Growing up on the North Fork of Long Island , NY , the older locals would sew jingle shells to fish netting , for summer curtains , As the breeze blew through , the shells were tossed together and JINGLED ...a very nostalgic summer sound ! Thanks for bringing us along !

Yes, I'm not a fan of walking through that lagoon either! That was only I think the second time I've done it. The first time lighting was coming and this time I did want to shave a few minutes off my walk. I'm glad the point (end) of the island was seaweed free so I could find some treasures. I went on my first shelling trip to 10k islands about 3 weeks ago on my way to Key West. It was amazing and overwhelming. I found over 50 Florida Fighting Conchs. After spending a week in Key West, I wanted to go to Tigertail Beach and do a little more shelling on Marco Island before heading home to Georgia. Unfortunately, it was a washout and headed up to Sarasota to stay with a friend before heading home. She landscaped her home and around her pool with beautiful old shells. I enjoyed watching this video...I will make it to TTB one of these days.
I love that you keep track of the garbage that you take off the beach. It would be interesting to see how many pounds of Shells you take off the beach and just one adventure.

I hope you survived tropical storm Debbie. And I know you will be out early to find the treasures that was washed up on the beach. I like the jingles. I like all the layers on them. And the range of colours too. That was a very nice walk, shame about all the seaweed. We always know when the tides out by the smell of the seaweed left on the beach…stinky! Hugs and stay safe xx

The only shells I was able to find was a few tinies up on a high wrack line. I wish sometime you would point out the differences between a ribbed cantharus, a drill and a horse conch. They look so similar I would like to know how to tell them apart. Thanks!
Love those jingles and coquinas. So cute. And that Lightening welk. Woo hoo. Those prickly cockles have some great colors. did you pick up the sand dollar by the lightening welk? lol. How do you tell the calico scallop and rough scallop apart outside of color?
The rough scallops have different "wings" on the bottom of the shell, and they have a slightly different shape than the calico scallops. The calico scallops are very round where the rough scallops are a little more oblong.
That was fun!! One time in Sanibel they had rotting Sargassum and the smell was awful. That was not the same right? Just seaweed? Well you had some good finds! I hope the weather is still ok there! Have a wonderful week and see you Sunday. XOXO
We had some of the sargassum seaweed on Sanibel not too long ago but it wasn't rotting so it didn't smell too bad quite yet. We normally don't really have seaweed problems over here so it was a bit unusual for me to battle it over on Tigertail.
