These are areas where Tesla's Optimus diverges from the norm.

I know that recent AI is close to AGI. The neural networks learn a lot like humans do, and although it's different and more efficient in some ways, there are still things that have to be overcome, like will power, motivation, etc. It has things down like creativity and mimicry (the ability to copy something it sees or hears, etc.) already to a high degree. Because of the way neural networks work, there is no need to program a robot to do something. Take Tesla's full self driving for example. It was and is doing things that it wasn't programmed to do. It figured some things out on its own.

Tesla will likely be far ahead on a truly general purpose bot, at an affordable price, and the other manufacturers will likely cash out by selling their companies to large global manufacturers who will still not be able to catch Tesla and will instead focus on niche commercial segments.

@@whowhy9023 None of the above means anything unless
you match it to the White Paper that defines the robot.
and that gets back to the First Principles of any robot.
The First Principle of any robot:
      Hands that do work
How many hands? 2 - 4 should do it
Motion - anything that will allow the hands to get to a job that needs to be done
legs maybe - track locomotion maybe - tentacle motion maybe - hundreds of ways to move the hands around
Spacial navigation - LIDAR maps out the area and IDs everything found
Vision - 360-degree - depth perception is done with LIDAR
I'll stop there - listing random things about a robot means little
but that's the Elon way of doing things - throw crap at the wall and see what sticks

It really doesn’t matter who creates the first genuine synthetic life form as the end result will be the same i.e. we are the biological boot loader for synthetic life :-)

It seems very over engineered. for robots to display humans as workers. You don’t need the body to do all that configure and contortion. It’s just extra money spent on things that don’t actually make it more useful. B dynamic is not serious about MASS producing a bot
