I grew up in Tujunga (1956-1978)it was a world of difference to what it has become. It was a quaint small community, I didn't appreciate it at the time, but hate what it has become.. So sad😢

It’s still a descent place to raise a family. It’s not so bad I have lived there for 22 years. Except for the irresponsible driving on Foothill blvd and the a few homeless in the area it’s not so bad. Sorry to hear you hate it now.

I lived there 1970 to 1972. Rented a 1 bedroom bungalow for $220 a month.. Surprisingly one of the few places that actually looks better than 1960s and 70's.I retired to Panama in 2013, lived in Ecuador, Nicaragua as well, Costa Rica the last 4 years rentting a 7 bedroom/5 bath house with 4 car garage on 23 acres for $161. I attended my senior year and graduated from Verdugo Hills.

Sunland-Tujunga is not unknown for visitors. It's one of the new capitals of hipster hipness. Also, there can be no doubt that the Sunland-Tujunga Fashion Week is on course to eclipse Milan Fashion Week in due time. Well, maybe in 10,000 years. But on course.

I love here now. The high school you passed in the beginning is Verdugo HS. My daughters both graduated from there. It is too busy now. Don't bother moving here. I like it, but there's too many people here.

Pinewood AND Mt Gleason looks very much the same. The lower playground had some mobile classroom and last time I drove by there.
My Grandmother event went to Pinewood when the bungalows on Silverton were the only classrooms.

I live in Tujunga. Did you ever see pictures of your hold house? You can try Google maps if you haven't already. Looks like a cute little house. It's sandwiched between a couple more modern looking homes. Tujunga is a hodgepodge of old and new. It's very unique in that way. One of the oldest homes is in Sunland from the 1880's I believe.

I respectfully agree with you. I would never leave Phoenix to go back to Tujunga,
Tujunga was a gem for sure up to the 1990s, It was still affordable back then. You Bought your first house in Tujunga and your Second in either Shadow Hills or LaCrescenta. Now you really have to have some serious money to do LaCrescenta, Burbank or ShadowHills right. 7 figures serious

I grew up in Tujunga in the 1970s and 80s. My family were in the area since the 1920s.
It was a better place than people gave it credit for. Back in the day it was really affordable.
It was a very working/middle class town when I lived there. Even then you had your more affluent areas like Seven Hills, Alpine Village, and the hills above the Verdugo Golf Cource.
It like most of LA got over priced and not such a good value it was up till the 1990s.
Yes the air and the smog was always better than the rest of LA and it was one of those places a lot of people had never heard of.
In some ways Tujunga got more Sophisticated and in some ways kinda went down hill. Back in the day you had like 4 new car dealerships, More Supermarkets and that kind of thing,
Yeah you had the Motorcycle Clubs, and some gangs but in some ways Id say it was better back pre 2000.

It used to be a sanctuary from the rest of LA now it's an armpit with all the people coming there it was really nice 36 years ago Tujunga means clean air they had sanitariums there for the epidemic TB then it became a retirement and biker community I remember Saturday mornings going to the gym quite hardly any cars now nothing like that now and sirens and helicopters like 27th and Normandy people there now really don't know the history

    • @mjwbulich

Completely wrong. It's so much nicer than it was 30 years ago. The 80s and 90s were a horrible time for Tujunga. Tons of meth, high crime, gangs, run down houses. It's really turned around in the last ten or fifteen years. People are building new homes or renovating old ones. All the dirtbags and tweakers got priced out. It's a nice safe working class neighborhood.
