How does one console their companion who's depressed?
They keep venting to me about their feelings and how they're bullied by seniors and friends in boarding school. I've never experienced depression. I'm scared if I misunderstand them, or if I say something wrong.
How do I advise them to keep having faith?

Im having a hard time. I have social workers coming for me because there was violence iny home. My families culture is to beat up children (wich I find wrong) and it had gone for years with severe beating and sometime lighter beating or slapping. If I tell the social workers the truth that there was violence in the house then they will bring in a place of parentless people and my mom will go to jail them my father will not be there anymore and then I probably be separated with most of my siblings. So is it haram if I lie?

Offcourse people don't say something wrong. But this is how innovations start. If it was from sunnah he would have mentioned a hadeeth. If it's not from sunnah why invoke Allah in a new way, we are provided with the methods prophet Muhammad s.a.w used ,then why something other than namaz and quran
