I have a 2015 with 50k. I worried about reliability but I've been driving it since December 2015 so I was obviously one of the first to purchase one, and almost 6 years later I've had no issues. I have the 1.4 Turbo Sport, with the manual transmission, which I think is the only way to go. Unfortunately they don't offer a manual any longer. All of the online reviews i watched back in 2015 bad mouthed the automatic, and I've driven manuals forever anyway, so glad I steered clear of that 9 speed. I do hate paying for the higher octane level of gas but this little turbo has lots of pep, and believe it or not I AVERAGE 30mpg. If I replaced it today, I doubt I would go with another Renegade, but so far it's been a great little vehicle.

I have a 2015 Jeep renegade trailhawk still going. Had to replace tires, battery, got the coolant fluid changed out. I change the oil every 3,000 miles. I want to buy a Chevy bolt now. I’m still trying to decide about the bolt. I wanna go full EV now.
I work around used 15-16s a lot and they start to fall apart around 70-80k miles. I don’t know the history of them though, so maybe you’ll have better luck if you follow proper maintenance. I feel like the people buying these usually have bad credit and can’t get approved elsewhere so they end up with high payments and no money left for maintenance.
Amazing, I don't see one positive, or even neutral, comment towards this car. So I might as well add my two cents. This is the car you buy when you are turned down at the Nissan dealership
I test drove one of these back in the fall of 2019, looking to upgrade from my base model Kia Soul. Jesus Christ I don't see how anyone could buy one of these - the engine was extremely underwhelming and that 9spd is literally the worst transmission ever put in a car. The transmission was constantly shifting, always trying to find the right gear to be in regardless if I were modulating the throttle, braking, or drove 100% smooth & steady. I'd much rather drive a Nissan with that god awful Xtronic CVT than this, don't even think about buying this car.
My work had a Renegade in back in 2018 and the person that returned it was complaining it wasn't shifting right. Took it for a drive on the highway and the transmission was on its last legs. Car only had like 20k miles. Nissan's CVTs which is the same Subaru uses have come a long way since they first came out. Our 2012 Quest went 150k miles hauling heavy loads before trading it in and still ran like new. FCA is garbage and always has been.
The declining sales is the spreading of the Jeep FCA horrendously unreliable reputation. This Italian built "Jeep" is a Jeep in name alone. It's fully an Italian built Fiat. Thanks for the upload!
The Renegade isn’t based on the 500x. They were developed at the same time. The basic platform and engines are European, but the suspension, steering, AWD, HVAC and UConnect on both are from Jeep developers.
And it was designed by American team, not by Italians, lol...Fiat never designs for American market, what sense that would make they have no experience in that... it shares platform pieces which or non-essential to focus of the vehicle, steering column AC boxes, things like that, to be completely honest it also shares wheelbase, in order to save on a platform sharing they need to do as much as they can, but off-road components suspension components steering entire electrical system is specific to Renegade
Well, actually, Honda has the best awd in their biggest vehicles sh-awd(ivtm4), but Renegade is the only in this small segment with center locker and crawl ratio...they lift them 2 inch, add bit bigger tires and crawl with them over small rocks. It's on YT if people would take second from senseless bashing and check it out
I like it, not quite a Wrangler but for someone like me that's fine since I wouldn't need something so hardcore to traverse the parking lots or the highways lol.
Many years back? They came out in 2016... I've had 2 500x's, both have been perfect. First was a 2016 Easy which I drove across the country and put 60,000 miles in 2 years, my current one is a 2018 Trekking Urbana which I've also taken cross country. Yes, the ZF 9 speed leaves a lot to be desired, but do regular maintenance and it will treat you well.
My dad bought one new in 2016 and it has 76k miles so far. 2.4L 9 speed. No problems. The transmission isnt the best, it searches for gears too long and can be a bit jerky but has been solid so far. Being a car enthusiast I wasn't too happy with his choice but it's held up surprisingly well.
People don’t give FCA enough credit for the strides they’ve made in reliability. Dodge has been rated in the top ten most reliable brands according to Consumer Reports, who are notoriously hard on Chrysler. They still have a way to go of course, but they are steadily improving.
This is made for non US markets to buy. More gas efficient and easy to park. No way I’d take this thing into a jungle or mountain range however. But During a heavy rain or light snow storm in and out ofManhattan, Berlin, Tokyo or Milan? Sure ok.
Why would anyone in good consciousness get this SUV when it’s based on a Fiat which is obviously terrible in comparison to other brands for the same money?
Cause american believe that anything made by fiat is garbage, when they simply don’t know this brand. I wish they would have brought the diesel version with 170hp. If you take care of the cars, they will last. Probably is not a Toyota, but if you want something different they are a great option, better than a Chevy for sure
Piersandro Mannino in Europe the Renegade is one of the most reliable vehicle of its class. But the engines are different and often so are the transmission

I drove this car before, my only complaint (which is a big one) is it has no pickup. I remember having to completely put my foot down on the gas while on the highway to merge and switch lanes.
Saw a neighbor bought one and it kept sitting in his drive way. Asked him why weeks later and he said the transmission broke the first week and he's still waiting to get in for a fix due to limited dealer capacity...
I have a 2021 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk and I have no issues so far. It does what it suppose to do. I think this video and the comments are way too nit-picky. If you want a faster more refined vehicle then buy a sports car. My Trailhawk is very pleasing actually. Much better than my 2017 Jeep Compass Latitude that I had.
In the U.K the limited and the Track hawk come with a 2.0 litre diesel engine which gets around 40-45mpg with the 9 speed auto. This is the only review that has said the 9 speed box is poor...
If someone test drives a Jeep Renegade and still buys one then I just don't understand people or cars and probably both. EDIT: I thought it would be the only one thrashing this vehicle. Lol.

I tested one of these before the shutdown in my state and my opinion of this “renegade”. Oh my what can I say without needing to bleep? I had to bend down like Quasimodo to get into the cargo area. Front part felt ok. Overall I felt like I was riding in a refrigerator box on a wooden crawler. The Cherokee attitude I tested felt more firm in ride and more ease of maneuvering around a city bus in rush hour traffic. Calling this Jeep a renegade is like calling the Nissan calling their crossover a rogue and rogue sport. And yes I drive a rogue sport.
Don’t care how many times they re-design it it’s a pile of crap had the 2019 model and within six months the engine seized they said it was a oil leak and the car is now a lemon
I have always like these but damn $30+K, no thanks. I would rather take the upcoming 2.5ltr crosstrek or base forester. They might not be as off road worthy but plenty capable in some basic dirt trails and such or for camping, etc. For snow, the subies do just fine as I have owned several and always took them out in bad storms and they were always fun and capable, even with the CVT's, which are not my preference but they do their job just fine in MOST situations. Subaru's prices are definitely more enticing, if you stay with premium or base models. Bells and whistles, eh, just more stuff to go wrong down the line.
I don't know how ZF could build such horrible 9spd transmission when the ZF 8 speed is a superb transmission. I wish they would make a front wheel drive version of the ZF 8spd.. Even the old 6 spd Chrysler transmission is better than this 9 spd.
It might also have something to do with how Jeep has programmed the transmission - maybe to compensate for the lack of power from the engine. I have driven the ZF 9 speed in a Jaguar E-pace and it was just fine. Of course it had a more powerful engine with 250 hp so that might have something to do with it. No need to shift as much.
Mr MMJ Acura also use the ZF 9 speed and they have had issues with this transmission as well, even though they have programmed it better, it still has lots of flaws.
The ZF 9 speed is an excellent transmission, the problem is this is a copy of that which FCA has a license to manufacture from ZF and is made in Michigan, it’s a total pos due to typical FCA cost cutting.

Front looks somewhat like a Jimny.
I don’t like to hate on jeep but this thing is truly a money pit waiting to fall apart.
A heavily Jeepifyed FIAT 500X.
If they where Smart ( instead of cheap ) they will make it plug-in hybrid , or just hybrid to get better Milage
Lol.
The headlight is stolen from 2018+ Wrangler, not bad though.
I have a grand Cherokee, Cherokee, compass, Wrangler and a renegade. The renegade is in my top three
You have more money then brains then
Damn that’s a lot of depreciation for one household

can you review the fiat version the 2020 trekking plus or sport?
If this was a bit bigger and better engine it would be good.
Brace yourselves for the comments on FCA reliability from Scotty stooges

Soymilk will like it as long as he likes the touch screen infotainment system and if it has Apple Car Play and Android Auto. Nothing else matters.

@@kristians2704 I agree, he never actually says anything good about anything other that Toyota/Lexus, I left him long ago
Their needs to be a 2nd gen of the renegade
Wrong; the first Sub Compact SUV was the Juke.
That mpg is hilarious and it's criminal to call this a SUV 😂
Asking $60,000 for a fully loaded one is blasphemy
Is the Kona a suv ? HRV ?
Compared to a Nissan Rogue Sport, Honda H-RV, Chevy Trax, etc. this is actually pretty quick. It’s just a slow segment. But 35k sticker? 😬
Charli d Amelio driving this like 😎
I tested one of these before the shutdown in my state and my opinion of this “renegade”.
I need the name of that song that plays at the beginning, is for swing purposes
Would have liked more detail on the Kenwood audio, than just saying it sounded "aftermarkety".
That's what happens when the average Joe becomes an automotive journalist
You can tell pretty easily if a sound system is not OEM
Don’t care how many times they re-design it it’s a pile of crap had the 2019 model and within six months the engine seized they said it was a oil leak and the car is now a lemon
very good looking design though....

I'd buy the dam thing if I could get a 6spd manual transmission.
Prior to 2019 you can
That interior looks straight from 2007
No, that’s Infiniti, Nissan , Toyota , and Honda you’re speaking of.
Beautiful all new Fiat 500L.
Ummm...no. Not even in the same class genius.
Based on some of these comments I would say Fiat stands for Fix It Again Tony
I’m surprise it didn’t break down during your review
www.jeeprenegadeforum.com/members/jimlonz.11138/#latest-activity I’m surprised his didn’t break in 200,000 miles. How about do research and not on scotty kilmers RUclips. Sheep.
That moment when you want to thumbs down the video not because of the reviewer, but the trashy car.
What happen to the plug in hybrid they was suppose to launch this summer 2020. Seems Chrysler keep failing.
They’re launching it in Europe first
So pokey. Can't they give it some more power? Jeep forums full of folks that are trying to reprogram their transmissions on their own.

OK it's a trail hawk.

Hi im new to the channel you do great work on video if i ever get out of chevys that would be my choice i really like the looks of the renegade trailboss
Omg from one domestic to another? You like Chevy? Have you spent quality time driving the foreign manufacturers? Hyundai, Honda, Toyota, Mazda, Kia?
@@joshua9073 Not all foreign brands are good. I do like Hyundai, as I've owned 3. Honda, Toyota? Junk, and boring as anything. I've owned a Mazda, and right at 100k miles, the engine blew. I used to like Subaru, but until they fix the burning oil problem and get rid of that horrible CVT, I'll stay away.
@@joshua9073 Worst car I ever had was a Lexus ES300. Not all imports are good. My 99 Ford Explorer was great. I now have a JGC and not one problem in 3 year, granted it is on a MBZ platform and was designed when the parent company was MBZ. I love my JGC
I’m amazed they still use that transmission
