Have you thought about seeking funding, a loan, a line of credit, etc once everything is cleared up? I imagine your business will look most excellent on paper, not to mention the excellent "grade" you received from your audit with such a low error rate, near perfect tax returns.... You have a fairly large following on various social media platforms, which, I would think, would make any business you own a lower risk investment for a loan or line of credit... or at least appear so and especially so coupled with the performance of your business with absolutely 0 help up to this point. You say that you had to "lose half of your staff" in previous videos, so it would appear that you might just have the staffing ready for a 2nd location or at least enough staff to get things started...Especially if you have at least one person back in NY you could really trust to handle a lot of the startup and day to day of the new location..Of course I don't mean opening your business back up in NY, though that may be an option if you're willing to put it back on the table.... but would it may be be possible to open something somewhere in NJ close to NYC or even CT that's somewhat close by? Just a thought...I'm sure you've probably thought about this, but it just occurred to me while watching your video here and when you started speaking about not looking to the past, it made me think about looking toward your future...You're still plenty young and you still have plenty of time to turn these past "transgressions" in to future prospects if you so desire. At least I believe you could grow your business in all the ways you spoke about (with the possibilities if you weren't jacked by the local moron and clerical error) from here on if you really wanted to do so and if you stay determined....It is obvious to me, to lots of your followers/fans, that you are an extremely capable individual. Anyway....like I said, just a thought if you haven't already had it. Good luck out there. I'm sure you'll be successful in whatever you so choose to pursue. All the while being a great man. Much respect.
No. I moved once self funded, semi failed, let go of ten people over the past 30 months and started over as a smaller company halfway across the country. I'm worn out. The time for that was 7 years ago, 5 years ago, even 3 years ago. Now I'm just kinda done. I had a certain zest and excitement for this in 2016, again in 2018, 2019. Lame answer, not the answer people are looking for, but the truth for now.
@@rossmanngroup I have experienced similar things in my own country. And when I am ready I am going to put it all in writing and sue my government. They will either take responsibility or I will have to do my civic duty and serve it to them myself. Governments and their employees being corrupt, disinterested, not taking their job nor the law nor the person sitting in front of them seriously, not doing their job, not listening... thus destroying lives... and civilians letting them get away with it, because they are shielding themselves and each other from taking the responsibilities required, is *THE* cause things like this keep on happening and not just that, it keeps getting worse. For one reason and one reason alone: governments and their employees almost never have to bear the brunt for their mistakes. And I am done with that. I hope many are and that they all will rise to the occasion so things can change nice, neatly and quietly. Because if not? I have zero problems doing it the messy way. People too need to start taking responsibility for the failing of their governments. If we want things to become better that will be the only way. Thanks to corruption and disinterest everywhere in the West.
Hi Louis! You've done great. I own an engineering and manufacturing firm and started in much the same way you did. The best testament to the success of a company is the satisfaction of its customers. I would like to also mention that over the past year, through your influence, I've worked with my engineering team to publish fully accessible schematics and repair instructions for our machinery (we build fire fighting apparatus) to help our customer get the longest life out of our machines. Thank you for your hard work!
You intelligence and generosity will save lives. The last people who need equipment failing are fire fighters and an enormous number of fire fighting units are volunteer which means small budget. Thank you.
The worst part about all this isn’t the business cost, it’s the possible family Louis could’ve been raising all these years. At the very least after all this Louis’s eventual kids will be able to say “I’ve never been to New York in my life.”
This is how a "love-hate" relationship with New York becomes a "hate-hate" relationship. In the last video when you said "if more people were like you I would've stayed" and she said "we operate in Albany." I could sense some heartbreak there.

@@yash1152 New York can be characterized in three parts. Those would be upstate New York, New York City, and Long Island. Upstate NY is the largest portion (land-wise) being north of the city and much less urban to the point of being rural/near-rural in some places. NYC consists of the five boroughs Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Staten Island and The Bronx. Long Island is the the rest of the island east of Queens and Brooklyn (these two boroughs are technically on Long Island, but they are not really considered a part of it as they are subject to NYC jurisdictions) which is divided into the two counties of Nassau County and Suffolk County. I imagine that "downstate" in this case means NYC and Long Island, but it could also be used to indicate movement as opposed to a specific area (i.e. moving downstate just means moving south within the state whereas moving to downstate means moving to a specific region).
I found Louis because I was into building Guitar pedals, looking for soldering and general electronics tips. I don't repair circuit boards, I don't own, or even care about Apple products. I stuck around the last 5-6 years because of Louis. Obviously I don't know him personally, but from watching possibly thousands of videos and being a good judge of character I feel like he's a good and honest man, I genuinely feel his pain. Louis, if you see this brother, you are a great force for good. This crappy planet needs you and more folks like you. There's hundreds of thousands of young men, and I bet at least a few young ladies, that look up to you. When you bounce back from this and are stronger from it you will inspire so many young people to be all the more resilient.
If this appears on any credit reports (there are a bunch of credit agencies that could have this beyond the big three) you can potentially bring suit under the FCRA (Fair Credit Reporting Act). This can possibly be brought against the Dept. Of Finance in NY. I’d recommend looking into an attorney as many in this field work on contingency (mine does in CA) Important note is the SOL is two years from the date of last reporting.
This doesn't show up on personal credit. If it did, I would've seen it immediately since I track this regularly, my FICO score bounces around a range from 790-810.

The biggest risk of businesses getting credit is that you expand too fast and get overextended. Yes, it cost you but it also forced you to slow down and not expand too fast. I hope this experience prepared you to take the next steps in expanding your business and to use the credit wisely, not as an excuse to expand, but as an income smoothing factor that makes it easier to take the next steps.
God I can't imagine what the fuck that feels like. Some moron because of a typo or whatever ruined someone's life. That's an insane thought to ponder on.
When that realisation hits you.. Louis take some time off and some deserved rest. "This isn't fun anymore" - I agree. I've felt similarly trying to save up to buy a house. I've worked 80+ hour weeks, paid my way through a bachelor's degree, saved and sacrificed short term fun for long term happiness only to have the prices keep going up faster than I can save for a down payment. I kept pushing and pushing until I had a panic attack and could not do it anymore. Now I'm unemployed, half my savings are gone, and I have no idea what my life looks like six months from now. All because too much of the economy is managed by utopian ideological bureaucrats who think they are saving the world, while acting as the stumbling block holding it back. I want to own my own home, and eventually own my own business, but I struggle to see a way forward past all the red tape.
They aren’t actually utopian. They want us broke and broken. “You will own nothing and be happy.” We have an enemy occupation force pretending to be a legitimate government. Best of luck!
One thing I've always appreciated about you is your openness to share your failures and hardships while mixing in funny comments along the way. This kind of reinforces my belief that honest people tend to get screwed over, while the cheats and liars seem to get ahead.
New York is a failed state. Many individuals make mistakes but the system failures around this lien are shocking. You are an inspiration to so many people. This is a brutally honest video and shocking to watch. We understand the rage you must be feeling. I think time will heal this and hope it won't take too long. New York owes you answers and this deserves nationwide publicity.
I feel sorry for Louis, I don't really understand how people can say New York is a failed state. From my perspective, the system is doing exactly what it was designed to do. All of politics is reducible to the friend/enemy distinction, and Louis hasn't exactly been a friend of the State of New York in recent years. All states, whether local, State-level, or federal, desire to reward its friends and punish its enemies. TL;DR its not a bug, its a feature.
I hope Luis, or any other person fucked over by NYC incompetence will sue them into bankropcy. Yes, at this point I want the city goverment to just bancrupt.

Louis, you've accomplished so much at this point in your life in spite of all of the shit that has been thrown at you. Now, if you really wanted to you could file suit against them for having an actual and measurable negative financial impact on you and your business where NY has openly admitted to doing the wrong thing; this sounds like a clear cut case. If you did file suit then it would be something that could have an actual impact in a positive way for other New Yorkers, because I'm certain that there are many others like you and the bureaucracy doesn't change unless it's financially impacted. There are a lot of use watching for the same reason. Unfortunately, the government does not really let itself be sued in general. There are a lot of states where they have payout caps for law suites against the state, in addition to a lot of other fees of varus forms to make pursuit extremally unprofitable especially after you consider the time and effort expended. In some cases they can delay for upwards to 10 or 20 years.
Despite being a tech (and 'real estate') channel, I watch many of your videos on life lessons and at times where I felt like quitting my dreams and passions due to things getting in the way, these videos helped me persevere. Hey Louis, I’m sorry this happened to you. A similar thing happened to my mom when she tried to sell her house. But she never got an answer for why it was it allowed for random people to put a lien on her house just because she had the same name as some awful person. Or why none of these people weren’t required to tell her which meant this had been going on for years.
All these issues would be solved if the USA would actually use a proper ID system. How can a country with almost 350 million people not have a system to identify people from eachother is beyond me.
@@Robbedem What, do you mean possibly, their 'Social Security Number'? Something that's been in their country for almost 90 years? The funny thing is a business can submit information about customers with outstanding overdue balances to collections agencies, and these agencies will go full FBI and uncover addresses and facebook profiles just to get you paid for your work. These are just everyday people working at a privately owned collections business doing all the legwork for a cut of the pay. How the hell can a federal agency, like the taxable revenue office or the state office, not bother to get off their ass and do a simple google search on a name and phone number to go "hmm it looks like this is a different address!"?
Louis I've never met you but I feel a connection to you on this. Back in 2019 I was pursuing a change in industry from IT into financial advisory. I built a portfolio for years, focusing at constructing a small fund in which to jump into that industry. One day errors and misreporting by our parent brokerage smashed us. When we got hit and weren't given much clarification. Information that the regulator received was an impossibility, we were told to reference forms that didn't apply to what were being hit with it led us down a path to collapse. I've spent the past few years wallowing at what I did wrong. I've thought many times how or what I could have done differently to prevent an error that turned out not even to be mine. As well as how it all could have been different. Even when I try build up again, it won't give me back the years that a clerical error took. Or remove my anger and frustration at the inability of an administration to fix an issue they couldn't even describe too me. Though all of that I and my cat Ms. Whitey soldiered on and will continue to do so, as will you Louis & Mr. Clinton.
Thanks Louis for this: I regularly come to your videos for one thing and that is your honesty and devotion to your skills. I have also burned out at the thing I do best about 10 years ago and decided to throw in the towel then. Today I regret letting those 10 years go by without focusing my energy on my art but I am back in the saddle and have never been happier. I don't know if the hiatus or time spent reflecting on myself and my craft was the ultimate cure but I can say this: everyone knows what feels right to them. Sometimes you gotta listen to yourself (with the guidance of close friends and family) and just stay on track no matter how bullshit all the noise gets. The noise doesn't know you but you know you. You are doing good work and we all love you for it. 💜
It does sound like a very sneaky sabotage. They created a very mild lean on your business in such a way you were unlikely to discover it. Sending it to a PO box ensured that no one would ever read it and let you know. Being such a small amount of money also ensures that it won't get escalated. If it had been $10k then someone would have come knocking and you would have had the option to address the problem. $1500 and it can just sit there tainting your credit rating.
@@neoasura Tbh, probably this. There is a lot of corruption in the business space. I'm suspicious as to when the lien actually appeared- it _says_ 2012, 2013, 2014, but did it really? Then again, incompetence over malice and all that.

It feels very much like it was a disgruntled customer working for the City office or someone who had contacts in City office who was the competition. I would definitely look into sueing the NYC for unspecified damages. In an ideal world the computer systems would/should log all city officials that logged into your accounts and made changes or logged or edited the Leans against you.

Trying to find the silver lining here. I think it is very beautiful that you found out about this sabotage solely because you have done so much to help people with right to repair. Because you are so good at finance and raised the money--and more importantly wisely spent the money--fighting for right to repair you were treated with the proper respect and given the just opportunity to find out the exact cause of what was holding you back. From one business owner to another, I 100% relate to what you are saying. Give yourself more time to see if your feelings don't change----but ultimately, if it isn't fun on some level---your future is too important to sacrifice on the alter of your past.
You said at the beginning of the video that we may not learn from this one. My key takeaway is that, if things are going suspiciously wrong (credits not approved, etc.), I should do a background check on myself to see if there’s anything like this going.
When you're in your 20-30s trying to start a business you just have no idea what constitutes suspicious or not. I have been declined for credit a couple times, or been quoted an astoundingly high interest rate, and I have no idea and probably never will have any idea why that happened. @@crissd8283 There's patterns to the incompetence. A big group of well-educated, intelligent, responsible people can support a relatively big, competent government. @@aguspermana8643 I think there's algorithms involved that will intake credit history and spit out an interest rate and maybe a confidence score, but it's up to the individual lender whether they want to use that recommendation or alter it. Especially with short term business, vehicle, or equipment loans there can be a sales person involved who tacks on whatever they think they can get away with and the willingness to lend can change a lot over time.
It's rough hearing someone be this miserable. I empathize a lot with getting shadowstabbed like this by people, whether intentional or otherwise. If litigation is an option, I would wholeheartedly support that, but I also know that when you get to this kind of point, you really are just too tired to care anymore and you'd rather just lay down and accept your fate. It sucks, man. I hope you find the strength to stand up again and move forward, eventually.
You should talk to a lawyer. There are many people responsible for this and you have damages you need to be compensated for. You legitimately have a case that someone needs to pursue for you. Don't brush it off. Hold them liable for their actions. They've done it to you all your life. You have ample documentation, hopefully you have all of your content archived. Champion this and hopefully you can keep it from happening to other people so more small businesses can succeed. *Edit* Don't give up. Don't let them win. You have accomplished so much, you are so strong and you will keep going. You've got this. It's just time to hold some people accountable for their actions.
I'm not really sure he has a case, but I'm not a lawyer. Certainly I believe he *should* have a case, but the government is very good at insulating themselves in various ways from damages when they screw up (or intentionally screw someone over.) Also, since it would be very hard to prove actual damages here, likely all he could get is a statutory amount, which may not even be worth the attorney's fees because often you don't get your attorney's fees paid by the government if you win a lawsuit against them (one of the many ways they insulate themselves from lawsuits.) Look up the issues with Civil Asset Forfeiture, as that is one of the major problems that comes with suing the government for that. Even so, I really hope there is a way to do it, but I'm not sure if it would be worth the mental toll if I were in his position. I don't know if I would do it or not given the option if I was in his position, especially given how depressed he was about it in the video.
I agree that he should talk to a lawyer but I'm not sure what would happen. The employee in the last video said Louis had to update the tax number from the temporary one and I don't know if they did that or not, or just filed their taxes with the new number without changing it, so there was two businesses. Obviously I don't think that exonerates the state since they failed to notify Louis by sending notices to the wrong address but maybe from their perspective they will say its his fault. He's gone through a lot but this time I really feel for him, I hope he has a good support structure around him cause this kinda shit would legit make me depressed...
He really should contact a lawyer and it is depressing to see what happened. I hope he can get justice and at least try to right some of the wrongs that have been done against him.

Don't let them demoralize you Louis. These things happen in our lives and seem so consequential but really work out in the end. I know this sounds cliché. But the "what if?" game will eat at you if you let it. Especially when it comes to things like relationships ending. Now you have a fresh start Louis. Take your frustration and work harder all over again. Holding on to the 'what ifs' for myself has really just hurt me rather than improved. Stirring in the past and how I felt wronged and what could have been done to make times less hard hasnt moved me forward instead it built up alot of emotions inside that I have to learn how to process and express in the right ways. You went around the monopoly game board and made it back to 'Go' collect the free $200 and restart. Its hard and maybe can't be done idk it depends on your mindset and resources. Time is is short, long and intangible but your actions can help you improve your time. Thanks for the rant bro.
@@graywolf2694 or give up and just be sad always idk what else can ya do? Work harder to get over the shit or stay chillin in the shit and be sad stuck in the past always 😥
@@graywolf2694for myself i don't want to work hard all over again. I want revenge and results when I want them. Like I actually agree with you wolf. But I still know that it isn't the way for me or for any1. I cant let myself metaphorically die by staying consumed in fear. I need to work harder to over come this moment in my life. I felt thats sorta where Louis is at too. We're all together in this sometimes.
@@graywolf2694 Sometimes you have no choice, some people start all over several times, but they keep on going. Like Rocky Balboa said its not about how hard you're hit, its about how you can get hit and keep moving forward.
I feel you. I was running my own business in an area that's notorious for being incredibly litigious, while running largely on the "good old boy" system. Long story short, I got tired of getting kicked in the nuts too. I wish you good luck and inner peace.
I feel very similar. I have to deal with right to repair related to auto manufacturers, and everytime I turn around there's a new program I have to purchase, or a new tool add on to what I've already got. I'm constantly bleeding money to try to keep up, then everytime I turn around either the state or the feds have their hand out ready to shake me down too. I am horrified every year when I have to do my taxes because I never know what kind of funs games they will want to play this year. I felt extremely frustrated earlier today, I honestly wanted to just quit too. So I did actually get something out of this video, it was cathartic to have someone dealing with related issues discuss their hardships because it makes it feel less like I'm in it alone.
Louis, you essentially went to a doctor and found out the cause for being sick wasn't just a cold but a whole state. And when you surgically removed yourself from that state you found out just how bad it was. The silver lining in all of this. As a result of all their awful treatments of you and all their awful incompetence you are no longer in that place where they can cause you such awful harm. I hope now that it is resolved business will boom for you now even more so.
I suspect it's typical to have such things on your account. When buying a house they found something and asked me about it. It turned out to be something I'd already paid and it was cleaned off my rating. One needs a professional who knows how to check these things, fortunately it was the person arranging my mortgage who found it as part of his job finding me a mortgage. If Louis had asked a broker or financial adviser to find him a loan then that professional would have discovered and dealt with the problem. Going to the lender directly was probably not a good idea.
Thinking about our past mistakes and "what if"s is unavoidable, but what you are doing is very helpful. Like you always say, you can only hope that someone will learn from it. That is another way you are making the world (hopefully) a better place. I hope R2R will happen in your lifetime, because you deserve it. I'm not saying you're old.
I just want to add that despite everything you managed to raise more awareness to what's happening in the tech world. I don't think I'm the only one who would be clueless about the things going on without your videos.
I'm prone to doing what Louis is doing here. I don't think avoiding it is helpful, so I like that he made this video. But sometimes I really analyze it. What could I have really done? What would have actually worked? Sometimes I conclude that yeah, things would have been better, but not that much better. It's easy to fantasize about how rosy something different would have been. Rosy fantasy is good if it motivates you, but not if it brings you down by comparing that to reality.
Louis.....I'm sorry you and your business had to go thru this. I've had to deal with personal taxes getting messed up by 2 different employers. I understand the pain you're going thru, and how frustrating it is. You try your best to make sure you're doing things correctly, and everything is squared away, only to get blindsided by other peoples' incompetence. In hindsight, maybe this turned out to be a good thing for you though. Your business not having a mountain of debt (I'm assuming) for a larger workforce or a super expensive lease, might have been the only thing that got you guys thru the pandemic. I hope you can get past this, and continue "the good fight". We need more business owners that care about their customers, and quality of service, ahead of the almighty dollar. I know it's cliche, but remember, "This too shall pass".
working the grind, getting sick of it, and two businesses later - in spite of knowing i couldn't fathom a different way at the time, i regret putting business and work over the humans in my life first. i'm finally running my business the way i should have: as a means to an end. not to get rich, not because i love it. because i need money to survive, and the second i meet those needs for myself and the others in the biz, i do not try to scale, i do not try to find more work. i'll never get those hours, those days, those years, those people, and my health back. i hate that the state screwed you like this, and made it easier for you to lose that time, your health, those people. whatever you can do to keep those three things, i genuinely hope you're able to find a way. also, you're right, cats are far better.
Thank you for talking about this, Louis. I believe you 100% - NYC and other so-called democratic governments are indulging in the 'tyranny of bureaucracy', and they've gotten so good at it that it's hard, if not impossible, to push back and make the world fairer. At least there's kitties, and even doggos (though I hope your friend goes for a rescued doggo if not a rescued kitty).
Even if it’s not fun anymore, please take pride in knowing that your experience is helping others and that you successfully made sure it was not for naught
Louis, you have been an inspiration on how to deal with hard times. I know dealing with the nonsense from the State of NY has been tough, but consider that you have fought through most of it already and now find yourself in a better place. You are a really good guy, and you deserve better. I really do believe things will only get better for you.
Hi Louis, longtime viewer here~ First of all, I wanna share my condolences for this whole situation… I’ve repeatedly tuned in to your channel, seeing how New York bureaucracy shenanigans were messing with you and your business. It was and is infuriating watching you go through that, but you always kept up a smile and kept pushing. I - and I think I can speak for many of the audience - admired your resilience in these situations and rooted for you and your cause more each time. I suppose after coming to know that you were “sabotaged”, be it by accident or by design of the system, it is not unheard of to feel burnt out. Furthermore, clinging to what could have been is not as fruitful, as you mentioned yourself, but you are also only human, so these kinds of thoughts are normal. Especially in regards to opportunities you could have had or how relationships could have played out differently. It sounds to me, you might need a break and work things out a little, so I hope you allow yourself some time to do that. Either way, I would like to thank you for your efforts on all possible fronts! They don’t go unnoticed, and it’s already making a difference, even just by the fact of more consumers being aware of the crap big tech tries to pull, and despite the pace of progress being a little different than what it potentially could have been. Wish you all the best~
Watching this felt fucking devastating, I can't imagine how this feels for you... Stay strong mate - the world needs you, we need you, to keep fighting this fight and making a difference for the better! You ARE making a difference - never forget that!
Louis You're a source of inspiration for many people. Even if you stopped all this and just faded away into the background today, you would still have left such a big mark on the lives of all those you've affected by going through this RUclips journey and sharing so much of yourself with us. We learn more through failure than success, even failure by proxy. You personally may have been better off had you not had the lien, but who knows maybe you weren't ready then, and maybe it would have doomed you to permanent failure. What I do know is that without you having gone through what you've gone through and sharing it with us, we wouldn't be better off. Think about that Louis. Think about how many people's lives you've affected for the better. It's unfortunate that you've had to sacrifice relationships and your personal time, however there's always a cost for altruism. You didn't even set out to be altruistic (based on your description of your motivations), but that's what it turned into. You're a positive example for the rest of us. How many people do you think keep pushing and keeping wanting to live because you share these parts of you? 100's? 1000's? That's real change Louis. Intangible and incalculable change that you can guarantee is there. Yes it's not *your* progress but it's not moot either. Success isn't financial, and it isn't always known. Success is measured by net sum good. I assure you that the cumulative of your experiences have resulted in net sum good for humanity. I've read many comments of people who are inspired by you directly and indirectly. I myself am one of them. We all struggle with our mental health , some more than others. We all struggle with our personal and professional lives, some more than others. We aren't all candid about it and we all don't help others learn from our mistakes. I suppose it's almost as if I'm describing you as a martyr, and that's likely little to no comfort on its face. However I hope you can find the bitter sweet silver lining that although your life could have been better, it would likely mean that others' lives may not have been. I personally gain strength from observing how you handle these situations, and I'm certain many others do to. That to me is your reward. That to me is your success. I hope you can see that you're a force for good in a world where good people and good acts are ever fleeting and few and far between. You make the world brighter Louis. Even if it's because your world may be a bit darker than it should be. Your brighten our lives by sharing that darkness with us and helping us learn and grow from it. Incalculable Louis. You'll never know how many people you've helped, but we know it's too many to count, and more than you'd ever have helped if your life was ever peachy keen. Stay strong, stay safe, and take 'er easy. If you can learn anything from this maybe it's that you're on a new chapter. Being a RUclips content creator, or a repair person, or spearheading the right to repair movement, those things don't define you Louis. *You* define you. Be whatever you want to be. Just live for yourself, those around you will understand or they don't deserve you. You aren't needy, and you aren't greedy. You're kind, compassionate, and caring. The world eats "yous, don't let it spit you out differet than your started. I wish you nothing but the best in life man. Much love to you and yours. /Jon Bon
Don't let it go. This is criminal negligence at best, I know we all would love to know what a lawyer thinks of all this. There's no way you don't have a solid case at this point.
You're in a better place now though. Once you' finally kick NYC to the curb, you can enjoy running a business in an environment that actually wants you there. It seems like NYC makes it so you don't want to run a business there, and its amazing how far you've gone in such a short time. I still remember your hallway office, the late night live streams I used to listen to while I was overnight trucking, laughing at the nerf wars in that place. There are good times you can look back on that you've had to help ease the pain of dealing with NYC and their anti-business antics. Don't think of yourself as anything other than succeeding at what you've done. I would've given up long ago. You're still young, you're as healthy as you ever have been in your life, your outlook is more positive given everything you've gone through, and its understandable that given the light of the current circumstances that you feel burned out. I would be too if I discovered that big of an F-up. Texas is your new home now, a pro-business state that many other, big tech firms are moving to. You made the right choices, its just NYC will be dug in you like an Alabama tick for quite some time still. Success has its ways of being obscured, and sometimes it takes an outside-in look to see it.
Louis let me say as a young man who is starting his journey I have found your content these last few years always entertaining. But honestly I have watched because of how you are honest and help me understand the concepts that I might otherwise not understand. I know you may not think of yourself in that manner as some one giving wisdom through your experiences but you honestly have. I can't I am happy for you that you got screwed over but I can say you have made an impact in at least my life due to it because you spoke about what happened. I know it doesn't make it better but I wanted to leave a comment expressing the appreciation I have for you and what you have done.
I hope you recover and things start going more smoothly after this. When I worked at a startup, I had a boss who talked about this. His personal metric was if he woke up 3 days in a row with that feeling, he'd make a change. Sure it's an arbitrary number, but it does remind me that there's a difference between challenging (which for guys like us is fun), truly hard (not fun at all), and "time to rethink".
I had a similar thing happen to me, where my life could've been ten years ahead of where it is if it weren't for one idiot, and I could've saved myself an insane amount of suffering and personal sacrifice... The thing that help me get over it was time of course, but also thinking about all of the unique and interesting things that I learned through the course of my hardship. A lot of really important lessons may not have been learned had this not happened to you. Maybe one of those lessons is what got you to the point where you are now with right to repair, or some other thing you care about. I'm sure you'd be able to think of a better example, but if you had gotten loans, maybe you would've had more resources to work around Apple instead of having to worry about right to repair issues as much? I don't know, but personally, I can point to several hard lessons that I wouldn't have learned if it weren't for what I had to deal with. Were those lessons worth it? I don't know, but I can at least believe that they were. I obviously can't speak for you, but you should consider that there's definitely a possibility that this clerical error put you in a better place than you otherwise would've been. Cheers
You got fucked over, I've been watching you for a while and it seems that this stuff follows you, as a result you're the most resilient man I've ever known of and to be able go say you've actually helped the world ontop of that is a great achievement
Man - I can feel your anger and rightly so - it's so incredible that as singular human beings the people whom did this would be just as outraged this was happening to them, but when employed as mindless drones of the state - it's clear they absolutely do not give a fuck, and would be entirely unrepentant in the face of your anger with the phrase "hey bud I was just doing my job" even with the contemptable irony of that whole phrase. I wish there was a way to sue the shit out of the cleric and the other institutional failings they continued to use. The moral is "be better at your jobs people - do it right because otherwise one day it might be you on the wrong end of shit like this." (as an FYI I'm self employed, the buck stops with me, if I fuck it up, I pay the price.)
People at these municipalities, NOT JUST NYC but all of them, have NO idea how much damage they can do to a person and a business simply by filing something wrong or putting a wrong number or comma in something. The worst part is they have the presumption and assumption of always being right and, thus, assume you are wrong and, thus, are usually unwilling to even give you the time of day to hear out the issue. And the only way to find out they had a problem is locked behind "privacy" for your own information in order to "protect" you. Even for my small business in my relatively small city, during the pandemic some of the treasurers people retired and the new hires didn't know what they were doing and suddenly decided I had been paying business taxes wrong for eight years. They don't assume that they, the new people, could be incorrect, they assume that not only I am wrong, but also their predecessor has been wrong for the better part of a decade. It's infuriating.
Fuck man, this hurts to think about. As a long time fan it is so weird to think about the time and effort that I have just seen from watching your content and thinking about the active sabotage of what could have been more private time, more positive effects on the world. I feel like you genuinely deserve success and happiness and it pains me to understand just the incompetency of a state can and it's employees has had done to you and burnt time that can't be returned to you. Much of your musings on being a good person and more deep talks through the years have guided me to be the person I am today, and it genuinely does pain me to think that your happiness and health has been scarified due to the stupidity of some rando who likely has no clue that his/her incompetence has done so much to make your life harder. I don't mean to dog pile on what seems to be already difficult emotions, but I can't help but be angry on your behalf.
Hopefully you begin to find the joy in running a business again, being away from a state and city that is incompetent to the point that it's basically malicious and hostile will make things better with time I'm certain. We appreciate the work you do and sharing your experiences and knowledge with all of us, keep being an excellent human being Louis!
I have been following you for years now and you are one of the inspirations for why I started studying electronics engineering, I remember watching your repair videos knowing absolutely nothing about electronics and eventually growing the fundamental knowledge to fully understand and appreciate the work you do. It makes me so sad that people genuinely refuse to believe that you can be punished for someone else's error, be it being unlucky or sabotaged. You've still made incredible progress for right to repair and I don't think it's anything to undermine. We are going to fight for our rights as consumers and human beings and I doubt that I'd see a future with this vision if it wasn't for you and your business.
Louis, I have been following you since the beginning of your RUclips, and growing my own business at the same time. You are reflecting my own sentiments right now. The government actively F's small business. They make it nearly impossible to succeed by imposing impossible taxes and restrictions, as well as paperwork for employees. It isn't just you, they actively try to screw any business which is thriving. The general public doesn't understand that with all their fighting about "taxing the rich", they are actively screwing themselves by preventing grass roots business from thriving. How exactly do you go form making $100K a year, and needing employees and a space, when your employees and space, blow your entire earnings, and government taxes and restricts you to death? All the good we could do in contributing and changing the world is not what THEY want, so they actively attempt to keep us down on purpose. They look for the signs of success and attempt to trample us. Their elitist buddies like elon musk all scratch each others backs and steal money from people like you and I who actively make a difference. We innovate, elon STEALS tax revenue and ideas and attempts to make them his own. He is in with his government buddies and actively screwing all of us. Government has failed people, the average joe just don't realize how badly it has failed people. it is why I have taken more active roles in fighting back, REFUSED to lock down, wear masks and put up with mandates. They don't want to see you succeed, I have been actively targeted as well, you aren't a rare case, it is the norm. Time to actively make change, but that demands making drastic personal changes on your end. Welcome to the resistance.
All those issues with NY state could have been avoided had you delegated the business management side to a professional accountant. Things like this are *why* CPAs exist. You ought to have retained a lawyer or even a law firm. You *can't* do everything yourself; you *must* delegate. As a person on the spectrum myself, this can be a very difficult thing for folks like us.
I also just found an error in my life that happened more than seven years ago. You have no clue how much I needed to hear this video today. "I take accountability and responsibility for the decisions I have made. I am grateful for where I am."
Honestly Lois I'm glad you are able to get this taken care of but now you will be able to grow your business more and not haft to worry about NewYork! Welcome to Texas where you belong!
@@rossmanngroup Personally I am waiting for the character arc where you cannot let go of the past and return to New York in a couple of years lol. Kind of like Casey Neistat.. I won't blame you (or anyone) if you don't. You certainly got fucked worse than Casey - well, in adulthood anyway...
I can relate to this all too closely & it makes me beyond sick. I was falsely accused, inherently causing the loss of my dream job AND best possible relationship with the most perfect girl I've ever known. All in one sitting, directly stemming from a false accusation of me & some shit I would never do. I will never get over it. I'm still dealing with the repercussions of all the bullshit. & Probably will never have the chance to speak to the one I held (& still do hold) most dearest to me, ever again... It's SO goddamn hard to let go of the resentment tied to what could've (SHOULD'VE) been if it weren't for someone elses FUCKTARDERY. I feel your pain Louis I really do.... I wish you the best brotha..
You are correct. NY inadvertently stabbed you in the back. A good outcome of the NY debacle is that it eventually led you to Texas. I was thrilled when you and your business moved to the Lone Star state. Nowhere is perfect but, IMO, Texas is full of promise.
It's normal to feel this way. That's not the only hurdle you're facing. It _was_ a lot of pain and a lot of struggle. It _did_ fundamentally change the trajectory of your life. You'll wake up tomorrow, another day, and things will continue. The maybes might haunt you- at least mine do sometimes- or maybe they won't. You keep on keeping on. Side note- this is where people often fall into drinking or other addictions. Cats are a lot better, yes.

Yeah, i've seen that rout too. My dad used to have a trucking business. We were the best company in or field. The best. But then, a couple of errors on our part, Polish bringing in fuel subsidies for their companies and a change in management of our largest clients resulted in company going bankrupt. Fast forward to twenty years of indebtedness, because the company didn't take the debts with it, break up of the family... And to this day, my father is still paying interest on all those business debts.... Dad never went to college, he's effectively in student loan teritory.
💯 EXACTLY. That's why when the time is right for us, it will be goodbye Australia. Australians made their choices with respect to me. Now, they live with them. You're a very intelligent man. I would work and do business with you as long as the conditions were right.
thanks for sharing, many of us has similar and worse stories. And your emotions are absolutely spot on. Don't suppress, let them grow. Rent-seekers parasite on working people who actually produce something and if we will ignore it, it will go exponentially worse.
You should pull an official credit report on yourself and sue them to remove anything relating to this. It's not enough to show that there is no present lean. You also need to show there was never a past lean and get your reputation back.
@togowack It's not my responsibility to get your data back either - but it is a service we offer, and provide to customers who are eligible for it. What is your point?
@@rossmanngroup The person's not worth your time. I can't even see the person's comments, except for one in notifications (which disappears once in the comments section). They seem to be triggering YT's new and improved spam filters.
I can not fathom to imagine how much rage you must be feeling. That a higher force was constantly sabotaging you during the best time of your life without you knowing, without any wrongdoing on your part. I know you must feel the sense of failure in life and there's not anything anyone can do to reduce it, only time will heal. What I want you to know you are role model, your work ethic is something I inspire to have, and your sense of doing the greater good is beyond any ordinary person. And I would give you a hug if I were near you. Best of luck, do what's best for you, your mental sanity and your economical future. If that means giving them hell so be it. Pettiness is healthy sometimes.
All i can say is thank you for your persistence. Knowing what you know and why, I can only imagine the stress and anger generated by knowing this information. While this won't fix it, I hope you can take some comfort in knowing you have changed alot of people's life's without the ask of anything in return, take the young gentleman who started his own repair business and channel, all because you shared your knowledge and experience. Even in your pain and sacrifice, you made a bigger difference than you will ever know.
I know how you feel regarding the resentment and wondering what might have been. I've spent the last four years of my life, and I have a few more to go, dealing with felony criminal charges. And hey, that's what I get for having committed crimes. But the worst part is that at the time I was charged, I had already turned my life around. Sought therapy. Had a good job. Wanted to use my life experiences to help people who were in bad situations like mine. I was on a good path. I had dreams, and purpose, and a plan for the future. And only after I got to that point did the police show up at my work one day with a warrant for my arrest. Life has a cruel sense of timing, sometimes. It's going to take years just to get back to where I was, and I feel like I can't even start that process of reparation because I'm still under restrictions by the court that limit my ability to do so. I know my situation is different from yours. These are just the foreseeable consequences of my own actions, catching up to me. But I still wonder what I might have accomplished; how many people I might have helped if I'd just been free to do so. And I resent the court for preventing me from doing that every time I've tried. It's like they don't want me to succeed. They just want me to suffer. The only solace I have is that one day this will all be over, and I can finally get back to work. And maybe when I have the freedom to do something constructive again, it will abate some of this resentment. I hope so.
The Maine thing sounds like they just wanted to stack up fees or something. Why would they send those letters to freaking Maine? Illinois use to do that stuff to my family so they could collect the maximum amount from you. Even two years later after we moved to Texas my sister owed $600 to the state, thats after they told here she was owed $100.
I find it indeed unlikely that the mail went to a completely unrelated address (neither business, nor personal, nor relatives' house, nor former address... not even former address of a cousin five times removed)... and a P.O.-Box no less. And all that while the regular correspondence was done via the actual business address. Even an understaffed, underpaid and overworked shithole doesn't make such a "mistake". This requires actual malice.
On a positive note, now that you have this solved and not in a state that treats you like garbage you might actually get to see those "what ifs" come to fruition. And everyone here will cheer you along the way.
I understand Louis. The average person has no idea. He has been targeted tax wise, with restrictions on what he can sell and do non stop, as well as countless other issues all from government buerocrazy. The average person doesn't know the hell government imposes on businesses starting to thrive. You eventually get to a point where government can go F themselves, because what you see is the active criminal activity that happens there, and the non stop fighting you have to do to keep them off your back, so you can work. If people can't see that through cov1d, they need a brain check. Even then, they impose more and more restrictions in an attempt to keep you down. The system is setup for slavery. The average guy, doesn't get out of the slave system without fighting for their fcukng lives... and the worst part is they fight the slaves on the way out as well since they are all trying to keep people working on the way up... down.
Your my FKN hero! I'm so bummed that NYC is like this and I can't even imagine the amount of lives that are being absolutely destroyed by the idiocy that rules this state (country). You're the kinda person i'd wanna work with and work for. Know that! you're a goddamn force to be reckoned with. Thank you for doing these videos!

Hopefully this move can help you get back in the groove. ( Rhyme not intended)

@@ptrkmr what's upstate and downstate?

If this appears on any credit reports (there are a bunch of credit agencies that could have this beyond the big three) you can potentially bring suit under the FCRA (Fair Credit Reporting Act).
Could by my name, my area, my business, the banker's feelings on that day, there's just no way of knowing.
You should learn that government is incompetent and that more government just means more incompetence. Bigger government makes everything worse.
@@crissd8283 There's patterns to the incompetence. A big group of well-educated, intelligent, responsible people can support a relatively big, competent government. But when the people are uneducated, unintelligent, apathetic, ignorant, or incapable then their government is likewise incompetent no matter how small it is. You can go to hundreds of small, corrupt countries in the world with incompetent governments. The government isn't too big, it just has no accountability. Without morality and accountability there can be no competence, the vast majority of people HAVE to care or the whole thing collapses.

System isn’t fair, lawyer won’t change much
It's hard to proof damages on loans that are not approved since banks might not even have the records anymore
You were the influence I needed to repair my own laptops and phones. Yes, if they would not fuck you up as hard as they did, you'd be better up. But you still made far more good than 99.9% of other influencers
Don't let them demoralize you Louis. These things happen in our lives and seem so consequential but really work out in the end. I know this sounds cliché. But the "what if?" game will eat at you if you let it. Especially when it comes to things like relationships ending. I've been watching you a while and seeing you stand up for what you believe in is inspiring. Systems like NYC are meant to grind you down but you've escaped, cleared your name and you're ready for the next phase of the adventure called Life. Your whole future is in front of you.
Hi Louis. This video made me livid, and it didn't even happen to me. I can't even imagine how angry you must be. But it also leaves me all the more impressed with what you have achieved in spite of all the obstacles you've been saddled with! Mad props! I hope you regain the joy of your work again; few people deserve it more than you. If you can focus on all the achievements you've racked up just long enough to kickstart that joy again, you'll be all set.
I understand you. I felt something similar when I discovered for years why I was rejected in my Ph.D. applications when I lived in Poland. How "ultra-smart" (not at all) people were accepted in several programs and were never given a chance. I had to change my path to be who I'm. I don't necessarily dislike my journey, but I still miss that part of my journey that I haven't been able to close. Good luck in your new stage Louis and keep doing the great job that you have inspired many of us.
I'm grateful for this channel. It has made me feel less alone with my experiences owning a business. Most of youtube is filled with polished businesses and often make me feel like a POS. This channel has always kept it real.
I'm not proud of the fact I've drank away a problem or two listening to Rossmanns real issues.
I hope you find happiness/fun in whatever you do.
" all over again" no thanks
@@graywolf2694 or give up and just be sad always idk
what else can ya do?
Imagine he had gotten the loans and expanded there in New York. He'd be dealing with many times the fines and BS.
@@gblargg Hey, that's a really great point! Maybe this was a blessing in disguise?
What runs through my mind is how many others has this happened to?
Hi Louis, longtime viewer here~
First of all, I wanna share my condolences for this whole situation… I’ve repeatedly tuned in to your channel, seeing how New York bureaucracy shenanigans were messing with you and your business.
I appreciate your honesty and vulnerability here. It’s refreshing

We might be small, unheard voices, but the influence is real.
The moral is "be better at your jobs people - do it right because otherwise one day it might be you on the wrong end of shit like this."
(as an FYI I'm self employed, the buck stops with me, if I fuck it up, I pay the price.)

You're a very intelligent man. I would work and do business with you as long as the conditions were right.
Hate to break it to you but finding out who is behind that Maine P.O Box seems kind of important. Hire a PI & see what turns up.

thanks for sharing, many of us has similar and worse stories.

Not only that, he should sue for damages due to them sabotaging his career and possible loans.

Pettiness is healthy sometimes.
Can we crowdfund him a move to Texas. Sue the state of NY.
Oh my goodness of course it’s worth watching. But I get it. I hear what you’re saying. There’s information here that is valuable.
Find a lawyer, make a deal with him if he wins the shit he gets half, sue them for all the moneys
It's amazing how New York city can suck the life out of absolutely anything.
I hope so.
HI BLACKBERRY! Good job being there for your dad when he’s stressed out! 💜
